Tattoo cover up help?

Monky

so i got a biohazard tattoo without checking the meaning first, i was fourteen and couldn't find any designs, it's about 5"x5" on my should, RIGHT on the joint. Any cover up ideas? Preferably something general so i can build off it, but still something that can cover a giant black tribal-style tattoo. Btw the tattoo was free, so please any idiotic generic "only did it for the money" bitch comments keep out

Answer
I have seen amazing color tattoo work coverup very bold old black tattoos. It could be something colorful like Japanese style if you are into that kind of style, another that is amazing art and popular today is called Biomechanical style tattoos it suits both men and women, and if you like colorful flowers to cover it. Plus Biomechanical tattoos have a huge variety of themes it can be plants, astronomy, or machinery. Guy Aitchison is well known for that style also featured on LA Ink here he did this amazing flower piece. Roman Abrego is also an amazing artist too. Here are their websites:

I have a tattoo I want covered up??

myusername

I have a tat of a playboy bunny. Don't know what possesed me to do it..blah...anyways I HATE it & w/ 2 cover it up. It's all black and about 4 in. high 2 in. wide. I could be wrong tho. What would be some good ideas for a cover-up? I'm a women so nothing boyish I guess :) I also have a daughter I could possibly incorporate on me in a way as well.

THANKS!!
nothing too BIG, but enough to make it look like it's not a cover-up. Oh and it's on the side of my leg.

Answer
I sort of made the same mistake. Had an ex-girlfriend's name tattooed. What I did was go back to my tattoo artist and ask him for a cover-up idea. He came up with a design that worked great, and that I would never have thought of on my own. I hear laser is time-consuming, painful and expensive. You might go see what your tattoo artist suggests.

Whats up with girls getting feet/ankle tattoos?

Nathan

It looks retarded. Sorry, but it looks so tacky, especially if its like a flower or a butterfly. I saw this one girl with a damn unicorn tatted on her ankle. My recommendation? Get no tattoos on your lower body, that area (Belly Button & Downwards) is "sacred" to us men. The best place is honestly the back or inside of arm, not a tramp stamp, but something cool on the back, nowhere else.

Answer
im not too big on feet tattoos or ankle tattoos unless they are big full leg pieces. everyone has their own opinion on tattoos. i absolutely love big tattoos and have a quarter sleeve on both of my forearms. you obviously don't care for most tattoos.

live and let live.

Hey Im 15 and I really want to have a tattoo my parents are ok with it but I want something that looks cool and not big too. I want something that girls would like pls help;)

Answer
reasons why you shouldnt get a tattoo at 15:

1) your 15.
2) 'i want something that girls would like' - do i really need to explain? im thinking yes. its sound immature and like youre only doing it to impress people. get a tattoo for yourself, not so you can pull some bird.
3) its illegal.
4) your still growing so its gonna stretch and look like shite when your older.
5) anywhere that will tattoo a 15 y/o is gonna be crap at their job and probably not steralise their equipment probably. you do know that you can get HIV from that.

ok, im totally not against tattoos. im actually planning on getting one as soon as im 18. but you need to wait. your 15, what you think is cool now you gonna think is embarassing in a years time. beliweve me. when i was 15 i wanted a star tattoo. ok, it seemed cool then and i liked it coz it was simple. but it was sooo unimaginative. i would look like a right douche if id had that tattood.

why dont you find a design you like. then stick it on your wall where youll see it everyday. then, if you still want it when your 18 get it. thats what my piercer told me to do. i have. its been there abou 6 months and i still love it. not just coz it looks awesome, but also coz it means somethign to me.

now, im not saying that you have to get a tattoo that has some 'special hidden meaning'. if we're honest, your first tattoo is always going to be meaning ful purely for the fact that its your first tattoo. but when oyur 18 youll be much more likely to find a freaking awesome piece of art that not only you will love and that will look fUckign awesome. but then, youll still pull girls.

besides, what might impress girls now will not impress girls when your 21.

10 points !!! Tattoo help?!?

I'm getting a new tattoo soon. Need some advice:
- what would you compare the pain to?
- where will hurt less ( what I mean is ideas for places, but not sensitive)
- where do you think tattoos look nice/sexy on a girl ?
Any other advice would be greatly apreciated. :)
Mistress of Sin xxx
Xxxxxx

Answer
i would personally compare the sensation to a hot cat scratch; i wouldn't exactly call it pain, either- more a discomfort. the vibration of the machine numbs out the feeling a bit after a good five minutes or so, too.

the least painful places are the places with a good amount of fat and/or muscle, examples being: upper arms, thighs, calves, etc. the most painful tend to be bony areas and areas where the skin is thin. feet, hands, sternum, etc.

a tattoo looks sexy on a girl when it fits her body nicely. it needs to move with the natural curves and contours of your body and be placed in a way that doesn't look like you just stuck a tattoo anywhere it would fit.

as far as advice, the classic rules always apply: get a good night's sleep the night before, don't drink alcohol or use any illegal drugs at least two days before the appointment, eat a few hours before the tattoo, drink a lot of water throughout the day before and day of the tattoo (during the tattoo, if you can), and bring some hard candy of sorts to keep your blood sugar levels up. also, some means of distracting yourself would be a good idea. music, book, or a friend to chat with can do wonders.

biggest bit of advice- relax, and enjoy the experience. your attitude and mindset can make a huge difference.

Tattoo After Care Regime?

Carolyn H

I would like to hear some different Tattoo Care methods that people use. I have used many, but really want to hear the best ones. Each artist has a different plan. Are there different products that heal certian areas of the body better?

Answer
I have quite a few tattoos-- everywhere from my feet to forearms.

