One tattooed arm on woman - message, or style?

Tanya968

I have seen at least two women lately with tattoos covering one shoulder top to the mid- lower arm. The ink is colorful, looks nice if you like that style.
We were wondering tho, is this type tattoo (top of one shoulder & all over upper arm, tapering off at lower arm) a fashion statement, a style that some people like, or is there another message they are giving?
Thanks for answers so far...just to clarify: I'm not saying this is a fashion trend, or needs to be a message - only that I haven't seen this type tatt on women b4. We are in warm climate, where sleevelss is common. The 2 women are diff ages (20's and ? late 30-ish), with no connection or similarity. The look is striking, that's for sure. As I said, just curious.

Answer
I love half and 3/4 sleeves for women, especially with lots of colour in it.
I would love to get one myself, but I don't because of professional reasons.

People get tattoos because they like them. There shouldn't always be a meaning behind the tattoo. I have 8 tattoos at this moment and only 5 of them have a meaning.

How does a tattoo on a woman's arm look "butch"...?

ToolGirl5-

I never got that,i have seen many arm tattoos on a women and never thought it looked manly..And why are places like the wrist, ankle, hip and the foot consider "feminine" spots...What's your opinion?

Btw i have 40 hours of work so far and have a full sleeve, planing on the other arm too...
But some people do think this, and i'm asking why..

Answer
I guess probably due to the size of a tattoo. Some females just have larger arms and larger pieces on them will make them look even larger. I find it really silly when I hear females talk about how large tattoos look manly. Every piece I have on my body is big and I still look feminine.

tattoo does it???????

Back to Ba

I am a female... and i would love to get a tattoo on my hand like a small butterfly...

Does it hurt???? how do u feel when its done....???

Answer
First of all you need to decide what you want doing and whereabouts on your hand you would like it. Make sure that you think about the design for quite some time before you decide to get it done. Also bear in mind that the hand is a very visible place and, unfortunately, people do judge others based on visible tattoo's (it can even prevent you from getting a job, although they will not tell you that this is the reason why!).
All tattoo's hurt, anyone who says otherwise is a liar or just trying to make themselves look 'big'. The pain variation is different for everyone and it can hurt more depending on where you get it on your body. I have not had one done on my hand but have a full back piece, a half sleeve in progress and one at the top of my leg - all of which have been painful but never excutiating. The sensation is like a cat scratch to start off with and then after a while it feels like sunburn. It becomes more of an annoyance than anything else after so long because you get bored of just sitting there but, as long as it is done correctly by an experienced professional, then the end result is more than worth it. If you are just after a small butterfly on your hand, depending on the size, it shouldn't take too long. When it is done you just need to follow your tattoo artist's instruction on aftercare to ensure that you do not damage your tattoo.
Make sure that you do plenty of research on different artists, get recommendations and whoever has recommended you ask to see work that they have received from that artist so that you can see for yourself. Do not go for the cheap artists, good tattoo materials are not cheap therefore good quality tattoo's should not be cheap. Also make sure you go to someone with a waiting list rather than just a walk-in studio. This is normally a good indication that they have some credibility. Don't be afraid to ask any tattoo artist about their experience, how long they have been doing it, to look at their portfolio, where they received their training (most artists have been trained by other artists, there is no such thing as a tattoo course in college or uni). Any artist worth their salt will be more than happy to provide this information in order to put your mind at rest. Also ensure that you see them open up needles from sterile packaging when you get it done in order to ensure that they are not re-using needles.

Tattoo artist put EVIL CROSS INSTEAD OF GOOD ONE on my hand help!!!!!!?

Knhvbhh

Hello guys... I'm a 18 year old female and just recently got a 3rd tattoo at the shop. I told the artist to put a small cross on the side of my hand ...when it was all done it looked like he messed up....but maybe it meant something else .the bottom part of the cross is skinnier and longer and the top is wider with uneven sides , left is longer than right side and slightly slanded IS IT EVIL WHAT DOES IT MEAN PLEASE HELP!:/!!!!! I can't find or anywhere in google

Answer
What do you man by "evil" cross? There's no "evil" symbol that looks so similar to the Christian cross, the closest thing to a cross that actual Satanists use is the alchemical symbol for sulphur.

Hand tattoos are terrible to heal so it's likely that some of the lines have partially dropped out or blown out under the skin. This can easily happen before healing is even complete. If this is the case, you can go back and ask for a touch up. Most shops offer the first touch up for free, though some don't do free touch ups on hand tattoos because they're so hit and miss.

It's also possible that the artist did a bad job. If this is the case, I personally wouldn't go back to them. Find a different artist whose portfolio you're happy with and have them fix it for you. Please bear in mind that there's often very little that can be done for hand tattoos, and I would advise against a cover up (cover ups need to be bigger and darker than the original tattoo). Alternatively, you could get laser removal.

You will not be able to sue the artist or the shop if you signed a waiver (which you most likely did).

Rib cage tattoo on bigger woman?

MrsM7707

Ok i know this is gonna be a weird question, but it can make a difference. Im going to be getting a tattoo on my left rib cage, and i know with all tattoos they hurt, i have 3. My question is, if your a bigger woman will it hurt worse or less on the side? Ive heard people say that the more fat you have the less pain and visa versa. Im a thick girl, no not like 400lbs but im a little bigger than most, and am getting my tattoo soon. I just wanted to know. Thanks!

Answer
I'm about 5'7 and 160 pounds - not too fat, but certainly not skinny. Getting my ribs tattooed DEFINITELY hurt. I think it's just one of those tender areas that is going to hurt no matter what.

What is the sexiest tattoo a woman can get on her ribs?

Lexi

Answer
Obviously the answerers on yahoo answers are judgemental and crude... But to be fairly honest the ribs are very painful to get a tattoo placed (personal situation) but i think quotes or a verse that is meaningful is really nice. I had a mini poem on my side which signified on how we should take every chance we get. Just do something nice and beautiful and be sure to conquer the pain that you will endure! Goodluck

Chest tattoo on girls?

Ohhai

Okay, soon i'll be getting my first tattoo, it's a little peacock feather and i think it'd look amazing on my chest and yes i know it will hurt like f***! most probably but it'll be worth it :)

But my question is..
What do you think of tattoos on girls chests?
Even if its just a little one piece :)
Laura - My chest will be covered up quite a bit. I'm currently working with kids so i'll have to cover it up every day, cept weekends. I don't think it'll drive me crazy haha.
Plus! it's pretty tiny. It's not massive like all over my chest. I'm thinking of getting it near my collarbone/shoulder :]

Answer
Since it is your first, you have to consider that since it is on your chest, it is very visible. Take that into consideration. You and others will see it all the time. Make sure you are okay with this idea. If so, go for it! it will look great as long as it won't drive you crazy.

