Placement of butterfly Tattoo on a girl?

Kelly H

I am wanting to get a butterfly tattoo not too big i have the design picked out i just am not too sure of where to put it. have any ideas?

Answer
Good question. I was actually thinking the same thing the other night (btw there are some gorgeous butterfly tattoo) now getting a tattoo kind of boils down to body size... if you are tiny then on your hip works good, and on your lower back, lower back even works for average size women too. Your shoulder neck and foot work for any size because they are areas that do no gain alot of excess fat. I am getting mine on my neck (because i think it looks cute) and on my foot (to cover up an old tat) because i fluctuate alot. You can also get it on your ankle... and pretty much where ever you want to... Just some ideas!!!!!

I'm getting a tattoo for my girl, without using words. I'm a scene/emo kid (thought i might stereotype myself so you get an idea of who i am and what i enjoy) plz give great detail about the design or use pictures! Also where at on my body? My right forearm is already taken! Anywhere works on my body besides there.
The word WITHOUT is there!! I don't tattoo words on my body because my thoughts could change!

Answer
Well, I'm not going to give you the gf/bf advice because everyone else already has and you are going to do what you are going to do. However, you may need to give a little input about yourself and your girl that can be represented visually if you want some online help. Emo/Scene doesn't really help unless you get something that involves musical connection between you two. Maybe take a look at a mutual favorite song and try to take the lyrics and think of the words as pictures and scenes. It's pretty easy, lyrics make great inspiration for visual representations.

I want to get a tattoo to represent my two kiddos but do NOT want names or their birthdates. I'm sorry, I just don't care for name tats. I have a 3 yr old girl & 2 month old boy.

Answer
My sister is getting her 4 year old daughters hand print. I thought that was cute. Or even do their newborn hand or foot print. I know this sounds silly but when I miscarried 5 years ago I did not know what sex the baby was going to be and I was due on the first day of winter so we named our lost unborn child Snowflake so we didn't have to refer to it as "it," I have a tattoo on my breast of a snowflake with angel wings and a halo. The idea of the monkey that someone posted was cute. My mother-in-law got a sun with "you are my sunshine" inside it to represent my husband because she used to sing that song to him all the time. Things like that are super cute and meaningful.

Thinking of getting a shoulder tattoo, opinions? Girls?

jschmuck

Hey everyone, I'm thinking of getting another tattoo to get on my shoulder. Planning on having it go down to my elbow and up to my neck. A tribal shoulder tattoo of course.

Before I get any haters, I only get tattoo's that have meanings to me, otherwise I really don't see a point. I enjoy tattoo's and explaining the meaning of what I have to others.

I want to get it done on my left shoulder, thinking a stylized flame tribal would look best. I have some already on the arm if you looked at the picture. Zodiac signs, from the bottom up, libra (me), capricorn (brother), aquarius (sister). That went by youngest to oldest. Anyways, thinking a tribal shoulder tattoo, that basically wraps around the zodiacs and work down to my elbow. Then up just below halfway on my neck.

Also planned on getting a Leo (for my dad) on my left pec. As I would have the tribal wrap around that, and then a pisces (for my mom) on the back of my left shoulder blade. I think the tribal would represent my family being together and representing other meanings to me.

What do u think when u c a girl with a tattoo on her shoulder?

Elle

just one tattoo?-do you think its tacky or not classy like?

Answer
I like 'em. I agree with Leslie- it's in the way she presents herself. If she looks trashy, then, in all honesty, almost anything she does will be trashy.
And I love it- people who DON'T have tattoos are the ones saying people will regret them. They speak without experience. Yeah, it's true, some people do regret them, but it's normally people who went and got one when they were drunk or underage and got one for the sake of being able to say they had one.
Most people who do have tattoos, have thought long and hard about it, the location, the meaning, and if they really want to remember that meaning. Most tattoos tend to not be a spur of the moment thing.
I think it also depends on the tattoo- I've seen alot of scene girls with tattoos of cupcakes or robots smply because it's what's trendy now. Talk about stupid. But, again, it's not my place to tell someone not to get a tat of a trend and to put more though into what they have, and, who knows, maybe they got a cupcake or a robot because someone they loved and passed away had a passion for those things. My assumptions and instant classification of 'stupid' or 'tacky' demeans any possible meaning behind those tattoos. It is a purely ignorant assumption on my part, and you know what they say about people who assume; it makes an "ass out of 'u' and 'me'."

What are the tell-tale signs of a woman's sexual morality?

Questioner

I am a virgin and would not want to get into a relationship with a woman who is not a virgin. And It is not possible to ask a woman if she is a virgin on the first date. So are there any signs that can tell me if she is not a virgin? Perhaps some behaviours that are characteristic of sexually active women.

Answer
........attire and body "art" could be indicative of their sexual morality..but now days?...less than ever...I have met MANY church girls....who were wearing white frilly dresses...no tattoos...no piercings.......VERY proper......mom would love them........and they were "wild".......when given the opportunity.........we are all human........have some "kahunas".......tell your date how you feel about virginity right up front...she will tell you how she feels ...or may remain silent...that should give you , your answer......it's not like they are going to walk around with their pants down...or with a sign....it's not quite like 50 years ago when you could tella "jesabelle" by her makeup and clothing...girls like to dress sexy..it's in their software...to attract boys..it's the way they are made...and Madison Avenue only serves to intensify this with all their sexually based ads........lowrise jeans...tube tops...halter tops....string bikinis....thongs......etc.etc. Ambercrombie & Fitch...........get me?.........so while they may dres like the crowd...there is a HUGE sense of wanting to "belong", especaially at a young age.......that doesn't necessarily mena they want to have premarital sex........church is a much better place to look for a virgin , however, than in a bar........or a "heavy meat all"......erhhh....I mean "heavy metal"........concert........lol....

does a tattoo hurt??????????????????????/?

Jenny Rile

i want to get a tattoo on my stomach and my arm and i was wondering if it hurt to one in both places

Answer
Hmmmm I got this from another Yahoo Answer to a similar question, It might help:

I answer these questions related to pain in the same way every time.