I use noxzema to wash them (pump bottle is better so it doesnt get bacteria into the tub from your hands or anything) instead of regular soap. It cools the hot feeling on your skin that lasts a few days, and very gently cleans. It is designed for the face, so it is not harsh on the skin like a lot of other cleansers, but still gives you a gentle deep clean. I didn't pull this out of my @$$. I learned this from an incredible tattoo artist, a woman who has been tattooing over 30 years. That is her tried and true secret to easy healing, and it REALLY makes a phenomenal difference.

I wash my tattoos somewhat excessively during their healing, and with 2-3 days, I am already peeling. When applying an ointment (some advise against bactracin or A&D, and others will swear by one or the other) i use MINUTE amounts of bacitracin, because of a boss of mine-- he is a tattoo artist also tattooing over 30 years, and his tattoos are in crazy good shape still. Anyway, I will use a tiny bit of ointment after I wash the tattoo-- just barely enough to make it covered very very thinly or else you may lose some quality in the color because it is healed out. As SOON as I start peeling I switch to a very neutral lotion, no scents, no fragrances, and I never use Lubriderm. I keep the tattoo very clean still and apply the lotion even AFTER it has healed.

This method has worked fantastically for me since I started getting tattooed (about 6 ago). I have worked in 2 tattoo shops and learned a lot from coworkers/artists, and also from the incredible people who have tattooed me. Using this method, 5 days after the tattoo was inked, I am completely finished peeling. Some people take up to 2 weeks.

I find that every part of my body loves this procedure :) Some areas will need extra care-- for instance, when I tattooed the whole top/sides of my foot, it was summer so I could wear flip flops during healing-- but I had to wash it SO SO constantly because it would get dirty. I ended up using tattoo goo's antimicrobial soap about once a day to make sure I killed ANY kind of bacteria that got into it.

Simple tattoo question please answer?

lower back tattoo idea?

Ellie T

well im getting my first tattoo next month, because im a catholic girl and i want a tattoo that means something to me i was going to get a cross tattooed on my belly but then everyone said about when im older and get pregnant it would stretch so instead im looking to get "jesus died for me now i live for him" because its quite a long sentence i would be getting it done in 2 lines in curly fancy writing on my lower back, wot do you think? also is lower back tattoos painful! thank you? x

Answer
Lower back tattoos are generally called tramp stamps, for something a little more unique you could get the words written down wards from the center of your shoulder blades to your lower back following your spine you can do it so its read side on so you can still use cursive fonts rather then, a which can look disjointed. Good luck :)

Good place for hidden tattoo?? ?

animalover

Hey guys so ive been thinking of getting a tattoo for years but i never though of anything and my family has always been against it. Well bottom line is im getting a paw print tattoo in memory of my dog (had him for 10 yrs) with his name on it OR with The mickey face outline thing (the disney one) because he had a mark on his leg that look exacly like the mickey one but im not planning on telling my parents or anyone but my cousin so i need some hidden locations?? I was thinking on the place where the bra goes under your armpit?? Or something like that?? Because it also need to be hidden when im wearing bathing suits and stuff? Please give me some ideas! This is very important to me

Answer
Listen closely to your tattoo artists. And take the time to choose your tattoo artists wisely. So here they are in apparent order of preference:

1. Lower Back Tattoos - This is probably the first choice as a location for a woman getting her first tattoo. Sexy, sensual, exposed at the beach but covered up at the office. May be shared with a lover but hidden from the rest of the world - especially parents and Grandma. Celebs like Angelina Jolie her her lower back tiger tattoo and Jessica Alba's bow are two examples of lower back tattoos.

2. Wrist Tattoos - popular with starlets. And can be hidden under a watch or bracelet if need be. Winston Churchill's mother had a snake encircling her wrist. Examples would be Lindsay Lohan for her wrist tattoo "breathe" and Eminem for wrist tattoos.

3. Foot Tattoos - A famous holiday vacation splurge. The problem is that tattoos on feet tend to need a lot of touching up because of their propensity to fade quickly. Carrie Otis and Charlize Theron are known for their foot tattoos.

4. Ankle Tattoos - Popularized by super models Christy Turlington and Stephanie Seymour. Can be very delicate or a bold tribal design. Check out an entire gallery of celebrity ankle tattoos

5. Armband Tattoos (true, not a specific body part) - Was once the staple in tattoo parlors around the world. Seemed like other guy in the frat house had one. Pamela Anderson triggered a wave of barbwire. The tribal armband has bought a lot of tattoo artists a new Harley.

6. Back Tattoos (also, back-piece tattoos) - The largest blank canvas on the human body. Most tattoo artists will advise you to go as large as you can comfortably mange, and then go larger. Tattoos can be an alluring enthusiasm. You may think you just want one - and which tattoo artist hasn't heard that a thousand times or more - but keep in mind when choosing your tattoo design and placement how you might incorporate it into an even larger and more elaborate piece. Check out Lena Headey, 50 Cent & LeBron James for back tattoos.

7. Arm Tattoos (which often specifies, upper arm, lower arm, forearm, shoulder and even sleeves) - see Back Tattoos. A single Koi, can in time, become an entire Japanese inspired sleeve. See Amy Winehouse, David Beckham and Anouk for examples of arm tattoos.

8. Chest Tattoos - Pectorals are a favorite spot to make a man's chest look larger. And before you ladies protest, please see number nine. Examples of chest tattoos are Lenny Kravitz and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

9. Breast Tattoos (we're standing firm on the differences between chests and breasts) - Requests for information about breast tattoos has been so popular over the years that I wrote an article entirely on that premise, called "Gilding the Lily: Why We Tattoo Breasts" Examples are Teri Polo, Christina Ricci's Blue-bird and rapper Eve.