Praying hands with cross tattooed on girls chest?

youknowwho

Hey ya'll my grandpa died a week ago and he meant everything to me. He practically raised me so like another dad to me. He taught me a lot on life and what the true meaning to family was. I was wondering if i get a tattoo of Jesus praying hands with them holding a cross with a banner going around and having a saying in it on my chest. Would that be somewhere best to get it like close to your heart? if not where else should that tattoo be placed. I have 2 tats on my shoulder and my foot. I don't care if it hurts i could care less. The way i see it it's a needle and it's gonna hurt. If i sat threw a 2 hour tat on my foot then i could sit through anything.

Answer
Please choose another location for your tattoo.

A chest tattoo on a woman is a very, very bad idea. Try to think ahead and imagine how that will look sticking out of swimsuits, tops, a prom or wedding dress.

Your in intentions are good but please don't deface your chest with a tattoo, your grandpa wouldn't want that. Consider waiting until the one year anniversary to make a final decision.

Which quote is tattoo worthy?

L

"The sun is always going to rise up." Meaning: every day the sun rises up, so no matter what we have the light pushing us forward.
"Flux & Flow" Meaning: Flux usually gets associated big changes, like going from the highs to the lows in your life, back and forth.
Flow is generally going easily in a straight line. You straighten things up in your life and just go right through it - flow through to the end.
Flux and Flow mean you have periods of both in your life.
"Words can only be forgiven not forgotten."

Elaborating on an existing tattoo.... looking for ideas please!

I have a plain ankh tattoo on my chest which sits above my left breast and a couple of inches over from my breastbone. I have been wanting to do something else to it for a while now but I'm not sure what to do. I also have a problem with space because I have a tattoo on the front of my left shoulder and I don't want the ankh extension to look like a part of the shoulder tattoo.

I normally am a creative and somewhat artistic person but I'm coming up blank with ideas. I'd like the extension to be related to the ankh instead of something random that has no connection. Basically, I don't want the ankh surrounded by a generic swirly design. Please help! I'm stumped so any ideas would really be appreciated.

Answer
I found this image (temple symbol with other Egyptian symbols:

You could add an image on each side - power, life, stability:

You could put the winged scarab on the Ankh:

OH MY GOD! Tattoos and Actual Pubic Hair! Combined as Accessories! What do you think?

mankekineo

I took Tri rail to the Miami Metro and went all over Miami-South; and on the Metro I saw some of the sleaziest people!

Was the scum on cell phone screaming/speaking offensive? Yes, a bit. Or the nut talking to himself annoying? Yup-sure.

But, the girl, dragging what appeared to be her child in tow, shopping with her Mother in Riverside, a sort of outdoor Mall on Biscayne Bay, took the Prize.

The Prize For Most Disturbing Accessories.

Was the cut of her midriff too high,or, the low rider, skin tight jeans way too low- yes. Was the fake "jewel" and dangling red glass teardrop in her belly-button provocative-uh huh.

However, the tattoo, over what must have been her Fallopian Tubes, the very top of which was cunningly revealed over of her low riders, lending a very curious "PUBIC" look-oh yes; until one noticed the line of black hair running up to her be-jeweled belly-button:

OH MY GOD! Tattoos and Actual Pubic Hair! Combined as Accessories!

Scary- What do you think?

Answer
Yeah! Sounds pretty scary too me. It seems that the low ride jeans are in vogue right now and even women with fat bellys wear them. I have trouble finding regular jeans. I don't think my round little tummy looks attractive in them, but maybe I am wrong considering that "everyone" else is wearing them! LOL!

What do you think of koi fish tattoos on girls?

Delle

Answer
It depends on where you have them. Tattoos on girls can look either trashy or sexy. It depends where you have them and what you have. I've seen some amazing koi tattoos, but I prefer dragons/ serpants on girls!
Actually the sexiest tattoo on a girl I have ever seen in my life was a girl who had the old "Death Before Dishonor" tattoo on shoulder blade, christ on a bike she was sex on legs!! (look up death before dishonor - the original one) Damn, I just looked and it seems everyone has the thing now... Stick to the Koi or go with a dragon!

Don't worry, it is a classic in the Japanese tattoo tradition. Any Japanese tattoo style artist can do it. The only problem is there aren't any in Wisconsin. If you can travel, email me and I will recommend one.

Would a tattoo on a woman's inner forearm look manly?

Answer
I have a tattoo on my inner forearm, somewhat identical to Cher lloyds tattoo.
http://img.metro.co.uk/i/pix/2011/05/07/article-1304762224312-0BF1EF7500000578-820237_466x675.jpg - THIS ONE :)

I was scared it looked a little manly, but however i get compliments on it all the time.

It you like it, go for it! No ones to judge whether somethings "manly" or not, its totally up to you!

New tattoo idea...what do you think?

Kitty

I just got my first tattoo (on my back) of a certain type of flower that is meaningful to me. I had the idea to add to it with other flowers that would also be meaningful (such as heritage, etc). However, if they are all somehow connected, would this look strange? Because obviously different kinds of flowers are not going to be growing out of the same plant, but could they still all be connected? I saw one that is kind of what I was going for here:
http://www.photofunblog.com/fashion/sensual-and-beautiful-back-tattoos-for-girls/attachment/awesome-flower-back-tattoo-design-for-women-2011/
Not the best example. I don't know if I should even care, because it's what I like, but I just thought I'd get some feedback before I plan more. Thanks everyone!!!!

What is the key to attracting women?

Q. I'm 17 and I've never had a girlfriend before. It seems like every time I like a girl I'm always guessing if she likes me back or not, and it ends up being no. I don't lack self confidence and even though I'm not amazingly handsome I wouldn't say I'm ugly. Even though I'm not a life-of-the-party kind of guy, I can still keep a conversation interesting and make a girl laugh. I play in a band and I thought girls are supposed to like musicians? What gives? Is it because I have long hair and listen to metal? Is that a turn off to girls?

Answer
The key to attracting women, and I'm completely, serious when I say this, is....confidence. If you don't have it, then fake it. Really girls could sense when guys are feeling awkward or are being too nice or too needy. You have to act confident and masculine, meaning you take control...and you could learn to take control in small steps. Like smiling at a girl that you see and find pretty....many guys find this extremely hot, so learning to do this takes major guts. Also going up to a girl and telling her that she's pretty. Asking questions about her and making her laugh.

Looks hardly matter...you don't need muscles, a stubble, tattoos or skinny jeans. You just need to act like you know you look good and do not have any problem on what anyone else thinks of you.
Ever seen girls dating these really obnoxious guys or weird looking guys and wonder, wtf does she see in him? Well, that my friend is confidence. And you need it. But don't worry...you'll learn to develop it as you get more practice talking to girls...so get to it!

Will pregnancy distort a rib tattoo?