The pain in different places differs from person to person, pain threshold does have a lot of input but, for example, my chest tattoo didn't hurt at all, where as some people I know said their chest tattoo hurt a lot!

Anyway, here's a basic pain level chart I always refer people to.

Pain level 1
These include the upper arm, forearm, calf, Bum, and Thigh. For a first tattoo these are great points to begin your inked journey.

Pain level 2
These include the centre back, front / side of thighs and shoulders. This is also not too bad a start for your first tattoo. The shoulders and central back region can be area that require quite a lot of movement. The skin on these areas is much looser meaning it takes longer to tattoo and also longer to heal. On areas that have lots of movement such as these, require more care once a tattoo is completed. Due to the thigh area being quite a dense muscle mass and also quite tight skin, it may tend to bruise the day after.

Pain level 3
These include the knees, elbows, hands, head, neck, feet, chest and back of thighs. Beginners beware of starting at these areas. You would need to be determined to have tattoos here as the high sensitivity would require a lot of mental focus to get you through. The poor quality of skin on both the knees and elbows will result in a very slow tattoo process and nerves are very close to the surface in these areas. This could result in the tattooing being unbearable for any length of time for some people. As with the orange areas these tend to be high movement areas and will require a longer healing timescale. You may find that to achieve a good solid colour, you may have to repeat the tattoo process on these areas. As a side note the chest area on men can be much more sensitive to pain than a woman, yet due to the tighter skin on a male, the tattoo can be completed quicker.

Pain level 4 (OWCHIE!)
Areas include hips, ribcage, stomach, back of knees, armpit, inside of elbow, nipples, lips, inside of thighs and genitals. Are you really sure you want to get that tattoo? As these areas can elicit crying, half finished tattoos or even the customer passing out. This could just be more than you may be able to handle. All of these purple areas are considered by most to be the most painful areas to be tattooed. The stretchy or thin skin over bone are slow to tattoo, some of these may require multiple sessions to achieve solid colour and smooth shading. Healing can be just as painful as receiving the tattoo and may require a few days off from your regular activities.

SOME USEFUL TIPS WHEN GETTING A TATTOO:

â¢Women are your more sensitive the week prior to and during your cycle. Plan around those dates to have the best experience possible when getting your tattoo.
â¢Use lotion everyday on the area to be tattooed at least 1 week prior for healthier skin and better results.
â¢Do not go out in the sun at least one week prior to being tattooed (including tanning beds) This drys the skin and if peeling occurs could damage the tattoo.
â¢Consider what you will wear for 2 weeks while healing if your tattoo is in an area like the foot, waist, shoulders or chest. Shoes, waistbands, belts, underwear, and bras can all damage tattoos if you do not plan ahead. Find comfortable clothing that will not touch or rub during this time.
â¢Always eat a good meal before being tattooed and drink plenty of fluids.
â¢Be sure to get a good nights rest before your appointment.
â¢Ask what kind of after-care products you will need when you set up to get your tattoo.
â¢Mention any allergies you may have, pigments, dyes, perfumes.
â¢Some medication may thin your blood, check with your doctor before being tattooed.
â¢Anyone with an autoimmune disorder needs to check with their doctor and should bring a note to be tattooed.

Girls with big tattoos?

KD69

I'm thinking of going over my tattoo, and maybe enlarging it at the same time. It covers the whole space between my shoulder blades, will it look weird if it were bigger? I've been told big tattoos only look good on guys or really pumped women.

Answer
If it's what you want, get it. Better to have a tattoo that some people might have some backwards opinions about than a tattoo that you don't totally love.

Hell, I'm almost done getting my entire side tattooed, from my boob all the way down to my upper thigh, and then I'm going to get most of my other thigh done and some of that side too. Who cares what other people think? If you want it, get it. It's your skin, not anybody else's.

Manly tattoo ideas for the hip and etc?

Nicodemus

What i look for in getting a tattoo is base on 3 things. style, color, and place.
Style is scrollwork the stuff you see on engraved guns. Color not sure. But place need help
i was thinking hip or hip to hip and on the lower back plus trapezius. I heard women get it on the hips but i am not gay and don't want to give of a gay vibe. I want to know is that a good idea. i want to make it look cool and manly like. I am somewhat muscular and don't want to cover and muscle.
Any opinions or ideas. I don't have a tattoo and don't want to mess up on my first.
i am keeping scrollwork ideas cause its different and make i look similar to tribal though.
i was also thinking shoulders, calve and maybe chest
Plus any tattoo artist who look at this please comment and leave your ideas.

Answer
Because women have been getting 'tramp stamps' on their lower back, and hips, by social standards tattoos in those places are seen as feminine. That's not to say your design would be seen that way should you get it done in either of those places - but if you really want to avoid that social stigma, my advice would be to try between shoulder blades, pectorals, or on your thigh.

No matter where you put the tattoo, it will be over muscle, so your comment of "don't want to cover any muscle" is pointless. If you're wanting something masculine, putting a tattoo on well defined muscle is probably a good idea.

If you're not sure, even after getting answers on here, do some research on tattoo artist in your area. Find some experienced artists in reputable studios, and actually go in with your design idea and ask them - it is their job to be able to tell someone where tattoos would work or not work, and physically seeing the design and your body shape will be better for you.

Good luck. :)

sexiest place for a tattoo on women ?

Chantal

lower back ,upper back , hip , ribcage or chest ?
thanks :)

Answer
The sexiest place for a woman to get a tattoo would be the upper thigh. It's a good spot because you can't see it unless the woman wants to show it off which in that case it's very sexy. I also think the ribcage and chest are great spots for a tattoo on a woman and is very sexy too. You shouldn't get it on your lower back mainly because so many women get their tattoos there, not saying it isn't sexy though. Good luck!

Examples of Cultural Practices, or Objects?