10. Neck Tattoos - Once a taboo area for most tattoo artists and tattoo enthusiasts, the explosion in tattooing in recent years has pushed back the boundaries of what meets the community standards of acceptable body art and tattoos. Where once men and women would have full tattoo body suits, necks hands and feet were left untouched so that an individual could "cover-up" their tattoos with a suit or long dress and pass incognito in a crowd or at certain conservative social functions. musicians and tattoo artists, individuals whose independent sources of income and public reputation as "outlaws, rogues and scoundrels", has allowed them in recent years to get tattoos that were once entirely associated with gang members or individuals who had spent time in prison. But if you want to get a job in a bank when your garage band folds, you might want to think twice. See Allen Iverson for neck tattoos. Robbie Williams has a neck tattoo as well.

TATTOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Paigeee <3

I'm 15 and my step mom said i can get a tattoo when i turn 16 which is jan 6th. What should my first tattoo be a tramp stamp or like a little star or something? If you have any suggestions plz write them down & try to put a picture lol thank you!!!!!!!

Answer
First, don't let anyone sway your opinion on if you want a lower back tattoo. They were around long before the term "tramp stamp" was invented, and they'll be around long after people ask "what's a tramp stamp?". If that's what you want, then go for it!

Second, seeing as to how tattoos are forever, make it something meaningful, or something that you will enjoy for the rest of your life. Remember that likes and dislikes will change a lot over your life (especially in the next 5 years of your life), so when you make your decision, make sure that it won't be something you'll hate later on in life, such as lyrics from a band you can't remember 20 years from now ^_~ (however, if it's meaningful lyrics, or from your 'all time favorite band', then consider it [ex: I would be happy with the lyrics from Metallica's Fade to Black, but I'd kick myself if I had Vanilla Ice's Ice Ice Baby]).

Likewise, if you choose some picture of some sort, unless you plan to have a 'child-like playfulness' about you your entire life, I would avoid any sort of child-like imagery (if fate should have it that, at 80, you're a bitter old woman, you will hate the lollipop tattoo on your ankle), or conversely, anything too 'extreme' from your 'average self' (if at 80 you're a kid-at-heart, the tattoo that reminds you to take the "safe route" might become too stuffy for you).

For something meaningful, consider your own personality traits. If you think of yourself as being courageous, pick a lion. If you're cute, pick a puppy or a ribbon. If you love stargazing, pick celestial figures. If you're religious, pick your favorite passage from your (insert appropriate book here), or an icon from your favorite story. If you take pride in your heritage, pick a pattern based off that heritage... and so on.

If you want something purely artistic but simple, some suggestions: a shower of stars, a rainbow ending in a cloud, butterflies (consider natural butterflies as well, as they are just as vivid in nature as our own imaginations), frogs, geckos, vines, flowers, leaves, small birds, owls, or smiley face with "Have A Nice Day" (or maybe a pirate happy face with "Have A Piratey Day, ARRR!", or some other theme like that).

Most tattoo shops will have flash (common tattoo images) on their walls for you to look at, so if no ideas here satisfy what you want, check out their flash, and see if you can't work with your artist to come up with something that's "uniquely you".

Do you have any tattooes?

anewrachel

What are they and is there a story behind it?

Answer
Tattoos, and yes I have several of them.

My artist is Tim Maccowan of Aardvark Tattoos & Body Piercing in Saint Johns, MI. http://www.aardvarktattoos.com

At age 16 I used a needle and some India ink to put:
I (heart) Pat! on my left upper thigh/hip area. He was my boyfriend at the time. Except the tail of the 'a' later faded so now it looks like ' I (heart) Pot!' LoL Which I don't, but that just had to be the spot that faded. (I'm 32 now and still happily married to the same 'Pat' I was dating at 16).

At age 18 I did the cliche Unicorn Head on my Right hip, it still looks pretty but I've learned by now that I want original tattoos, not the flash art or cliche things like a rose, butterfly, or unicorn.

That tattoo was my first 'real' one did by an artist, and it was done in celebration of my marriage, moving away from home, and being 'grown up' now. (I was still a kid though as only age teaches you).

At age 20 something (I truly forgot the period when this one was done) I had Reverend Dark (a well known artist) do my intials on my upper Left breast. I loop my three intials together in a certain way - he traced my original signature and inked it onto my skin. He had fangs, long black hair, and spider webs inked at the corner of his eyes. I was terrified of him, yet he was the sweetest man once I got to know him. That tattoo was probably just a desire or whim of the moment inking. I know I had seen Mexican gang girls with names on their breasts and I thought it looked sexy. (I grew up in a small all white german Catholic town).

At age 32 I discovered Tim of Aardvarks Tattoos. He inked a celtic stone cross (large one!) onto the back of my neck this late May. It was for my grandmother who had just gotten seriously hurt, plus other family members. My children, husband, mother, and grandma. Plus an uncle who has a terminal disease. The cross has 4 gemstones, one at each point. Each gemstone is colored in the birthstone hue for my children, grandma, and husband. Then a yellow rose wraps up around the cross for my mom. Yellow roses are her favorite flower. The cross is for my uncle and everyone.

Then not even a month or so later (in June) I had Tim tattoo a beautiful hummingbird, purple flowers, and tribal like vine on my outter Right calf. It goes from almost my knee area to my ankle. My mother loves hummingbirds, and I figured better that then a skeleton ripping out of my skin. Might freak mom and my kids. *winks*

Annnnnnnnnd tonight, I razored a small star onto my left hand right between my pointer finger and thumb area. I then rubbed India ink into the cuts and presto, a beautiful perfect little star. This reminds me to follow my own path in life, to be true to myself and my family, and to never give up on my dreams or the future. It also reminds me how far I have come, and everything I have survived. It's one reason I did it myself.