Supa Dupa

I'm thinking of getting a tattoo on my ribs but I'm afraid it will become distorted. Has anyone been pregnant with a rib tattoo?

Please, only replies from either tattoo artists or women who were/are pregnant with a rib tattoo.

Thanks!

Answer
I am not a tattoo artist nor have I ever been pregnant. However, I have known multiple ladies who had babies with tattoos there and here is what I observed from their experiences:

You should expect some distortion if you have a tattoo on your ribs and you get preggers. That way if it gets distorted you won't be dissapointed and if it doesn't you will be happily surprised!

The key seems to be taking really really good care of it before, during and after pregnancy, moisturizing it like a fiend multiple times a day. If you are nicely moisturized before, after and during the time your skin will be stretching out it is more likely to return to looking normal once all is said and done.

However, if you are very concerned about it, better not to chance it and just get your tattoo in a different spot, or get it higher up on your side.

Examples of Cultural Practices, or Objects?

Q. I need some examples of these for an anthropology paper I'm helping my mom to complete. We have a few ideas, but we want some more choices, in case we can't find enough research material for ours. Here's what we got so far:

Cultural practices
1) Indian Suttee
2) Chinese foot binding
3) Native American Sweat outs

Cultural Objects:
1)Didgeridoo (that wind instrument from Australia)
2) Totem poles

Any other practice or object you can think of, along with what group it belongs to would be great. It can be well known or obscure, doesn't really matter. Thanks YA!!

Answer
Living cultures only, or from extinct societies as well?

I'm including on this list things that originate only as symbols, but are or were made into objects frequently, when the objects were/are meant to convey meaning.

Egypt: the ankh
India: the mandala
Japan: Mount Fuji (Fuji-san)
China (and elsewhere): yin and yang
Europe (and elsewhere): the Christian cross
20th-century Germany: the swastika
India, other parts of Asia, and elsewhere: the swastika (both clockwise and counter-clockwise configurations)
Pre-21st-century Roman Catholics: not eating meat on Fridays
Many parts of Africa: circumcision (of both males and females; and in some places done to children, in other places, to adults)
Europe, North and South America, many other places: tattooing
Europe: good-luck horseshoes
Ancient Mayans, and other Central Americans: ear-spools
Ancient Greece, and Europe into modern times: the symbols for male and female
Ancient Greece, ancient Rome: the signs of the zodiac
Africa, and many other tribal cultures: the sending of young men into the wilderness as a coming-of-age rite. The rules about their length of time, how much contact with humans they may have, and the conditions they need to meet in order to return, vary widely. I believe the Zulus in southern Africa have some of the best-documented customs re: coming-of-age journeys.
English-derived cultures: for weddings/brides, "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue."
There is a tribe/cultural group somewhere in Asia, I think, where the young men are required to climb to the top of a tall, specially-built tower, tie vine ropes around their ankles, and jump off, as their coming-of-age ceremony.
Europe and North America: making New Year's resolutions.
Scotland: preparing for a tall, dark stranger to be the first to cross a family's threshold on New Year's Day.
Europe: putting a cut tree (usually an evergreen) into the top-most window of a building when it has finally been built up to its final height -- not necessarily when the building is finished, only when it will get no taller.
Africa: Zulu high-jumping dancers
New Zealand: Maori haka dancers (the haka is a war dance, and is only to be danced by men. Used nowadays to start team sports games)
Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Belgium: building nesting platforms on the rooves of house, to encourage mated storks to build their nests there.
Germany: choosing a (live) Christmas tree to cut down *only* if it has a bird's nest in it (abandoned from the summer)
Native Americans: women who were menstruating going to a special "women's house" or "women's compound," and staying there for the duration, with limited or no contact with their families or the rest of the tribe.
Europe: the breaking of a poultry-fowl's wish-bone at or after dinner
South Seas island cultures: men going naked, except for penis sheaths (various materials, depending on which culture)
Australia: Aboriginal rock paintings and rock carvings, esp those depicting Dreamtime stories and spirit lore
Australia: Aboriginal places set aside exclusively for "secret men's business" and "secret women's business"
Medieval and Renaissance Europe: extremely elaborate salt-cellars, set on the dining table as symbols of wealth and status (especially the "nefs," salt-cellars shaped like ships in full sail; and the salt-cellars carved out of solid rock-crystal)
Western societies: three golden balls, indicating a pawn-broker's shop
Western societies: the red-and-white, spiral-striped barber's pole
From Europe, but now world-wide: the caduceus, indicating a doctor
India: "death houses" for those in the last stages of dying, and their families
Pre 21st-century Western societies: the red cross painted on first-aid kits
Western societies: Christmas trees, even for non-Christians

Where is it in Africa that certain groups pierce holes in the lower lip, and insert plates?

Look up any sort of ceremony you can think of, and there will be objects and activities associated with them. That includes (you may have noticed on my list :-D ) our own. Standard occasions for ceremonies include all of the changes in life circumstances: birth, naming, dying, death, weddings and marriage, coming-of-age (to adulthood), change-of-name on becoming an adult in some societies, committing a crime, punishing a crime, moving into a new house, building a new building, parenthood, menopause for women, illness, funerals/wakes and burials, etc. There are also practices and objects associated with everyday things: all sorts of good-luck charms and rituals, necessities-that-aren't connected with eating, things to do if you break something, cozy rituals for "apologizing to the universe" if you say something you shouldn't, or the like, and so on. "Step on a crack, you'll break your mother's back," etc.

Help with tattoo quote.. something along the lines of.. "live free, dream endlessly, regret nothing" but more

Answer
Tattoos are empowering and they make a unique medium of expression. But when you choose words over a design, a tattoo becomes much more than a form of body art. There are different languages used to put words into practice so that they are understood by people all over the world. Which is why, you can get any phrase inked on your body. There have also been many great men and women who have said and quoted a number of words which can be used as tattoo quotes on life and love. May it be for memory, identity, or just for style, these quotes for tattoos can be your pick if you want to get a simple yet attractive tattoo.

Answer
I would be mad about the name thing. If he has more than a couple tattoos, then what is one more going to hurt? It is the name of his son! I understand some people only get tattoos in memory of the deceased, but you say he has more. So yeah I would talk to him about it and see why he wont get his sons name. Whether they share a name or not. I am not sure about getting a tattoo while pregnant. I would wait though. Only because your immune system is weaker when you are pregnant, and you could develop an infection easier. I am going to wait until my son is born, and once I lose weight, I am getting his name tattoo'd some where on me. (:

Men, where is the best tattoo?

Where do you think is the sexiest place for a women to get a tattoo (Apart from any genital area! hehe)
Or do you not like tattoos on women?
I have 2 tattoos. I'm not asking for myself, I'm just asking out of curiousity!