Q. I need some examples of these for an anthropology paper I'm helping my mom to complete. We have a few ideas, but we want some more choices, in case we can't find enough research material for ours. Here's what we got so far:

Cultural practices
1) Indian Suttee
2) Chinese foot binding
3) Native American Sweat outs

Cultural Objects:
1)Didgeridoo (that wind instrument from Australia)
2) Totem poles

Any other practice or object you can think of, along with what group it belongs to would be great. It can be well known or obscure, doesn't really matter. Thanks YA!!

Answer
Living cultures only, or from extinct societies as well?

I'm including on this list things that originate only as symbols, but are or were made into objects frequently, when the objects were/are meant to convey meaning.

Egypt: the ankh
India: the mandala
Japan: Mount Fuji (Fuji-san)
China (and elsewhere): yin and yang
Europe (and elsewhere): the Christian cross
20th-century Germany: the swastika
India, other parts of Asia, and elsewhere: the swastika (both clockwise and counter-clockwise configurations)
Pre-21st-century Roman Catholics: not eating meat on Fridays
Many parts of Africa: circumcision (of both males and females; and in some places done to children, in other places, to adults)
Europe, North and South America, many other places: tattooing
Europe: good-luck horseshoes
Ancient Mayans, and other Central Americans: ear-spools
Ancient Greece, and Europe into modern times: the symbols for male and female
Ancient Greece, ancient Rome: the signs of the zodiac
Africa, and many other tribal cultures: the sending of young men into the wilderness as a coming-of-age rite. The rules about their length of time, how much contact with humans they may have, and the conditions they need to meet in order to return, vary widely. I believe the Zulus in southern Africa have some of the best-documented customs re: coming-of-age journeys.
English-derived cultures: for weddings/brides, "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue."
There is a tribe/cultural group somewhere in Asia, I think, where the young men are required to climb to the top of a tall, specially-built tower, tie vine ropes around their ankles, and jump off, as their coming-of-age ceremony.
Europe and North America: making New Year's resolutions.
Scotland: preparing for a tall, dark stranger to be the first to cross a family's threshold on New Year's Day.
Europe: putting a cut tree (usually an evergreen) into the top-most window of a building when it has finally been built up to its final height -- not necessarily when the building is finished, only when it will get no taller.
Africa: Zulu high-jumping dancers
New Zealand: Maori haka dancers (the haka is a war dance, and is only to be danced by men. Used nowadays to start team sports games)
Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Belgium: building nesting platforms on the rooves of house, to encourage mated storks to build their nests there.
Germany: choosing a (live) Christmas tree to cut down *only* if it has a bird's nest in it (abandoned from the summer)
Native Americans: women who were menstruating going to a special "women's house" or "women's compound," and staying there for the duration, with limited or no contact with their families or the rest of the tribe.
Europe: the breaking of a poultry-fowl's wish-bone at or after dinner
South Seas island cultures: men going naked, except for penis sheaths (various materials, depending on which culture)
Australia: Aboriginal rock paintings and rock carvings, esp those depicting Dreamtime stories and spirit lore
Australia: Aboriginal places set aside exclusively for "secret men's business" and "secret women's business"
Medieval and Renaissance Europe: extremely elaborate salt-cellars, set on the dining table as symbols of wealth and status (especially the "nefs," salt-cellars shaped like ships in full sail; and the salt-cellars carved out of solid rock-crystal)
Western societies: three golden balls, indicating a pawn-broker's shop
Western societies: the red-and-white, spiral-striped barber's pole
From Europe, but now world-wide: the caduceus, indicating a doctor
India: "death houses" for those in the last stages of dying, and their families
Pre 21st-century Western societies: the red cross painted on first-aid kits
Western societies: Christmas trees, even for non-Christians

Where is it in Africa that certain groups pierce holes in the lower lip, and insert plates?

Look up any sort of ceremony you can think of, and there will be objects and activities associated with them. That includes (you may have noticed on my list :-D ) our own. Standard occasions for ceremonies include all of the changes in life circumstances: birth, naming, dying, death, weddings and marriage, coming-of-age (to adulthood), change-of-name on becoming an adult in some societies, committing a crime, punishing a crime, moving into a new house, building a new building, parenthood, menopause for women, illness, funerals/wakes and burials, etc. There are also practices and objects associated with everyday things: all sorts of good-luck charms and rituals, necessities-that-aren't connected with eating, things to do if you break something, cozy rituals for "apologizing to the universe" if you say something you shouldn't, or the like, and so on. "Step on a crack, you'll break your mother's back," etc.

Okay, I need help finding a tattoo design. I DON'T want any words or stars. Just a cute swirly design, or something else. I dunno. I want it under my right breast, kind of going around it towards my armpit, if that makes sense.

(I don't care if it's not "meaningful." I just want something that looks cute.)

Answer
A lot of women tend to get floral designs along the ribcage that taper off to "cup" under the breast and under the armpit. Vines in general can be used to accentuate the curvature of a woman's form. A good artist that understands muscle structure and physical proportions can use the vines from the floral design to have it flow along the right area to bring out the curves in your body henceforth creating a really feminine and eye captivating piece. In addition to the floral design you can also add butterflies which works out nicely to add more color and femininity to the piece. If you're not into the usage of floral illustrations, you could possibly go with just a filigree design that could serve the same purpose with flow and curvature accentuation. Filigree extensions could be used as background towards more traditional or contemporary work that you and your artist could discuss.

if so, how many is too much? see i have 4 tats already. i want to get my upper body done. in total they would be 14. too much? or acceptable.

Answer
My husband is covered in tattoos, his arms are ripped and r sleeved out in traditional black and grey, it is so sexxy. He also had all the upper part of his back done as well. I don't think 14 is too many at all. I'm sleeved out on both arms and have my upper back, lower back, my wrists and back of my neck and one on my right leg done., so in total not including the sleeves its about 32 and a lot of guys think it sexxy on a girl. So ya go all out on ur tattoos girls with the right state of mind will love it, girls who don't r most like too judgemental anyways. Good luck and have fun!

can i get a tattoo?

anamara_88

14wks. i want one on my lower back

Answer
NO! No reputible tattoo artist would EVER give a pregnant woman a tattoo!!!

here is just a FEW reasons why:

SAFETY

-There is a risk of infection from the procedure, especially if needles are un-sterilised, which is always a possibility. The infection can transmit to an unborn baby or be given through breast feeding.