I probably have another one that I've forgot about in my old age.

I'm going to get more of course, I'm a horrible whimp with the needles but I love the artwork once it's all said and done. I've learned that those who hate tattoos will tell you why they hate them.. what they think of tattoos on women, etc etc.. BUT I learned to ignore the negative people and just take pleasure in the many compliments and conversations strangers start up with me BECAUSE of my tattoos. *proud smile*

And for those who say 'it will look horrible when you're 80', I reply with 'so will the rest of me so who cares!' lol For those who say tattoos are somehow evil.. well, just ignore them because they have some serious mental issues and it's useless trying to convince them Satan didn't hold you down and ink your butt. hehee (No, I am not satanic.) For those who say ink is ugly on women, well those are usually the types who want a Barbie Doll perfect girlfriend so they wouldn't have liked somethign else on me or about me anyway (with or without the tattoos).

Piercings? I only my ears pierced with a 14g CBR and yes I screamed when Tim pierced them. It hurt! lol

Answer
Let me guess you go on Tumblr a lot and see these stupid b*tches with anchor tattoos and thought it was cute. ITS NOT. trendy tattoos are the worst thing ever, they're also known as "white girl tattoos" and are made fun of. I am constantly seeing girls who have anchors with some dumb ass quote to go along. It's stupid, don't get a tattoo.

Pin Up Girl Tattoo, Ideas?

Nicole Rol

I'm soon getting a special story tattoo, as a sleeve.
I am planning on drawing it myself and then have the tattooist perfection the drawing. I don't want to add to much reality to it so I want to make it like my own world.
My idea for it is to have skull pin up girls. I just wanted some ideas (pictures, or specific ideas) of some pin up girls.
I want my Pin Up Girls to be skulls with colorful flowers and each one of them will tell a story. But I just need some ideas of how I should draw them.
Thank you!(:

Is this a cute couple tattoo?

Dani

Me and my fiance want matching lyric tattoos. "Thunder" by Boys Like Girls is our song so we want either
"I dont want to ever love another, you'll always be my thunder" or
" Your eyes are the brightest of all the colors I dont want to ever love another"
Which one is better?Do you think its a cute idea?

Answer
Getting tattoos relating to a romantic relationship is extremely imprudent. Even people who are married for 30 or 40 years end up getting divorced sometimes. Just look at Sumner Redstone and Danny Devito. They both got divorced from their wives after like 30 or 40 years of marriage.

You don't want a tattoo having to do with a romantic relationship when that relationship breaks up. You'll have a permanent mark on your body reminding you of something painful that didn't last like it should have.

If you insist though, then I'd suggesting getting a tattoo that you know for sure you will be able to tolerate if the relationship breaks up. Like personally, if I were to get a tattoo of a girlfriend's name on my body I would make sure I would be comfortable with merely getting another tattoo on top of it, a tattoo of a line crossing out the name, as a form of a reminder that that relationship is done and it's on to the next relationship. Then if the relationship ever broke up I would go ahead and get that tattoo putting a line through the old tattoo. But if I wasn't comfortable with doing something like that and would hate the idea of having that tattoo there reminding me of that relationship then I wouldn't get that tattoo in the first place.

P.S. Did you know that it costs ten times as much money to get a tattoo removed as it does to get it put on? So if a tattoo costs 500 dollars to get put on, expect it to cost roughly 5,000 dollars to get it removed, maybe more.

Where is this poster of an airbrushed tattooed girl from? [image link included]?

Here is a cropped version of a poster I found at a tattoo convention. There was a set of at least 4 similar posters - all beautiful, airbrushed images of girls with tattoos. I couldn't buy it at the time, and now I have NO idea how to get any of them. I randomly found this cropped image, but it led me nowhere in my search to find the set!

Question on getting first tattoo?

``Guardian

My 17th is coming up, on Thursday and I want to get my first tattoo. (Yes, I already have my mothers consent) I have an idea of what I want, my grandmother was a tattoo artist, and I've been looking through her books to find one I like. I don't want a tramp stamp, or anything trashy.
Here's the one I really want :
http://www.rankmytattoos.com/f/wmimages/star-tattoo-117770698612562.jpg
Some thing along the lines of that. But I'm not sure if I want it, from my ankle up, or my wrist up. Which would look better?
And on a scale of 1-10 how bad would it hurt?
And would it affect me getting/keeping a job?

Answer
If this is what you really want, then get it. But, be sure because SO MANY people have this tattoo already. I dont want to tell you what to do, but if your grandmother was a tattoo artist, then she would tell you to get something original and your own, not something popular with girls.
There, I'm done giving out advice in a motherly, tattoo artist type fashion, sorry. But that's what I think.
As for the pain level, ankle tattoos hurt. Close to the bone and all that. Wrist tattoos hurt as well, though...but you're more likely to encounter employment problems with the wrist and up. I don't know what line of work you're considering, but seeing as you're a teennager(kinda young to be making a life decision like this but nevermind)you'll probably be in the service industry, which requires that tattoos are covered.

Tattooing

Answer
Tattooing has been a practice of almost every known people. The Ainu, the indigenous people of Japan, wore unique facial tattoos. Tattooing was widespread among Polynesian peoples, and in the Philippines, Borneo, Samoa, Africa, Japan, and China.

Tattooing has been a Eurasian practice since Neolithic times. "Ãtzi the Iceman", dated circa 3300 BC was tattooed, as was the mummified male found in the Pasaryk burial whose body was tattooed with stylized animal designs. In the Steppes, other natural mummies up to 7000 years old have been found to have tattoos.

Europeans rediscovered tattooing during the exploration of the South Pacific under Captain James Cook in the 1770s, and sailors were particularly identified with tattoos in European culture until after World War I.