Answer
Well, it's your Tattoo, I wouldn't worry about if anyone else likes it on you or not. As for the sexiest place, as a woman I would go with the lower back or right below the navel. Roses and other flower vines look good right below the navel, extending out to the hip bones.

rib tattoo experiences?

Amber

im going to get a tattoo on my rib cage right on my bra line. I know pain is subjective to the individual but im wanting to hear other peoples experiences. The one i am getting is a quote based off of a biblical quote, and i want it in a script font.

What are your experiences, how much pain 1-10 , care and after care, should i be prepared to go braless for a few days?

Answer
I answer these questions related to pain in the same way every time.

The pain in different places differs from person to person, pain threshold does have a lot of input but, for example, my chest tattoo didn't hurt at all, where as some people I know said their chest tattoo hurt a lot!

Anyway, here's a basic pain level chart I always reffer people to.

Pain level 1
These include the upper arm, forearm, calf, Bum, and Thigh. For a 1st tattoo these are great points to begin your inked journey.

Pain level 2
These include the centre back, front / side of thighs and shoulders. This is also not too bad a start for your first tattoo. The shoulders and central back region can be area that require quite a lot of movement. The skin on these areas is much looser meaning it takes longer to tattoo and also longer to heal. On areas that have lots of movement such as these, require more care once a tattoo is completed. Due to the thigh area being quite a dense muscle mass and also quite tight skin, it may tend to bruise the day after.

Pain level 3
These include the knees, elbows, hands, head, neck, feet, chest and back of thighs. Beginners beware of starting at these areas. You would need to be determined to have tattoos here as the high sensitivity would require a lot of mental focus to get you through. The poor quality of skin on both the knees and elbows will result in a very slow tattoo process and nerves are very close to the surface in these areas. This could result in the tattooing being unbearable for any length of time for some people. As with the orange areas these tend to be high movement areas and will require a longer healing timescale. You may find that to achieve a good solid colour, you may have to repeat the tattoo process on these areas. As a side note the chest area on men can be much more sensitive to pain than a woman, yet due to the tighter skin on a male, the tattoo can be completed quicker.

Pain level 4 (OWCHIE!)
Areas include hips, ribcage, stomach, back of knees, armpit, inside of elbow, nipples, lips, inside of thighs and genitals. Are you really sure you want to get that tattoo? As these areas can elicit crying, half finished tattoos or even the customer passing out. This could just be more than you may be able to handle. All of these purple areas are considered by most to be the most painful areas to be tattooed. The stretchy or thin skin over bone are slow to tattoo, some of these may require multiple sessions to achieve solid colour and smooth shading. Healing can be just as painful as receiving the tattoo and may require a few days off from your regular activities.

SOME USEFUL TIPS WHEN GETTING A TATTOO:

â¢Women are your more sensitive the week prior to and during your cycle. Plan around those dates to have the best experience possible when getting your tattoo.
â¢Use lotion everyday on the area to be tattooed at least 1 week prior for healthier skin and better results.
â¢Do not go out in the sun at least one week prior to being tattooed (including tanning beds) This drys the skin and if peeling occurs could damage the tattoo.
â¢Consider what you will wear for 2 weeks while healing if your tattoo is in an area like the foot, waist, shoulders or chest. Shoes, waistbands, belts, underwear, and bras can all damage tattoos if you do not plan ahead. Find comfortable clothing that will not touch or rub during this time.
â¢Always eat a good meal before being tattooed and drink plenty of fluids.
â¢Be sure to get a good nights rest before your appointment.
â¢Ask what kind of aftercare products you will need when you set up to get your tattoo.
â¢Mention any allergies you may have, pigments, dyes, perfumes.
â¢Some medication may thin your blood, check with your doctor before being tattooed.
â¢Anyone with an autoimmune disorder needs to check with their doctor and should bring a note to be tattooed.

Help! I am getting my first tattoo tomorrow?

Ceara

So I am getting my first tattoo tomorrow, its of a dove on my left wrist. It's gonna be almost two inches long. I have been to the tattoo shop 2 times. First time was to just check it out and I liked what I saw so I made the appointment. BUT it being my first time even being in a tattoo shop I didn't ask the right questions. The woman at the front desk, I assumed was a tattoo artist and I thought she was gonna be the one to tattoo me because she kept saying "I" when referring to being available to make an appointment. And silly me, I didn't ask her to explain. I didn't ask the right questions about who is going to tattoo me. All we talked about was the tattoo I wanted and how much it will hurt. So she told me the next day SHE was available from 6-8 and if I wanted I could come in and get it done. So I made the appointment for 7 thinking she was going to be the one to do my tattoo (I wanted her too because I felt very comfortable with her) and she told me that if i decided to come a little before 7 that would be okay too. She tells me the tattoo will be somewhere between $100-115 and that I need to put a $80 deposit down. So I did and the next day I came in with my dad at 6, I had free time so I thought I would come in early and she did say I could come in early and they had nothing booked. So I walk in and I start talking to her (she was eating) and I asked if she would be available soon and I said sorry about being early. She tells me that the guy is just finishing up doing a tattoo and that he needs to clean up and eat so I'll have to wait about 45 minutes. Of course I was soo confused because I thought she was going to be doing it. She tells me the guy doing my tattoo is a guest artist and shows me his work. He's pretty good but I was still a little disappointed. I didn't want to wait around for 45 minutes and I was a little bummed out so I changed the appointment for tomorrow at 5. I asked her who will be doing it and she says the guest artist. I was disappointed but I just kept telling myself that his work is good so my tattoo will come out nice.

So I have a few questions. I know I should of asked her but stupid me I didn't.

1. Is the $80 deposit included with the price of the tattoo? or do I still have to pay the full price?
2. Is $100-115 a lot to spend on a small tattoo (an inch and a half long to 2 inches long?)
3. How much of a tip do I leave? 10%?
4. Are they over charging me? From what I read, most places don't ask you to put a 80 dollar deposit down and people have gotten small tattoos for as little as 40 dollars.

Answer
The deposit in every shop that I have seen gets factored into the price of the tattoo so depending on how much they end up charging in the end (whether it be the 100 or the 115) make sure you bring enough to cover the amount that goes above the initial $80. Keep in mind many states also will add on sales tax to the price at the end. Also, make sure you bring a bit extra, not only for the tip but also if the artist declares a different price. It can happen when there is an appointment set by someone other than the artist, he may not agree with the quote she gave you. If the tattoo takes about an hour or so to finish then I would say the price is par for the course based on the shops I've worked in both in Pittsburgh and Seattle, if it is under an hour then yes that sounds a bit high for something small on the wrist like that. Normally shops have a stated minimum as well which might have been good to find out while shopping around. Tipping is really an individual thing and based on how well stuff is done but it isn't that much different between that and tipping say a server in a restaurant. Tips range anywhere from 10% to 20 some odd percent depending on how you feel you were treated as a customer.