-There is a greater risk of infections of any kind during pregnancy due to a suppressed immune system.

-Infections can lead to Hepatitis B or HIV.

-Ink and dyes can get into the blood stream, especially as bleeding will occur during the procedure, and can be poisonous to an unborn child. Whilst there is inconclusive research into the danger of skin dyes, and it almost always remains in the upper skin layers, it is unwise to take the risk. This is especially important in the first twelve weeks of pregnancy.

-Some doctors may refuse to give an epidural through a lower back tattoo. This is an injection of anaesthetic into the epidural space of the spinal cord done to lessen pain during labour.

-Allergic reactions to ink and dyes can occur, lowering your own health and weakening the immune system.

-Ripping of the skin due to a weaker immune system can be much more of a risk when tattooing a pregnant woman's skin.

All the above are risks to the mother's health and the baby's health.

COSMETIC

-The skin is hypersensitive during pregnancy, thus you are quite likely to scar from simple grazes and cuts. Keloids are red raised abnormal lumps common during pregnancy, so the attack and stress to the skin from creating a tattoo can very possibly cause these types of problems.

-A woman's weight will fluctuate greatly during pregnancy. The tummy, hips, breasts, arms and legs are all areas that will get bigger thus a tattoo on any of those areas will likely stretch and get distorted out of shape, which can be both unsightly and disappointing.

-Stretch marks will also stretch a tattoo out of shape.

-The skin rapidly changes and its pigmentation may render tattoos faint and colourless.

Is it worth the risk to even try?

Answer
14-16 is preferred.

I like guys who are taller than me (I'm 5'5) but if he's a bit shorter then I don't care.

I usually go for blondes but I only care if the guy's hair looks clean and nicee.. I like a guy with brownish/black hair currently.

I always somehow like when guys hair is a bit longer and they pull it off well. Shoulders as longest. I do like short hair though but I never really liked shaved hair.

All the guys I've liked had wavy or curly hair (because I usually like ones with a cool ethnicity not that I actually LOOK for that but I think it's cute when guys are proud of their hertiage... weird lol. Things that are different and foriegn to me is intruging because so many Sag placements maybe?)

Clean shave - stubble. Beard at 16 is a bit weird to me and a bit too scruffy but if the beard was temporary for like a week (I wouldn't force the person to shave it or do anything different with their face, I don't own it xD) then I guess I could handle it. I do perfer a clean shave though most of the time unless a little stubbly mustache is sexy ;) heh

Any color. I don't like if they are just bland and normal I care A LOT about eyes and I want eye contact so no fidgety xD

I don't get that question.. sorry lol

I like a guy now who is Sicilian,Irish, and German. I don't care what color really, I do like when a guy is either one of these: Italian, Greek, Polish, English, German, Irish, or other countries in Europe. I think a cool heritage background or awesome family a guy I like makes me like him more.

Can be any of those.. I don't really like a bunch of pimples or freckles though all over the face.

Labels I can be attracted to: preppy, classy, straight edge, just someone being themselves is fine.

One little tattoo that has meaning behind it is cool but if it gets over more than 3 tattoos I'm usually turned off because by then people get addicted and want a bunch of tattoos lol. I don't like big tattoos I just don't.

Idk whatever the person wants

I like good boy who does all his work and is a good student, a great and funny friend, gentlemen. But I would get bored without a bad side.. love a bad side.

EYES, face shape, does hair count?, and all of it together. I also like looking at the nose.. weird.

I don't care if the guy is 'buff' or anything but it's a plus. I just don't like fat or laziness but a bit of chub is okay I guess xD : I like the arms if they're nice.. uhh not sure I usually look at face and personality.. I really like if the guy is fit and active full of energy, but he does have to have abs or anything I don't care about them.

PERSONALITY (meaning the most to me!)
Funny 70%, Romantic 30% of the time.

Both really? I can't choose ahhh.. Smart geeky in a way he's also funny so it makes him popular, BOOM! Popular makes nice parties and get togethers xD but smart geeky so he is interesting.

Talkative!

Laid-back and serious... serious when needed but laid-back so people can have a good time around him. Not a push over! No one hurts MAH MAN.

Extrovert means your more open as in what a Leo would be and Introvert as in being more like a Scorpio, right? I like both as long as the person isn't off in their own world but I love when guys are good with people... Extrovert preferred!!

Out-going

Bad hygiene, rude, stuck-up, fake, a typical boy, stupidity, to 'good' to do things, meanies!, not understanding, annoying, a huge cry baby! (being emotional and loving is so cute but always thinking negative or being soo sad all the time brings me down)

A water sign as a sun, an air/fire sign as the moon, a spunky mars-venus pairing xD anything that is compatible with me but I like Gemini placements, a cool moon sign, and water sun so for example:
Cancer sun, Aquarius moon, Gemini venus and mars. Aries venus and mars would be cool too.. firey or airy to match my Sag mars and venus.

I'm least attracted to lots of Virgo placements, a watery moon, and an Earth sign sun sign usually. Not that I wouldn't like someone if they weren't compatible with me at all I would just go with the flow and see how it would go with them even if our birth charts implied we would hate each other... worth a try haha. Any placements that are exciting and a few that keep them undercontrol and smart, alert.

I am thinking about getting a Monroe Piercing. Can someone give me insight?

Q. I am going today if I do it. Where I go for tattoos and piercings just moved and today for their grand opening, piercings except micro-dermals are $20.

1. I am 41 but my girls think it is cool. They have had piercings one had to take out for school and the other for work.
2. My mother will have a fit and Thanksgiving is in 2 days and all the family will be there and my hair is already black and purple...but I get lots of compliments.
3. Another concern is how bad does it hurt? My tongue did not hurt but after I could not eat or talk for 3 days. Will a Monroe do this? I don't want to miss out on Thanksgiving dinner : )
4. We will be taking family pictures, will there be a lot of swelling?
5. My dad has just been diagnosed with cancer and I don't want to upset him...he is more calm than my mom. But, nothing should surprise them with me!
6. My nose is already done.