Tattoos have always had an important role in ritual and tradition. In Borneo, women tattooed symbols on their forearm indicating their particular skill. If a woman wore a symbol indicating she was a skilled weaver, her status as prime marriageable material was increased. Tattoos around the wrist and fingers were believed to ward away illness. Throughout history tattoos have signified membership in a clan or society. Even today groups like the Hells Angels tattoo their particular group symbol. TV and movies have used the idea of a tattoo indication membership in a secret society numerous times. It has been believed that the wearer of an image calls the spirit of that image. The ferocity of a tiger would belong to the tattooed person. That tradition holds true today shown by the proliferation of images of tigers, snakes, and bird of prey.

In recorded history, the earliest tattoos can be found in Egypt during the time of the construction of the great pyramids (It undoubtedly started much earlier). When the Egyptians expanded their empire, the art of tattooing spread as well. The civilizations of Crete, Greece, Persia, and Arabia picked up and expanded the art form. Around 2000 BC tattooing spread to China.

The Greeks used tattooing for communication among spies. Markings identified the spies and showed their rank. Romans marked criminals and slaves. This practice is still carried on today. The Ainu people of western Asia used tattooing to show social status. Girls coming of age were marked to announce their place in society, as were the married women. The Ainu are noted for introducing tattoos to Japan where it developed into a religious and ceremonial rite. In Borneo, women were the tattooists. It was a cultural tradition. They produced designs indicating the owners station in life and the tribe he belonged to. Kayan women had delicate arm tattoos which looked like lacy gloves. Dayak warriors who had "taken a head" had tattoos on their hands. The tattoos garnered respect and assured the owners status for life. Polynesians developed tattoos to mark tribal communities, families, and rank. They brought their art to New Zealand and developed a facial style of tattooing called Moko which is still being used today. There is evidence that the Mayan, Incas, and Aztecs used tattooing in the rituals. Even the isolated tribes in Alaska practiced tattooing, their style indicating it was learned from the Ainu.

In the west, early Britons used tattoos in ceremonies. The Danes, Norse, and Saxons tattooed family crests (a tradition still practiced today). In 787 AD, Pope Hadrian banned tattooing. It still thrived in Britain until the Norman Invasion of 1066. The Normans disdained tattooing. It disappeared from Western culture from the 12th to the 16th centuries.

While tattooing diminished in the west, it thrived in Japan. At first, tattoos were used to mark criminals. First offenses were marked with a line across the forehead. A second crime was marked by adding an arch. A third offense was marked by another line. Together these marks formed the Japanese character for "dog". It appears this was the original "Three strikes, you're out" law. In time, the Japanese escalated the tattoo to an aesthetic art form. The Japanese body suit originated around 1700 as a reaction to strict laws concerning conspicuous consumption. Only royalty were allowed to wear ornate clothing. As a result of this, the middle class adorned themselves with elaborate full body tattoos. A highly tattooed person wearing only a loin cloth was considered well dressed, but only in the privacy of their own home.

William Dampier is responsible for re-introducing tattooing to the west. He was a sailor and explorer who traveled the South Seas. In 1691 he brought to London a heavily tattooed Polynesian named Prince Giolo, Known as the Painted Prince.

She wants to put the tattoo on her hand!?

AppleDumpl

I need to talk my best girl friend out of this! She wants to put a tattoo on the top of her hand, a bird of some kind. It's pretty, but I am sure she will regret it! What can I say to discourage her?

Answer
Well, if she is trying to fit a bird tattoo on her hand with even a semblance of detail, she is going to realize find that tattoos on the hands and feet or face age differently than other areas. Your hands and feet get more use and wear and tear than any other area of your body. Your hands come in contact with so many things on a daily basis, some things corrosive or abrasive even and the sun exposure, that's a given. Explain to your friend that a woman that used to tattoo others(that would be me) told you that skin on the hands and feet sloughs off and loses elasticity and appears to almost stretch over time more quickly than other areas and in very little time, she will notice blurred lines and an overall spreading appearance of her tattoo, not to mention an very definite fade. She must already know that this tattoo placement will affect how people look at her, and that doesn't bother her, good for her, but she needs to be thinking of the overall picture rather than showing how secure she is with herself. I'd recommend an entire sleeve before I'd recommend a hand tattoo, face or foot tattoo. Sleeves can be covered up and cared for better than hand tattoos. I care for each and every one of mine and have yet to experience any fade or weathering of any kind.
But she sounds like the type of person who isn't to be discouraged. If I were you and explaining all of this to your friend doesn't work, I would find all the coolest tattoo pics on the web you can find in OTHER places, perhaps mayne on celebrities or musicians...or maybe someone she admires, or even just random bird tattoos and make suggestions on other areas. If that still doesn't work then get some online pics of faded, worn and aged tattoos on hands and a couple articles(there are many)about why it's a mistake to tattoo your hands, fingers and face.

Tattoos on women? Opinions?

super TROL

Chest, back, groin, arm, leg tat's.

This is a hudge turn on for me. What is your opinion?

Answer
I actually don't like tattoos on women at all, and I've noticed people get flamed on these boards for saying that (I have no idea why, I'm just stating my opinion). People act like you're narrow-minded if you don't like tattoos or something - this is the most absurd thing I've ever heard. It's got nothing to do with narrow-mindedness. I literally don't like the aesthetic effect of tattoos on women. It's a purely visual phenomenon for me.