You are right, I haven't heard of many places doing an $80 deposit either, they are really in place to make sure the artist receives something for the slot or preparing the artwork if you do not show up and in the shops I worked in it was only about $20 to $50 depending on how much art needed to be done in advance.

It seems a little odd that the person at the counter would speak to you as if they would be doing the work, if they were simply working the counter they shouldn't have cared what time they specifically would have been in the next day unless that was their way of saying his time slot would be open then.

If you are uncomfortable with him doing your tattoo you may be able to get your deposit back and shop around for a different artist but that can be tricky as a lot of places don't allow refunds on the deposit and only apply it to the cost of your tattoo, but that varies from place to place and they may make exceptions.

Best of luck!

Do you think that moms with tattoos/piercings are trashy?

Just anoth

My mom and I tend to disagree on this. I have 3 young sons and a husband, but I also have 2 tattoos and am planning on getting 1 or 2 more. I am considering getting my tongue pierced but am probably too chicken to. Or my eyebrow done. My mother said that people think that parents with body art are trashy people. I don't think so. Either way, I know what I like and won't let someone opinion tell me otherwise. I'm just curious as to what other people think about it.

Answer
lol My situation is slightly different. I grew up with a VERY conservative mother. However, when she reached 45 years old, she got her first tattoo. A small butterfly by her thumb. She's now 55 and has over 20 tattoos and 13 piercings. She didn't realize how much she enjoyed the art of it until she got her first one. I can guarantee you that my mother is far from trashy. I don't deny the fact that some people don't like the way it looks, but my mother is still a wonderfully kind, polite, compassionate woman. Because of that, I've learned to never judge a book by their cover. A person can be COVERED in tattoos and/or piercings and we can make all kinds of assumptions on what kind of person they are or how they grew up, but its often times just not true.

I'm a mother of three and also have a couple tattoos and looking at getting more. My personal preference is to keep them out of sight though, so they are on my back rather than my arm or calf. I think its funny when a friend or coworker starts talking about, "Oh my goodness, did you see that woman with all the tattoos? She looks like trailer trash. Her poor kids are gonna grow up to be freaks too". Then I smile at them and tell them that I have a couple tattoos. They are always embarrassed. I most certainly don't look or act like what people stereotype as a "tattoo'd momma". Having tattoos has NOTHING to do with what kind of parent you are or how you behave. I'm not trashy, I'm not "wild", I'm not seeking attention.... I just like the art of my tattoos. They are beautiful and meaningful to me.

So good for you for doing what you want. Who cares if people think its trashy or inappropriate. Their opinions have no real weight on your everday life. Getting something like that done won't change what kind of mother, daughter, friend, wife and coworker you are.

First tattoo ideas for girls?

Lara

I've always wanted a small, discreet tattoo that has a great meaning behind it. I've been thinking of a rabbit tattoo, because my family calls me a rabbit, its our personal nickname for me. I'm 18 so I don't want to rush into it, I'll probably consider it for a couple more years. What are some cool, edgy tattoos? I want some really edgy ideas with a touch of feminity... and something I can easily hide. Can people suggest me good placements to get a tattoo, or cool designs or symbols with meaning behind it? I don't want fairies, stars, hearts, butterflies.. I want some original ideas that I can get inspiration from. Thanks! Oh and no disney or cartoon characters please.
I don't see anything wrong with tattoos with meanings behind them. Some people want to express something of symbolic importance that way and I personally think it's nice. So no rushed judgements or hasty words yeah? Thats fine if you don't like them, but if you don't like my question, why answer?

Answer
Ummmm...yeah.

First, you might consider that what you find cool or edgy now (at 18, in the year 2012) may be pretty foolish/silly/etc. just a few years down the road...let alone when you are 28, 38, 48, 58...etc.
Edgy or cool...these categories tend to be moving targets...or else it wouldn't BE "edgy", right? ;-)

The other thing you need to consider is not only placement in terms of "can I hide it"--you seem to be thinking enough about how you present yourself in the professional world, where tattoos tend to not be acceptable in terms of arm tattoos like Craig Ferguson, etc., so you are thinking well--but also in terms of HOW IS THE SKIN IN THIS AREA GOING TO CHANGE...? (Think: with age, with pregnancy, etc.)

A lot of "gosh, what a cute little tattoo"-type things along a bikini line might have turned into "OMG WTF _IS_ THAT?!" as someone has the skin stretch during pregnancy.

And your thinking about it is good--and while you are, please look at some old women with tattoos and realize that a clear, vibrant tattoo you get at 18, or 20/21 is probably going to fade, blur, etc. So simple and recognizable even with some blurring/fading might be smarter than some intricate thing which requires clarity and brightness in order to not look like a birth mark or a melanoma.

;-)

Guys, what do you think of quote/word/statement tattoos on girls?

ruby

I'm getting a tattoo that says "Remember Forever" on my wrist and I have read (not to mention I also have a non-supportive friend) people saying that guys don't like girls with those kinds of tattoos.

I'm really just curious, and am getting the tattoo no matter what is said.

Also, if you like quote tattoos on girls, what is the 'best' place for the tattoo to go?

Answer
Please don't be insulted, but let me tell you the real truth. Quotes or "wise sayings" tattooed on your body are pretentious and mark you as an insecure person who is desperate for the approval of others. But you are trying to be worthy the wrong way. You can not make yourself worthy in the eyes of others by inking a philosophical saying into your living skin. You can only make yourself worthy in the eyes of others through your words and deeds. Having yourself tattooed marks you as a troubled individual with a rocky future ahead, not as some inspirational person.
Donât be fooled when you see some celebrity or entertainer with a tattoo. They are probably just an insecure mess on their road to self destruction. Look at Brittney Spears, Anna Nicole Smith or Amy Winehouse.
Wise up. Life is not a game. What you see on TV and on music videos are fantasy--fantasy life filtered through the consciousness of writers, musicians and producers - creative types who come from a Hollywood subculture filled with degradation and self indulgence. What they "teach" us through their art must be viewed suspiciously.