So with my scenario's should I do this today or wait until after the holidays and pay $50 instead of $20???

Answer
I would wait until after the holidays.
Swelling on your lips will usually go down within a few days but it depends on how fast you heal.
I havnt had a monroe, but ive got a side labret and i honestly didnt even feel it.
Its only $30 extra dollars so its not a big deal.
Plus, itll still be tender so you wont be able to enjoy the food as well. I suggest waiting.

When in doubt, wait. :)

Good luck!

btw, you sound like a cool mom lol

Shoulder blade tattoos on girls: hot or not?

Amanda

Do you think shoulder tattoos look bad when you're trying to dress up? Like in a wedding or prom dress. I want one on my shoulder, but that's the one thing that's holding mw back from getting it. It woukd be like Megan Fox's on her shoulder. Different words though, of course.
I know it doesn't really look good, but does it look trashy and like totally ruin the look? Or is it just like no big deal?
If I did get one there, would tattoo concealer really work to cover it up when I do get married?
It would say happiness depends upon ourselves.
And a tramp stamp is your lower back hun.

Answer
Hard to say, because it's impossible to lump all tattoos into one category. I know a girl with a rendition of Van Gough's 'Starry Night' tattooed on her back. It cost her five thousand dollars, and is truly awesome. But the same gal, wearing some lame tattoo that was done by a bored tattooist, trying to rush her out the door so he could close early, simply can't compete. So it depends on the individual, and what kind of tattoo we're talking about. 'A tattoo', simply isn't descriptive enough to say one way or the other. Take care.

I love that idea! I got a tattoo of the taurus zodiac sign on my back last month, and love it.

I am getting my first tattoo and want to represent my kids. Need Ideas or someone to design!?

Erika W

I have a boy and a girl. I want flowers and their zodiac signs(aries and gemini). I want it on my right shoulder.

Answer
A tattoo shop should be able to listen to your idea and design you one. I'm getting 1 in 2 days and took a few ideas of what I wanted incorporated and the bloke has done a lovely picture to tattoo. It cost me £20 for his time but that then gets knocked off the price of the tattoo if you have it done. What are theire birth flowers or favourite flowers? have them intertwined with the zodia symbol in the centre of ech

Tattoo Ideas?

I just recently got the Latin phrase 'Quod me nutrit me destuit" on my side/rib area..it's done in 3 lines like so:

QUOD ME
NUTRIT ME
DESTRUIT

Now looking at it it looks a little bare and I'd like to add something to it to make it more dramatic....maybe lines going up and around it....

Any suggestions?
The translation is :"That which feeds me destroys me".
TYTY Refti..Finally an 'unretarded' answer. Do you have any links?

Answer
nice answers from the skanks there anyway, tattoo are so 80's...yeah as in the year 80AD which is when they've been around since. Fecking ignorant kids.

Ok so now I feel better, I have some latin too, it's a great language for tattoos in my opinion. It all depends what you're into, personally I have some latin around the side of my hip and that looks a little bare too, I was thinking swirling soft grey clouds with feathers whisping inside them, because it relates to the tattoo. Then again you could be into bright colourful stuff.

You could get some old school, like a dagger with a heart on it somewhere, symbolising the tattoo in a way, or you could just lend to the tattoo instead of adding to it with some watershaded pattern behind and around it, as if it's framing it, like some swirly filigree design. That would look cool in my opinion.

Pick up some tattoo magazines or have a look around inkednation.com or something for ideas, whatever you choose to do, good luck!

Upper arm tattoos on girls?

wallflower

I'm curious what people think of colorful arm tattoos on girls. I'm thinking about getting one on my upper arm...I don't have any other tattoos that are extremely visible like this and I am a very thin and feminine woman in my 20s...All opinions welcome!

Here's a drawing of the tattoo I'm thinking of getting
http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=483334661&albumID=438603&imageID=2903788
I drew it myself and it would be my 4th tattoo, but all my other tattoos can be easily concealed.

Answer
I am a girl and i have a full sleeve on one arm and an almost completed sleeve on the other! I think tattoos represent who you are. I love the drawing as well. for work you can always cover an upper arm with tattoo with sleeves. I would say its worth doing.
post your email if you would like to see the tattoos on my arms, I am also a thin feminine woman so perhaps they will give you a better idea of what they will look like on someone similar to you
i would be happy to send you a few pictures of mine

hope this helps!

Are upper arm tattoos on girls tacky / butch?

beautifull

I've got a tattoo idea that I originally would have liked on my foot, but I've incorporated too much into it and its gotten too big. Another possible place *could* be my shoulder blade, but I don't like the idea of a tattoo I can't see very well (therefor tramp stamps are out of the question). Its about 3 x 3 inches big, a memorial tattoo for my dad. Its a cancer ribbon, around a lemon with writing.

No stupid answers, please.
I'm pretty open to any other place, I'm kind of shying away from the shoulder blade.. and the belly area because I kinda plan to have kids and want to avoid any place that would stretch the most.

Answer
No, an upper arm tattoo on a female is not tacky or butch. I have one on each of my upper arms.

One is an absolutely beautiful design of a lion with a lioness resting her head on his shoulder. The detail is amazing and it represents the love that I have for my husband.

The other one is a custom designed yin/yang symbol that also incorporates Peace signs -- I feel the need to spread the Peace.

I think its a shame that people that don't like tattoos don't bother to actually ask those of us that are inked what are tattoos mean. I think the average person would have a lot more respect for tattoos if they realized the personal meanings behind them.

It shouldn't matter if you male/female, number of tattoos, or locations, everyone should be able to freely express themselves.

getting a tattoo (girl)?

Sara

im thinking about getting a tattoo on my hip. any ideas?
im 19.