The truth is, tattoos have a masculine look to me. I am really attracted to feminine girls, so a girl with tattoos on her arms, back, legs, etc. immediately becomes less attractive to me than she would be if she didn't have the tattoos. Tattoos on women have the same effect to me as big manly muscles on women - it just isn't attractive to me. I've heard some people say that all tattoos aren't masculine - they say, for example, how can a tattoo of a rose or a flower or something girly be masculine? But they're missing the point - it doesn't matter what the tattoo is. The actual appearance of ink all over someone's skin looks masculine no matter what, even if it's tattoos of roses or rainbows. They just spoil the natural beauty and femininity of women to me.

The beauty of a woman's natural body and natural smooth skin is far more appealing and feminine than one cluttered with ink, regardless of what specific designs the tattoos have. It's a desecration of the holy temple of perfectness that is the natural female body.

Do visible tattoos make women look less classy?

trendsette

Especially the ones on the neck. It seems some women go out of their way to look as cheesy as possible.

Answer
Yes, tattoos make a woman look trashy. You may find them cool and trendy when you are young but what becomes of the tattoo when the woman gets old and wrinkled. The tattoo becomes distorted as flesh sags and that is definitely trashy. Ask some of the biker chicks of the 50's and 60's and see what they say. Tattoos also are not good when you are seeking work. They do not look professional.

Gemini men: Could you answer a few questions?

Sophia

Women who are currently married to or have been dating a Gemini man for longer than a year may answer as well. I'm doing a study on the Male Gemini. I've got a few questions that I need answered. Be honest, don't be shy. The more info the better, thanks!

1.) Since you love variety and experimenting, could you see yourself in an actual relationship with a virgin (a virgin willing to try new things and experiment)? Or would you rather stick to a more experienced partner? Why?

2.) It has been said over and over that you love natural women? Define natural. What is your view and personal opinion on hair dye and tattoos on a woman. Is that considered unnatural? Why?

3.) What do you look for in a woman personality wise?

4.) What are some do's/don'ts in the bedroom as far as women are concerned? Is it a turn on when they're verbal? What about laughing/giggling?

5.) I've noticed that many 'Gemini' celebrities always end up dating younger woman. Could you be more attracted to younger women because you are considered the most youthful sign of the bunch and want a younger woman because they have more energy than someone your own age or older?

Johnny Depp's girlfriend of 10 years (still together) is 9 years younger than himself.

Colin Farrell's ex-wife is 6 years younger than himself.

John Wayne's wife of 25 years (till his death) was 29 years younger than himself.

Answer
I myself am not a Gemini, my boyfriend of two years is however. Many of these things you question we have discussed.

1.) My boyfriend has dated both types of women, virgins and non-virgins. He has expressed that he would prefer a non-virgin over a virgin. Due to the fact that they are more willing to try new things, are more comfortable with themselves, and do not need to be directed in the bedroom.

2.) Natural does not mean the same thing to all people. Natural to my boyfriend means when a women is being natural to herself. She is doing what feels natural to her and her body whether it be tattoos or whatever else.

3.) These are his own words: "She must be spontaneous and she must be willing to surrender a part of her spirit as I would be willing to surrender a part of mine."

4.) Don't try and be the one in control with a Gemini. He loves being the one in control and making the moves.

5.) I believe you hit the nail right on the head with this one. My boyfriend has always dated younger women. When I questioned him as to why he said that it was a sign of youth for him.

Tattoo quote ideas representing a tough life?

emme

I'm thinking about getting a quote on my ribs but i'm finding it hard to find a right quote that describes my life. I'm 20 years old and growing up i dealt with a tough life but i never allowed people to see the pain i was going through. I would appear to be this happy carefree girl to all my friends, but little did they know about my life i went through behind closed doors. I do not let what happened in my past determine who i am but instead define myself to be better for the future because of it. Also along with the quote i want to incorporate a feather breaking off into birds flying off to represent the freedom i have in my life now and to let go of the past and move on.

So any ideas of a short/medium quote that would be perfect for me???
This is my second tattoo
Sorry, i meant getting a quote that represents moving on from a tough life. And after 20 years of living that way, i want to look at my tattoo and think "i got past it all and look where i am today". Also to motivate me for when things get tough again. So yes i am looking for something positive please.

Answer
You're trying to get art that represent difficult times, and you might not like them later. I always advise people to represent the positive in life, not the negative. I've had girls come in that want tattoos for an aborted baby, and other unpleasantness. They usually end up wishing they hadn't done it, later. So I try to talk them out of those kinds of tattoos.

Guys: opinion on a small rib tattoo on a girl?

anonymous/

Okay so I'm 18, 5'1" and about 94 lbs so I'm pretty small and don't look very old. For a while I've been considering a small tattoo on my ribs, kind of close to under my breast but more on the side on the ribs. It will just be one straight line and it will say תת×××¨× ×¢× ×¢×¦××× which means "rise above yourself" in Hebrew. I want this quote because I've had a lot of body issues in the past and am very easily influenced by people, so I like that it would be there as a constant reminder to myself to be stronger than my negative emotions.
Anyways, would this be attractive to you or no? I'm still going to get it if I really want to because it's my body and I'm gonna do what I want, but I would like your opinions! Turn on, turn off? Any other opinions? Thanks guys!

Answer
"it will say תת×××¨× ×¢× ×¢×¦××× which means "rise above yourself" in Hebrew." - DON'T. It's NOT what it means. Don't trust things people tell you over the Internet, especially if the consequences are for the most part permanent. What you wrote means "get over yourselves" (plural) and NOT "rise above yourself." So although their meanings are somewhat permanent, in Hebrew it is something that is not always in the nicest context. Very similar to "pull yourself together." I would really suggest that you find an alternative. Maybe something that is more easily translatable to Hebrew.

As for the tattoo itself, I think you're a bit young now. You may like it for a while, but you will come to regret it eventually. Attractiveness-wise, it would really depend on the final look. A single line below your breast area to me would seem like a serious turnoff.