The true cost of a tattoo is a lifetime of regret. There is an 80% chance you will regret it in your lifetime. Many people will look at you with disgust, for tattoos are offensive to many, many people. Don't get tattooed. You will regret it. Tattoos are associated with mental illness and dysfunction. Peer-reviewed scientific studies conclude that tattooed and pierced people share characteristics with the following extremely undesirable groups of suffering and damaged people:
pickers
burners
head bangers
self cutters
self-injurers
dangerous risk takers
eating disorders
self-haters
substance abuser
depressed
socially alienated
âIn 1999 The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry listed tattooing and 'excessive piercing' along with picking, burning, head-banging and cutting as forms of self-injury. In The Journal of Psychosomatic Research (2006, volume 6, issue 4), Adolescence (2002, volume 37, issue 147), The Journal of Adolescent Health (2005, volume 36, issue 4), Deviant Behavior (2009, volume 30, issue 6) and Pediatrics (2002, volume 109, issue 60), tattooing and body piercing are associated with dangerous and sometimes lethal risk-taking behavior, eating disorders, self-loathing, substance abuse, depression and social alienation.â
Which of these groups are you a member of? If none, then please rethink your intention to get tattooed. Why would you want to advertise yourself to others as one of these hurting groups? Even if you are, do not embrace your disease-- resist! Avoid hurting yourselfâdonât get any tattoo.
Here's more alone these lines:
Tattoos and Mental Disorders:
âResearch conducted by Dr. William Cardasis at the Michigan Centre For Forensic Psychiatry reviewed the cases of patients who were considered unfit to stand trial or who were judged to be insane and found that a majority had both signs of ASPD and a strong tendency to be tattooed. Along with a strong lack of emotions, histories of mental and physical abuse and deviant behaviors, Cardasis found that almost three-quarters of his study group was tattooed. The patients who had a greater number of tattoos, who had a greater percentage of their body surface tattooed and who wore tattoos in more visible places were all found to exhibit more aggression and to be engaging in behaviors such as cheating, lying or stealing.â
This research about tattoos and personality was recently published in the journal Personality and Mental Health.
"Our findings suggest that forensic psychiatric inpatients with tattoos are significantly more likely to suffer from antisocial personality disorder than those without tattoos, and patients with antisocial personality disorder were also significantly more likely to have higher numbers of tattoos, a larger percentage of their body covered with tattoos, and tended to have tattoos in more visible locations" said lead researcher Dr. William Cardasis.
Student with tattoos Less Successful that Non Tattooed Counterparts
âA study by Glasgow's Strathcylde University shows that that students with tattoos have weaker study skills than their non-inked counterparts.â
Study Links âBody Artâ and Criminal Behavior
LUBBOCK, Texas, January 14, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A new study titled "Body Art, Deviance, and American College Students" suggests that people who have multiple tattoos or body piercings are more likely to engage in risky and criminal behavior. The research by Jerome R. Koch, a sociology professor at Texas Tech University, reveals that those who have four or more tattoos, seven or more body piercings, or one "intimate piercing," are far more prone to use illegal drugs, be arrested for criminal offenses, cheat on college work, binge drink, and have multiple sex partners.

Does anyone know of eating disorder recovery tattoos?

Laura

I've been struggling with an eating disorder for two years. Every day is still a struggle, so I want to get a tattoo to remind me to keep moving forward. A lot of the girls at my outpatient center had recovery tattoos of the universal symbol for eating disorder recovery, but I can't remember what it looked like. Can anyone send me a picture of it?

Kat Von D, if she was a he, would you care? Tattoo?

Q. All I hear is "OMG SHES SO AMAZING"
If funny because they just drew a random shop name out of a hat for the original show, so actually those are AVERAGE grade artists and she just happened to be there and happened to be a "woman" with BOOBIES and therefor all these idiots saying "her art is so great!"
Theres so many male artists that have done so much better work and yet do they have nearly the fame she does?

Face it, shes an ok artist, shes not a 50 year old fat ex biker chick(the normal female tat artist) and shes halfway decent looking so half these people saying shes the best.

Come on really? Is she REALLY that good of an artist? Are you looking at her work or something else?

Sorry its like having a bunch of men working a car dealership and then throwing in a halfway decent woman, of course shes gonna sell more.
Shes cute, she has DECENT art but please gtfo her, its pathetic so many people say shes their favorite artist just because they dont know any other tat names?

Anyone else agree?
Feel free to rant at me, I know you are going to, must defend the boobs you will never ever touch.

Answer
Ugh, I hate that stupid show. It's catered to people that know absolutely nothing about tattoos and it's so stupid. I agree, there is nothing special about her, she just gets a bunch of attention because she is a semi-attractive girl tattoo artist and apparently that's just crazy in our society.

tattoo colors?

squuishee

i dunno what happened to my last questionbut here again... what do you think of very colorful tattoos and just grey and black on a girl? Also with very light complected skin tones.. thanks!

Answer
I love all tattoos. Color looks best on girls, period. I do love Kat Von D's black and grey scale tattoos as well. It's really up to the person getting tattoed if they want color or not. I've seen some pretty pasty white people and the bright, colorful tattoos on them stands out really well!

Do visible tattoos make women look less classy?

trendsette

Especially the ones on the neck. It seems some women go out of their way to look as cheesy as possible.

Answer
Yes, tattoos make a woman look trashy. You may find them cool and trendy when you are young but what becomes of the tattoo when the woman gets old and wrinkled. The tattoo becomes distorted as flesh sags and that is definitely trashy. Ask some of the biker chicks of the 50's and 60's and see what they say. Tattoos also are not good when you are seeking work. They do not look professional.

Women & Tattoos?

MedVixen

I personally am not a fan of woman & tattoos... most of the time I find them either tacky or trashy...

BUT, Lately I've been contemplating having my son's name tattooed ever so tiny on the back of my neck, right beneath my hairline... so it's not outwardly visible & even if I have my hair up, my ponytail will cover it.

I'm just afraid like with so many other things in my life, I'll eventually change my mind and not want it anymore.

Suggestions??

Answer
Come on, you know you want to. :)

Listen, a tattoo is a personal thing and only you can decide if it's worth it. The hairline sounds like a good spot if you want the ability to hide it. There is a new ink on the market that is designed to fade after a few years. There is also one that only needs one laser treatment to completely disappear. Do some research, those may be options for you.

Kyle

I love tattoos. I plan on being a tattoo artist!! It must be a honor having your art on someone's body!! I don't see why people see tattoos on women as "trashy". It is art!! I just don't understand why. It seems kind of sexist because most the time I here that coming from men.

Foot Tattoo???

*I <3 my P

I want to get my first tattoo on my foot.....i know its supposed to be realllllyyy painful!....i want to get a blue butterfly i already have a pic of it, but i also want to add those sparkling looking stars and swirly lines to it.....i know how i want it all 2 look, but i suck at drawing!....if i let the person know and they draw something up, do they charge for that???...and if i dont like the drawing...do they draw another one and then charge again??? Please i need answers! I also wanted to know if sum1 can compare the pain on ur foot to any other kind of pain?
Im not getting a butterfly bcuz its pretty...im getting it bcuz....it was both of my sisters first tattoos (they have the same one) and so does my cousin...we are the only girls left so we wanted to share sumthin....but since i wasnt 18 at that time....i couldnt get it....now i dont want the same one as them...but similar!