Answer
hahahah....don't listen to H.P. Lovecraft. If you have a user name like Lovecraft, then you're pretty much an up-and-coming-hooker yourself. Tattoos are completely normal, and the hip is a nice place to get one.

Stars, birds, a sun, hearts and Chinese symbols are all tattoos that will rarely go wrong, but why don't you get something that has meaning? Maybe your favorite band has a symbol and you'd like to express your love for them? Maybe get suggestions from a good friend or a tattoo artist, or look through the books you find at tattoo parlors for some inspiration. Remember, though, do what feels right.

girls with tattoos?????

ashley_luv

I really want to get a tattoo but my parents say that they are gross on girls. I just want to know what other people think about them so let me know if you think they are gross or hot.
I want to get stars on the sides of my stomach
they will have meaning because i want 18 stars so 9 on each side and most will be small but the years that have the most memories the good and the bad with have be a bigger star like they year my dad died and the year i moved, and all of my little brothers birth years and nine is one of my favortie numbers

Answer
I have a tattoo on my hip.
It's a hummingbird and a flower. I love it.

I think they can be trashy if you have too many, or it's something stupid(like a cartoon character). Your idea sounds cute though =)

I wish I would have put more thought into my tattoo... I should have gotten something with a little more meaning. I still like it, but I wish it had some meaning. I want to get a quote on my wrists to inspire me.... I'm a recovering cutter, and most of the time I cut on my arms. I want to get a quote that inspires me. I will have to look at it everytime I wanna cut, so I'm hoping that it will discourage me. I also want to get angel wings on my back for my dad who died three years ago. I want them to be just greyscale and not cartoonish at all... They will form a heart in the middle and in the heart it will say "Free Bird" and have my dads initials. Free Bird because it was his favorite song, and he really is free now. If something ever happens to my grandpa I will get a fish on my foot... Fishing is his favorite thing in the world. I think that's all of my tattoos...

Good Luck! And sorry about the long answer... =)

Do you have any tattooes?

anewrachel

What are they and is there a story behind it?

Answer
Tattoos, and yes I have several of them.

My artist is Tim Maccowan of Aardvark Tattoos & Body Piercing in Saint Johns, MI. http://www.aardvarktattoos.com

At age 16 I used a needle and some India ink to put:
I (heart) Pat! on my left upper thigh/hip area. He was my boyfriend at the time. Except the tail of the 'a' later faded so now it looks like ' I (heart) Pot!' LoL Which I don't, but that just had to be the spot that faded. (I'm 32 now and still happily married to the same 'Pat' I was dating at 16).

At age 18 I did the cliche Unicorn Head on my Right hip, it still looks pretty but I've learned by now that I want original tattoos, not the flash art or cliche things like a rose, butterfly, or unicorn.

That tattoo was my first 'real' one did by an artist, and it was done in celebration of my marriage, moving away from home, and being 'grown up' now. (I was still a kid though as only age teaches you).

At age 20 something (I truly forgot the period when this one was done) I had Reverend Dark (a well known artist) do my intials on my upper Left breast. I loop my three intials together in a certain way - he traced my original signature and inked it onto my skin. He had fangs, long black hair, and spider webs inked at the corner of his eyes. I was terrified of him, yet he was the sweetest man once I got to know him. That tattoo was probably just a desire or whim of the moment inking. I know I had seen Mexican gang girls with names on their breasts and I thought it looked sexy. (I grew up in a small all white german Catholic town).

At age 32 I discovered Tim of Aardvarks Tattoos. He inked a celtic stone cross (large one!) onto the back of my neck this late May. It was for my grandmother who had just gotten seriously hurt, plus other family members. My children, husband, mother, and grandma. Plus an uncle who has a terminal disease. The cross has 4 gemstones, one at each point. Each gemstone is colored in the birthstone hue for my children, grandma, and husband. Then a yellow rose wraps up around the cross for my mom. Yellow roses are her favorite flower. The cross is for my uncle and everyone.

Then not even a month or so later (in June) I had Tim tattoo a beautiful hummingbird, purple flowers, and tribal like vine on my outter Right calf. It goes from almost my knee area to my ankle. My mother loves hummingbirds, and I figured better that then a skeleton ripping out of my skin. Might freak mom and my kids. *winks*

Annnnnnnnnd tonight, I razored a small star onto my left hand right between my pointer finger and thumb area. I then rubbed India ink into the cuts and presto, a beautiful perfect little star. This reminds me to follow my own path in life, to be true to myself and my family, and to never give up on my dreams or the future. It also reminds me how far I have come, and everything I have survived. It's one reason I did it myself.

I probably have another one that I've forgot about in my old age.

I'm going to get more of course, I'm a horrible whimp with the needles but I love the artwork once it's all said and done. I've learned that those who hate tattoos will tell you why they hate them.. what they think of tattoos on women, etc etc.. BUT I learned to ignore the negative people and just take pleasure in the many compliments and conversations strangers start up with me BECAUSE of my tattoos. *proud smile*

And for those who say 'it will look horrible when you're 80', I reply with 'so will the rest of me so who cares!' lol For those who say tattoos are somehow evil.. well, just ignore them because they have some serious mental issues and it's useless trying to convince them Satan didn't hold you down and ink your butt. hehee (No, I am not satanic.) For those who say ink is ugly on women, well those are usually the types who want a Barbie Doll perfect girlfriend so they wouldn't have liked somethign else on me or about me anyway (with or without the tattoos).

Piercings? I only my ears pierced with a 14g CBR and yes I screamed when Tim pierced them. It hurt! lol

Do tattoos look trashy on women?

Q.

Answer
To me, tattoos make a woman look cheap. Tattoos in general have criminal connotations to the general public- sorry, but I would not want a tattoo'd nurse taking care of my kids.

Guys with tattoos - did you get it for a personal reason or to be cool. How many do you have.?