Do you think tattoos on girls are sexy or do they look butch?

Aniela S

i have three tattoos and i want more...my aunt thinks that guys hate them on women and think that they make women look stronger and manlier and she thinks guys dont like that now a days...that is why i am asking the question i would like to know what you think??? do you think tattoos on girls are sexy or do you think they make them look butch??

Answer
Some tattoos (small, cute ones) can look cute on a girl. Some larger tasteful ones can still look nice.

I don't think they make a girl look "butch." To most they probably make a girl look "used," hence the reason some of the answers above are saying she looks slutty.

To me, though, they make her look like she's still wearing something. Kinda like if a girl climbed into bed with you still wearing a hat - sure, it might be a nice hat, but it's still a distraction. I want to see HER, and to me she needs no decorations :)

Tattoos on girls?

Christine

Ok this question is aimed at guys, but girls I would love to hear your comments too. So I love tattoos I have 4 and want so many more. I have a fairy on my hip, a decorative C on the back of my neck, huge fairy wings that take up my whole back and "bella" writen on my wrist. I also want one right below my cleavage, my upper thigh, and behind my ear. So people, my question is, do you think that girls with a lot of tattoos are unattractive?

Answer
I know your question is not aimed at me; however, I have to say GO GIRL.

You know that you love tattoos; get as many as you are comfortable and happy with. Guys that think they're unattractive may or may not be turned off by the ones you already have. Make yourself happy, and some guy who loves tattoos will love you for being yourself.

It hurt! lol

Where should I put a tattoo of a quote?

Concerned1

I want to get this quote. I really wanted it on my hand above my thumb going down my pointer finger because it would have made perfect sense but then my bf said it wouldn't be good for job opportunities later on. I don't know where else to put it. I cant put it on my back cause that space is taken from another tat. I want it somewhere I can see it but also would be able to cover it if i had to for jobs.. Any ideas that wud be look nice on a girl?..
Its 5 words long.

Answer
the side of the finger often does not even hold a tattoo, it just falls out. A quote up the side of the body is pretty if you have the body for it, or curved along the top of the foot (get it custom shaped to curve with your body), like a low slung necklace on the chest, or across the top of the back.

How does this quote sound as a tattoo? maybe on my side.?

jakkemeado

âThe mass of men
lead lives of quiet
desperation.
They wait, hope
and pray
that someday it will.â

spaced like this. straight Thoreau. it means a lot to me. even tho its really not a complete sentence would it be ok? and i understand the meaning so don't bash me on that.

Answer
I like it, seems profound. Go aheadd girl :D

Here's some picture ideas :)

Birds, i think swallows would be a good choice for location: 1.

[Most common colors i've seen for swallow tats, are like navy blue and red. You could do like a shadow grey, or black and white. Or just even black or grey outline. Or pick your favorite colors]

Bows, i think bow tattoos look super cute on the hip bone more than the chest area. Here's some bow tattoos, just not in the location you're talking about: 1. http://inkarttattoos.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/laced-up-bow-tattoos.jpg

Does anyone else think tattoos are ugly?

liz

I'm 17, and a girl, and these days I'm always seeing tons of people my age getting tattoos, and it seems that EVERYONE these days likes tattoos and can appreciate a 'good' tattoo, etc. I used to want a tattoo when I was younger, but thank god I didn't convince my mom to let me get it, because nowadays I hate tattoos. Even just small ones. I can't really picture myself ever getting one. I just think that a clean, non-inked body looks prettier and more natural than, say, this: http://s3prod.weheartit.netdna-cdn.com/images/6160684/tumblr_le8ekzQGaw1qctom9o1_500_large.jpg?1294625822

Sure she's a lovely girl but I feel like she'd be 100 times better without the huge tattoo on her chest.

Plus, imagining half the tattoos I see these days 50 years from now is nott a good thought.

Does anyone agree with me? Just curious to hear some opinions on this matter.
I'm not saying that I judge people for having tattoos; not at all. What I meant by 'she'd be better without the tattoo' was actually that she would LOOK a lot better without it, that's all. I'm not trying to say I know her at all or what kind of person she is or anything like that. And I think that there are plenty of great people out there who do have tattoos. I don't believe that all tattooed people are evil, not at all. I just really disagree with those people who get tattoos, just to get tattoos.

Answer
I agree 100%. . A tattoo is little better than a cartoonâyou canât get a good quality drawing on the human skin. Tattoos are an urban blight. They are ugly, like graffiti. Like graffiti, they lower the quality of the environment. Tattoos lower the quality of life, for everyone who has to see their ugliness. I donât like the whole concept of tattooing, the way these hideous cartoons are inked into the flesh of people through bloodletting and pain; to me they are a dark and evil art. Tattoos are closely linked to other forms of self harm, like cutting, piercing, drug use, etc.; they are hand-in-glove with these destructive behaviors. I donât like the way evil people encourage our vulnerable children to get tattooed, so they can make money off of them. They do not care that they are causing harm. And yet, these evil ones, these tattoo predators, are even admired by their deceived victims. Young people are fooled into wanting tattoos by degenerate Hollywood and the media. Kids think tattoos are cool and cutting edge, but over time, they wind up hating their tattoos. Far worse, they wind up hating themselves. Parents and older people are so afraid of being disliked that they say nothing against tattoos, even though they know better. Worse, some completely abandon their responsibility to provide sound guidance and even encourage the young ones to get tattooed. As far as tattoos being âartâ, that is garbage. A tattoo is NOT "a work of art". The human body is not a canvas and the abusers and mutilators who desecrate it are not artists. Most of their so called "art" is little better than comic book drawings. If you want to see the true level of cultural development for tattoos and other body modifications, look at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwOXCmjTs⦠. More and more young people are buying into this Hollywood lie that tattoos are a cutting edge way to âexpressâ yourself. But that is so not true. You should express yourself with your words and actions, not by inking graffiti onto your living flesh. I have no tattoos. I hate tattoos and those who inflict them upon our young people. Do not listen to the many predators and enablers here, who encourage young people to abandon decency and live self indulgent and destructive lives. Let me tell you why I am so anti-tattoo. The true cost of a tattoo is a lifetime of regret. . There is nothing good about a tattoo Young peopleâdo not get tattooed. Stay in school, do your best there, avoid drinking, drugs, tattoos and piercings, and avoid those who have them. Go to college, study science, mathematics, or business, and avoid liberal arts (unless you are wealthy and donât need to make a living). God bless you in your life.