Answer
first, don't worry about explaining what your tattoo means to anyone. as long as you know what it means to YOU and you know that it's something you can live with forever, that's all that matters. and i think the fact that it's something you and your sisters are sharing, makes it special.

every shop has slightly different procedures and policies when it comes to coming up with custom artwork. i've worked at several different shops, and they've all kinda done it differently. some shops don't charge anything, but they don't allow you to leave the shop with the artwork. some shops charge like, $20 but it goes towards to final price of your tattoo, so essentially you're not really paying extra. but it's a one time fee, you shouldn't have to pay it again, regardless of how many times the artist has to redo it. be picky, it's something that's going to be on your body forever. tattoo artists know this, so they will more than likely encourage you to really think about the final product and see if you'd like to make any changes so that it's just right for you. your best bet is to find a shop near you that you like the artwork/tattoos that comes out of there, contact them and ask them about their policies on drawing up designs.

as far as the pain goes, i don't have any tattoos on my feet, but i have tattooed A LOT of feet. everyone takes it differently. it depends on the persons pain threshold, and sometimes even depends on the artist. some artists are more heavy handed than others. i'm very light handed so i've rarely ever had someone complain while i tattooed their feet. they said it was a little painful but i've never had anyone fidget or scream or anything. i have witnessed a girl screaming at the top of her lungs and crying once when this guy tattood her feet....but he was extremely heavy handed. and i know this because i foolishly let him tattoo my back and i threw up i was in so much pain! and now my tattoo is scarred and raised up. i'm pretty much tattooed all over, but i have my ribs tattooed and barely felt it, and most people say that's also one of the most painful areas to get tattooed. so i know it was because he was heavy handed. you live and you learn. just remember that you are a woman, a bearer of children, and you can handle anything. i bet you'll be surprised at how well you will handle it. good luck with everything, i hope it turns out great!

TATTOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Paigeee <3

I'm 15 and my step mom said i can get a tattoo when i turn 16 which is jan 6th. What should my first tattoo be a tramp stamp or like a little star or something? If you have any suggestions plz write them down & try to put a picture lol thank you!!!!!!!

Answer
First, don't let anyone sway your opinion on if you want a lower back tattoo. They were around long before the term "tramp stamp" was invented, and they'll be around long after people ask "what's a tramp stamp?". If that's what you want, then go for it!

Second, seeing as to how tattoos are forever, make it something meaningful, or something that you will enjoy for the rest of your life. Remember that likes and dislikes will change a lot over your life (especially in the next 5 years of your life), so when you make your decision, make sure that it won't be something you'll hate later on in life, such as lyrics from a band you can't remember 20 years from now ^_~ (however, if it's meaningful lyrics, or from your 'all time favorite band', then consider it [ex: I would be happy with the lyrics from Metallica's Fade to Black, but I'd kick myself if I had Vanilla Ice's Ice Ice Baby]).

Likewise, if you choose some picture of some sort, unless you plan to have a 'child-like playfulness' about you your entire life, I would avoid any sort of child-like imagery (if fate should have it that, at 80, you're a bitter old woman, you will hate the lollipop tattoo on your ankle), or conversely, anything too 'extreme' from your 'average self' (if at 80 you're a kid-at-heart, the tattoo that reminds you to take the "safe route" might become too stuffy for you).

For something meaningful, consider your own personality traits. If you think of yourself as being courageous, pick a lion. If you're cute, pick a puppy or a ribbon. If you love stargazing, pick celestial figures. If you're religious, pick your favorite passage from your (insert appropriate book here), or an icon from your favorite story. If you take pride in your heritage, pick a pattern based off that heritage... and so on.

If you want something purely artistic but simple, some suggestions: a shower of stars, a rainbow ending in a cloud, butterflies (consider natural butterflies as well, as they are just as vivid in nature as our own imaginations), frogs, geckos, vines, flowers, leaves, small birds, owls, or smiley face with "Have A Nice Day" (or maybe a pirate happy face with "Have A Piratey Day, ARRR!", or some other theme like that).

Most tattoo shops will have flash (common tattoo images) on their walls for you to look at, so if no ideas here satisfy what you want, check out their flash, and see if you can't work with your artist to come up with something that's "uniquely you".

Lip and tongue tattoo on a woman what does that mean?

Clinton

Answer
??? It means she has lip and tongue tattoos. Why don't you talk to her and find out what it means. I don't know the woman, how should I know what it means?

What do guys think of tattooed women out there such as Angelina Jolie, Drew Barrymore, Alyssa Milano who are?

alwayswear

very successful and very beautiful? Can a woman still be attractive even with all that visible ink? Guys, would you ever be embarrassed to be with a girl who likes her own style despite the fact that society makes you think you need to be pristine and act like a model? Thanks for your opinions.

Answer
I love tattoos, i have several myself. Tattoos on women are espically sexy, it means there just a little bit tougher than the other chics. As far as what society has to say about it. Screw society, tattoos are becoming more and more accepted as a part of the global culture. If a woman has more tats than me, it will just promt me to get more. As long as they mean something to her, and express her true oppinions, the more the better. If she just has a butterfly, or fairy because she thinks its "cute" then ill pass.

Tattooed women (age 40+)?

DESTRUCTO!

Hello Ladies! For my 21st birthday I want to get a feminine tattoo in honor of my mom and grandmother. I know exactly what I want but I would also like to hear from any women out there who are at least 40 years of age with tattoos.

1. Do you regret them? (of course I would ask this)
2. Have you experienced any discrimination because of it, like at work, public, etc.?
3. What do you recommend for placement? ( I was thinking my arm, but I would like to hear from others)

Thank you for your responses :)

Answer
Happy birthday, but before getting yours done, know some important facts about tattoos.

If you don't think you'll get an allergic reactions to the ink, the FDA have gotten reports from people who have, and I have read it several times on YA TATTOOS.

Some tattoo colors are harder to remove than others. Laser treatments can turn some tattoos darker instead of lighter, or change them to a different color. The same goes for "permanent makeup," which is a kind of tattoo. It depends on what ingredients went into the tattoo ink to produce the color.

But it can be hard to find out what's in tattoo inks because they usually don't have ingredients listed on the label. Very often, even the tattooist doesn't know what's in the tattoo ink because the company that made it considers the formula "proprietary" (pro-pry-uh-tar-ee). That means it's a trade secret.

Here are some more facts about tattoos:
â¢FDA has not approved any color additives for injection into your skin.
â¢People who get a tattoo should not give blood for a year afterward because of the chance of infection.
â¢Although it happens only very rarely, some people may have an allergic reaction to the dyes used for tattooing. Imagine being allergic to something that's been injected into your skin.
â¢Or, the tattooist may make a mistake. Who wants to wear someone else's mistake forever?

Speaking of forever, how often do you change your mind about your hair, your earrings, or the clothes you like to wear? It's not so easy when you change your mind about a tattoo.

Although many "temporary tattoos" are legal, some -- especially some of those imported from other countries -- are illegal in the United States because they use color additives that are not approved for use on the skin. FDA has had reports of people having allergic reactions to temporary tattoos.