Star

Answer
anybody who gets a tattoo to be cool is ridiculous. i got my tattoos at first because i am intrigued by them. then over time i found a wonderful tattoo artist who does amazing custom tattoos and i have begun collecting tattoos as art. i have had my first three tattoos covered up because they just weren't up to the standards that i realized tattoos could be. i have one tattoo on the top of each of my feet and a tattoo on my back that is slowly but surely turning into a full back piece.

HI I AM 16 YEARS OLD AND I WOULD LIKE TO GET A TATTOO BUT IDK WHAT KIND OF DESIGN TO GET.I WANT A DESIGN FOR THE FRONT SHOULDER, ONE FOR THE LOWER SECTION OF MY BELLY RIGHT ABOVE MY PRIVATES, AND ONE FOR MY WRIST. IF U HAVE ANY IDEAS OR ANY COOL DESIGNS IF YOU COULD GIVE ME THE WEBSITE OF THE DESIGN THAT WOULD BE GREAT THANKS EVERYONE!!

Answer
No one can really tell you what you should get without knowing anything about you. I'd suggest going to google or here on yahoo and just typing in things that interest you and go from there.

Being 16 (unless your parent is going with you to sign) you're not going to be able to get tattooed at a reputable shop. Take the time to really get some good designs together and make sure you get exactly what you want.

ok, its a memorial tattoo for my aunt who passed away in a car wreck about 3 years ago. i wanna get a purple and blue sparrow with a banner in its beak with her name on it but idk where i should get it at on my body.

Answer
Either the back of your shoulder (Front or Back), hip (Front or Back), or wrapped around your rib cage. Depending on your pain tolerance. The ribs hurt worse. However, you could move the tattoo down under your ribs to waist level.

Rebel flag tattoo ideas?

I'm a 19 yr old girl and I've been wanting a tattoo. I'm a country girl, redneck, hick...whatever ya wanna call it. I don't want a tramp stamp, one on my hip or leg. I would like an actual rebel flag but idk how I could make that feminine. Maybe a heart with the flag pattern, or the word skoal with the pattern(not feminine, I know but I do chew skoal). And yes, I understand completely what the flag stands for.

Answer
Lol why would you get the word skoal tattooed on you? Country girl...redneck...hick...I'm pretty sure you mean "white trash." I mean what if you switch to copenhagen someday??

Tattoos??????????????

Q. Any good ideas for tattoos?? I'm a girl btw but im up for anything lol

Answer
To the kid who said Tattoos are not attractive...I'm sorry you feel this way but most see them as art. So! That's like telling someone you think a certain painting is silly or ugly. But I'm sure she loves your input. Anyways. I like old school tattoos. Things like anchors or mermaids. Even some really nice script is pretty classy. Depending on where you want it.

Question about inner wrist tattoo?

Sofia

I want to get an anchor with two sparrows (one on each side) holding a scroll with my grandpas name on it (he was in the navy.) I want to get it on my left inner wrist, slightly below the where your wrist folds. How bad do tattoos on the wrist hurt? And also, since this would be near a major vein, are there any risks with getting this tattoo? (I know all tattoos have risks, but I mean any risks that apply to only this area on the wrist.)

Answer
Tattoos DO hurt, but they hurt in some places more than others. The wrist happens to be one of those places. The LEVEL of pain, that's all more of a subjective answer. Some people can handle tattooing their eyeballs while others can't bear the pain of scratching their finger on a cotton ball.

Ask three people about how much a tattoo hurts and you'll get three completely different answers. Some will say the pain was unbearable, some will say it hurt, but not too bad. Some will say they got orgasms from the pleasure.

In reality, it will hurt, but only as much as you want it to hurt. Don't stress yourself out when you're getting it (if this is your first), because then you're setting yourself up to go apesh!t when the artist barely turns on the gun and you hear the buzzing sound. (I did that, haha. I didn't necessarily show it but i was going crazy once i heard zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz)

ONE IMPORTANT THING: I realised what helped was DON'T TRY TO IGNORE IT! My tattoo covers my entire inner forearm, from the crook of the elbow to the wrist. So i was there for quite a while. At one point i thought to just look away and stare at the fish, ignoring it. Bad idea because there was more of a surprise to the pain every time the artist stopped to re-ink the gun.
Getting a tattoo is really a philosophical moment. I learned to just watch, slightly brace myself, and accept the pain. It was hurting, and there wasn't a thing i could do, so i accepted it. And it ended up being REAAALLY easy to handle after that.

So yeah, back to ACTUALLY answering your question (I have a tendency to rant a lot haha), the wrist is pretty sensitive. From how you describe it it's going to be partly on the wrist with some on the inner arm, where there is more muscle and fat to make it less ouchy-ful. But with any tattoo, i find that i just helps to relax and accept it. Also, talk it out with whoever your artist is! A real good artist isn't just good with ink but with people. He or She will know that youre nervous, will be a little bit more sensitive with this particular tattoo than with others, and SHOULD act appropriately. Talk to you, talk you through the process. If you need to, ask him or her for a quick break every now and then, if possible. This tattoo sounds like it'll be pretty small, so you shouldn't be under the needle for more than a few hours. Those hours will pass like days or minutes, depending on your state of mind. You don't need to be drunk or high to relax, just REEEELLLLAAAAAXXXX ;) Like i said, accept that it's going to hurt, but it shouldnt be torture unless you're really freaking out. It's the theory of relativity. Einstein said that if i were to sit with a pretty girl like you for a hour, it would seem like an minute; but if i were to sit on a hot plate for a minute, it would seem like an hour. (Alternatively if you were to sit with me for a minute, it would seem like an hour...because...im a loser and i talk too much. :( Forever Alone) Naahh just kidding ;)

So yeah, as for the risk thing, shouldnt be a problem as long as you're normal and your artist is doing it CORRECTLY. The needle barely goes into the skin, not even deep enough to reach the veins, or something like that... He's tattooing you, not etching you. Either way it shouldn't be a problem because my tattoo has a deep, dark line that actually runs right on top of the vein (pretty cool...gives it a nice 3D effect). Actually when i got my first tattoo i had a bit of a scrape that was still open, and the guy shaded right over the raw skin...that butthole. Apart from having to amputate my hand because of infections im perfectly fine. KIDDING!

