One tattooed arm on woman - message, or style?

I have seen at least two women lately with tattoos covering one shoulder top to the mid- lower arm. The ink is colorful, looks nice if you like that style.
We were wondering tho, is this type tattoo (top of one shoulder & all over upper arm, tapering off at lower arm) a fashion statement, a style that some people like, or is there another message they are giving?
Thanks for answers so far...just to clarify: I'm not saying this is a fashion trend, or needs to be a message - only that I haven't seen this type tatt on women b4. We are in warm climate, where sleevelss is common. The 2 women are diff ages (20's and ? late 30-ish), with no connection or similarity. The look is striking, that's for sure. As I said, just curious.

I love half and 3/4 sleeves for women, especially with lots of colour in it.
I would love to get one myself, but I don't because of professional reasons.

People get tattoos because they like them. There shouldn't always be a meaning behind the tattoo. I have 8 tattoos at this moment and only 5 of them have a meaning.

How does a tattoo on a woman's arm look "butch"...?

I never got that,i have seen many arm tattoos on a women and never thought it looked manly..And why are places like the wrist,ankle,hip and the foot consider "feminine" spots...What's your opinion?


Btw i have 40 hours of work so far and have a full sleeve,planing on the other arm too...
But some people do think this,and i'm asking why..

I guess probably due to the size of a tattoo. Some females just have larger arms and larger pieces on them will make them look even larger. I find it really silly when I hear females talk about how large tattoos look manly. Every piece I have on my body is big and I still look feminine.