What about henna temporary tattoos? Henna is a brown to reddish brown dye made from a plant. It is approved only for use on the hair, not the skin. If it is black, or any other color besides brown or reddish brown, it contains other ingredients. It also may contain other ingredients to make the stain darker, make the skin absorb the color more easily, or make the stain last longer.

Could these ingredients hurt you? It depends. Individuals are different and may be sensitive to different things. If you don't know what the ingredients are, it's impossible to tell what they might do if you put them on your skin.

According to a poll conducted in January 2012 by pollster Harris Interactive, 1 in 8 (14%) of the 21% of American adults who have tattoos regret getting one. And the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) reports that in 2011, its doctors performed nearly 100,000 tattoo removal procedures, up from the 86,000 performed in 2010.
Unfortunately, removing a tattoo is not as simple as changing your mind.
Artists create tattoos by using an electrically powered machine that moves a needle up and down to inject ink into the skin, penetrating the epidermis, or outer layer, and depositing a drop of ink into the dermis, the second layer. The cells of the dermis are more stable compared with those of the epidermis, so the ink will mostly stay in place for a personâs lifetime. Tattoos are meant to be permanent.

An effective and safe way to remove tattoos is through laser surgery, performed by a dermatologist who specializes in tattoo removal, says FDA's Mehmet Kosoglu, who reviews applications for marketing clearances of laser-devices.

2. Allergic retains to temporary and permanent tattoo inks: Reaction to tattoo inks, whether it is a temporary or permanent, is common. Studies indicate that red and yellow inks are most likely to cause allergic reactions to the skin, whereas black, purple, and green pigments have been found to be less allergic. These reactions are generally triggered by exposure to sunlight.
3. Scarring. Tattoos may lead to scar tissue. As the body attempts to remove the foreign substance (ink), bumps or small knots may form around the tattoos. Some skin conditions can also worsen due to tattoos.
4. Symptoms of an infection are: red rashes, swelling and pain. Skin Infection can take 2-3 weeks for an infection to appear.

I want to get a small tattoo on my foot, but I have a few questions about it.

1. I have heard foot tattoos can smudge-is this true and how much?
2. What are the chances of the tattoo getting smudged or anything?-is this during the healing process or forever?
3. How long is the healing process?
4. How long will the tattoo take to do-it will be like 1 in wide and 3 in long
5. Does it hurt-alot?
6. Do you recommend it on the foot why or why not?
7. I have heard you can't wear shoes or socks during the healing process-is this true? What happens if you do?
8. Will I scar from the tattoo needle? I have very sensitive skin and scar from everything
9. Will it need to be touched up in the future-how often?
10. Will it fade at all?

Answer
Smudge? Tattoos anywhere on the body lose their sharpness, especially very small tattoos. Detail will be lost. For instance, good tattoo artists won't do small text because it will run together into a blurb. you can't help that, it's your body's natural aging process. Otherwise, the tattoo can 'blow out' where the lines can look like they've strayed from the original design. Usually a result of a very heavy handed artist.
A small tattoo of that size, probably an hour, your feet do hurt because of the bones and nerves in that area. Not a lot of skin and fat = pain. Typical healing time is about three weeks (for the initial process, complete healing time can be up to two months on a foot, which is why swimming and sunning are on the no no list for that long, then wearing sunscreen, while the top layer of skin regrows after peeling), though foot tattoos tend to hurt for longer during the healing process because the artist is putting an open wound on you, you don't realize how often you use a limb until you have something painful on it. As long as you stay to the upper side of the foot, you should be ok location wise, your foot regrows skin at a faster rate than other spots of the body because of the wear and tear it sees. So getting it lower where callouses are can be horrible for tattoos fading quickly or ink not sticking well.
Inevitably you're going to wear something on your feet. If you can schedule the tattoo before a weekend where you can leave it mostly uncovered for the first few days, it'd be great. You can wear cotton or a breathable sock, you want the ink to get air to heal. Shoes, try to keep them loose and kick em off when you can. If worst comes to worst, the sock might stick to the tattoo, if it doesn't come off easily after you apply water to gently remove it, you might need minor touch ups.

A tattoo is a scar. In a worst case scenario, you might end up with a keloid type scar. They're common around piercings but if you've ever had anything like them before, you might want to really think about the tattoo. Otherwise, the tattoo won't scar beyond where the ink is applied unless you get an infection.
With today's inks and applications, most tattoos can go years without a touch up, but your feet might need them a bit more often if you're a fan of flip flops or similar shoes where the tattoo is going to see a lot of sun, or if you like cramming your feet in heels or other tight fitting shoes, they can effect how often you're going to get a touch up. Tattoos do fade. It's inevitable. It's up to your aftercare that's going to effect it and how often you'd need touch ups to refresh it. Lots of sun or abrasive shoes can certainly do damage to a tattoo.

You've left yourself plenty of time to plan, so be sure to pick out an artist you're comfortable with and ask them for aftercare advice. A lot of shops put up aftercare on their websites now so people can be prepared with the right lotions and such before they get their tattoo (I can't recall how many times I've had to run out after getting a tattoo cause I forgot to plan ahead of time). Some have different tips and tricks to make things easier for you and that can give you the time before the tattoo to pick up anything that can be beneficial to having at home before you get inked (like an ice pack if it gets too sore).

Otherwise, eat right before you go in to get your tattoo, drink something sugary, fuel helps your body tolerate the new wound Be sure to ask your artist what their aftercare is, they should be able to give you concise washing directions (typically 2-3 times a day with a mild soap, pat dry with a clean paper towel, apply thin layers of lotion, something scent free and dye free like lubriderm, etc) and other info so if you do need a touch up, they can rest assured you didn't try some off the wall healing process either. :) Have fun and happy holidays to you!

Does anyone know the significance of this tatt?

Answer
People wear the feather tattoo to represent their Native American heritage or to get in touch with their spiritual side. Eagle feathers were given to warriors in the tribe as a symbol of bravery, courage, and honor. Feathers can also be associated with those who have passed away.
One of the most common feather tattoo designs is the single feather tattoo. In many cases, the feather may actually be from a specific bird. When this is the case, the tattoo design usually has symbolic meaning from the feather and the specific bird. Some of the most common feathers used is the eagle feather, peacock feather, egret feather, ostrich feather, swallow feather, and the turkey feather.

One of the more common meanings of the feather tattoo is "freedom". Most of us have been outside when a bird feather would fly by in the wind. This is reference to where the meaning comes from. Feather tattoos in a traditional sense are usually done in black or grey. The peacock feather is a popular choice among women due to all the beautiful colors of its feathers.

The word "diamond" is Greek in origin and symbolizes "invincible". And it could be her birth stone.

What style of art is this?