Well that was enough bad jokes for one post if i do say so myself. Hope this helps you. I'm guessing this is your first or it probably is your 100th...which makes me an idiot. But oh well!!! Best of luck and remember...just take a Relax Pill... no wait..that's not it...

Do you like tattoos on women?

Renee

Not the trashy tramp stamp kind of tattoos, but the artsy kind?

Answer
I love tattoos, but only if they look classy.

Everyone has their own opinion of course.
I hate tribal tattoos. I hate colored tattoos.

If a person gets a tattoo of something that they can deeply relate to and means a lot to them I like them.

I also think that giant tattoos look stupid. Like a tree up someones back or a giant collage of random things on someones side.

what do you think of tattoos on women?

puppy.love

so i want to get an small 'infinite' tattoo on the back of my neck, and i want to know your thoughts on the situation, so here are my queries.
- what do you think of neck tattoos?
- is this a good choice?
- will i regret it?
- will it look trashy?

Answer
Tattoos aren't limited to a specific gender. There's many girls and many guys that get tattoos. Some guys love tattoos on women and some guys prefer them to not have them.

1) What do you think of neck tattoos?
I think they're cute and girly while also being cool and tough looking. If I were to get a tattoo, I would definitely get one on my neck.
2) Is this a good choice?
Only you can be the judge of that. (: If it's what you really want, you should do it! Don't worry about how others feel! It's a statement about you. :D
3) Will I regret it?
You may or may not. This girl that I used to know got a tattoo and everyone talks smack on her because she stole it off of photobucket and she regrets getting it because it's unoriginal and she gets called "fake" for it. Just make sure that the design you choose is one that has a good meaning.
4) Will it look trashy?
Not on your neck, no. It's not like you're getting a tramp stamp. :) It's just a small tattoo on your neck. That makes it pretty easy to conceal, as well.

I wish you the best in making your final decision and I hope this helped!

Would this tattoo hurt me?

emily

(i'm a girl btw) i wanna get a bird on my chest, like in the corner, kinda by my shoulder. i wanna know if this will hurt me, i'm only 15. but i can handle pain pretty well. i use to cut (which i don't anymore), i pierced my own lip like 5 times, and my nose twice. do you think i can handle it?

Answer
well in most states you cant get a tattoo til your 18 anyways so it doesnt really matter. a few states (like virginia for example) allow you to get them at 16 with parental consent

Memorial Tattoo?!?!?!?

-Mino-

So my grandmother passed away and i am wanting to get something on me in her memory. I still miss her very much. Her favorite flower was a dog wood flower. and i have two possible tattoos lined out. one being a dog wood flower with her name under it...or a cross......please help me decide. i am a female. But im not a girlie girl..i actually like the cross a whole lot and it already has a banner so it would be nice. i am wanting this to go on my leg above my ankle, but on the side. what would you go with?

this isnt the picture im going by just something so you get an idea!

heres the cross:
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j303/hotwings_25/cross.jpg
you have helped. i just get baffled on which to choose. i thought about having the dog wood with a pink tint and her name kind of curved around it.
any pretty text you can recommend?

Answer
I like the idea of the dogwood flower. Incidentally, there is some religious legend attached to the dogwood tree, particularly pink flowering dogwood (Cornus florida is the scientific name).

The legend is that Christ was crucified on a cross made of Dogwood. Christ sensed that the tree was distressed to be used in such a purpose and said to the tree: "Your blossoms shall be in the form of a cross â two long and two short petals. And in the center of the outer edge of each petal there will be nail prints, brown with rust and stained with red, and in the center of the flower will be a crown of thorns, and all who see it will remember."

I just wanted to tell you that because I think it adds kind of a sweet story to your memorial tattoo. Maybe that religious meaning can stand in the place of your cross tattoo idea. Also, I think the name banner is nice but not necessary... my memorial tattoo just has the image and I prefer it that way.

Good luck on choosing your tattoo, and I'm sorry for your loss.

i want a creative and unique tattoo, any ideas?

Q. i am an artist which means im a rather creative person.
i am into music but i already have a tattoo to do with that
i like small simple tattoos that are more of a symbol than a detailed picture.
so i kinda want something to symbolize art and my creative side

any suggestions on how i could work out a design?

Answer
Personally I have never seen a tatoo on a woman which was of a couple of tree branches with pretty birds sitting on them. I think this would be beautiful.

Tattooing over pregnancy stretch marks?

Andressa

I am 21 years old and I had a baby boy in January. I became verrrrrrry swollen while I was pregnant and therefore I have stretch marks on my hips and thighs. I plan on having a lot of tattoos. I already have 3. I have a cherry blossom branch on my side that was destroyed :/ Considering the fact that my stretch marks are moderate, I have a lot of them, and they are fairly fresh... would tattooing over them make the tattoo look bad or does it turn out alright? I would appreciate responses from only experienced artists or women who have already tattooed over thier own marks. Thanks!
I think I should let them heal as well... I'm so impatient :/ lol how long should I wait?

Answer
Congratulations on becoming a mother!!! I hope you're enjoying it. And good on you for wanting tattoos. I'm a mother too, and I'm at 24 tattoos - mostly big ones. I'm pretty covered. Haha. Be warned that other more conservative mothers will look down at you, but, you can be content in knowing that your child will learn about diversity, and being accepting of people for their differences and what makes them unique. My son is five, and he LOVES tattoos, and people with them. He knows that not all of us are deadbeats. :)

Anyway, to answer the question. A good tattoo artist won't tattoo over strechmarks untill they have healed. If you regularly use cocoa butter or shea butter based creams on your tummy, this will help them heal and fade quicker. Tattooing over stretch marks while they are still in the purple/pink stages would result in tearing and problems healing... But if you wait until they are almost the same tone as the rest of the skin on your tummy, you will be fine. It might hurt a little more than the un-stretched skin (mine did), but once healed it will turn out just as well as any other tattoo.