Guys, do you like waist tattoos on girls?

Jessica

Or let me know if you'd rather have a girl have her bellybutton pierced, anything else or just nothing. Do you think it's sexy or trashy? If you're a girl, Im not gonna read your answer.

Answer
personally belly button rings gross me out. i have a few tattoos so i'm gonna sound like a hypocrite saying this to you but.... just because i wanted to get them done so bad 10 years ago, i don't feel the same way today. luckily they're covered up when i wear clothes, but honestly i'm a bit embarrassed sometimes when people want to come check them out. i really don't even consider myself a tattooed person, but i do have two of them. most of the time, i've forgotten that i even have them. so all i'm saying, is that something that was once so important to me, isn't any more. i'm not getting them removed or anything like that, i'm just indifferent towards them.

now if i see a girl with a tattoo, i've got a pretty good idea that she puts out. if she smokes cigarettes and has a tattoo, then i know she'll definitely give it up. i just gotta figure out if she'll give it up to me or not. i'm starting to wonder if people (especially girls) who have tattoos, have some form of self esteem issues. i could fall into that category. the reason i got the tattoo i have on my back, was due to self image and the fact i just thought i had to get that tat...

best wishes... do whatever, but just know that some mistakes are permanent. and once again, bellly button rings make me cringe

What do you think of tattooed girls?

I've been around tattoos my entire life. My dad, uncle, grandfather, & two of my brothers are all heavily tattooed. I've wanted tattoos ever since I was little & my father is supportive as long as I don't get any that are easily visible & could get in the way of getting a job. I've been planning a sleeve from the top of my shoulder to around my elbow. It's a sketch I've been drawing & editing for the last 7 years & it's going to be my 18th birthday present before I head off to college. However, I don't want people to get the wrong idea if they somehow see it.

What do you think when you see a girl that is tattooed? Obviously not a small one, something big like the sleeve I'm planning to get. It's okay to be rude, I just want your honest opinion & your reasoning, if you have any.

Answer
I personally think tattoos on girls are hot, as long as it's strategically placed. Too much tattoo or certian designs make them look manly or dirty. Personally, that sleeve tattoo u're planning doesn't seem a good idea, especially for a girl. What if you need to go to a formal party in the future? U can't wear sleeveless gowns or dresses without looking manly. Usually, the ones that look great on girls are on the the back of the neck, hand, armband or back of the shoulders and the ones that are not overly-colored and do not exceed 3 inches.

Well, it's actually just a matter of preference and your own style. It's still best to get one that suits your personality, because tattoos shouldn't just be accessories but self-expression. The stuff I mentioned above are just tips to consider. Also consider the fact that some employers don't accept inked emploees, like in some hotels, restaurants, planes and ships. So if your dream career is related to those, I suggest you think about it really well.

At the end of the day, it's still up to you. Good luck. :)

What makes girls with tattoos so appealing?

Midnight T

Iâm a guy who dresses in tight jeans or dress pants, collar shirts, and shoes. I love to dress like a pretty boy but for some odd reason I am turned on by chicks with tattoos (and Asiansâ¦donât ask). What makes girls with tattoos so freaking appealing?

Some of you are quite simple minded. Just because a chick has a tattoo doesn't really make her a slut or trailer trash. Let me ask you this? Say your mother just got or has a tattoo..does that make her a slut?

Answer
Its the mystery behind the tattoo that is so appealing... its what leaves you wanting more. Tattoos to me, are either something you absolutely love or what you are too scared to otherwise admit to the world. Its a form of self expression that is so beautiful and unique that its a shame that people still associate it with a lower class of society.

To the shallow minded answers out there: How dare you imply that anyone with a tattoo is a slut or trailor trash or whatever. Its not the tattoo itself that makes a person a slut, its the person behind it themselves. If they act and/ or dress in a provocative manner then thats their perogative. We are all entitled to live our life as we please. Who do you think you are to judge someone by their apperance anyways? Do you think it makes you sound SO much better than them? I dont think so... In fact, it makes you sound shallow and judgemental. We [tattooed people] dont look at you any differently, we treat everyone the same despite what you look like... so let me ask you this: who really is the better person now?

I have 5 tattoos myself, and when I feel like showing them off, I do. But how sad is it that when I go to places of a higher class, I actually cover them up... not because Im ashamed, but because I know that they wont give me the service I deserve if they see I have a huge tattoo on both my upper and lower back. I can honestly say though, I love showing off my tattoos and I take every opportunity I can to show them off. They each have a special meaning to me and I dont regret any of them... and for the record, yes, I DO plan to get more.

Answer
I think i found the tattoo you are talking about with the girl above the groin, if u type in mayhem ambrigram tatto, you should come up with the site, it was titled "vagina ambigram, not cute"

If you just want a place to check out some cool ones, including the one you are looking for, check out wow tattoos-you can order the stencil you like and take to the tattoo shop.

Hope this helps.
