Tattoos, and yes I have several of them.

At age 16 I used a needle and some India ink to put:
I (heart) Pat! on my left upper thigh/hip area. He was my boyfriend at the time. Except the tail of the 'a' later faded so now it looks like ' I (heart) Pot!' LoL Which I don't, but that just had to be the spot that faded. (I'm 32 now and still happily married to the same 'Pat' I was dating at 16).

At age 18 I did the cliche Unicorn Head on my Right hip, it still looks pretty but I've learned by now that I want original tattoos, not the flash art or cliche things like a rose, butterfly, or unicorn.

That tattoo was my first 'real' one did by an artist, and it was done in celebration of my marriage, moving away from home, and being 'grown up' now. (I was still a kid though as only age teaches you).

At age 20 something (I truly forgot the period when this one was done) I had Reverend Dark (a well known artist) do my intials on my upper Left breast. I loop my three intials together in a certain way - he traced my original signature and inked it onto my skin. He had fangs, long black hair, and spider webs inked at the corner of his eyes. I was terrified of him, yet he was the sweetest man once I got to know him. That tattoo was probably just a desire or whim of the moment inking. I know I had seen Mexican gang girls with names on their breasts and I thought it looked sexy. (I grew up in a small all white german Catholic town).

At age 32 I discovered Tim of Aardvarks Tattoos. He inked a celtic stone cross (large one!) onto the back of my neck this late May. It was for my grandmother who had just gotten seriously hurt, plus other family members. My children, husband, mother, and grandma. Plus an uncle who has a terminal disease. The cross has 4 gemstones, one at each point. Each gemstone is colored in the birthstone hue for my children, grandma, and husband. Then a yellow rose wraps up around the cross for my mom. Yellow roses are her favorite flower. The cross is for my uncle and everyone.

Then not even a month or so later (in June) I had Tim tattoo a beautiful hummingbird, purple flowers, and tribal like vine on my outter Right calf. It goes from almost my knee area to my ankle. My mother loves hummingbirds, and I figured better that then a skeleton ripping out of my skin. Might freak mom and my kids. *winks*

Annnnnnnnnd tonight, I razored a small star onto my left hand right between my pointer finger and thumb area. I then rubbed India ink into the cuts and presto, a beautiful perfect little star. This reminds me to follow my own path in life, to be true to myself and my family, and to never give up on my dreams or the future. It also reminds me how far I have come, and everything I have survived. It's one reason I did it myself.

I probably have another one that I've forgot about in my old age.

I'm going to get more of course, I'm a horrible whimp with the needles but I love the artwork once it's all said and done. I've learned that those who hate tattoos will tell you why they hate them.. what they think of tattoos on women, etc etc.. BUT I learned to ignore the negative people and just take pleasure in the many compliments and conversations strangers start up with me BECAUSE of my tattoos. *proud smile*

And for those who say 'it will look horrible when you're 80', I reply with 'so will the rest of me so who cares!' lol For those who say tattoos are somehow evil.. well, just ignore them because they have some serious mental issues and it's useless trying to convince them Satan didn't hold you down and ink your butt. hehee (No, I am not satanic.) For those who say ink is ugly on women, well those are usually the types who want a Barbie Doll perfect girlfriend so they wouldn't have liked somethign else on me or about me anyway (with or without the tattoos).

Piercings? I only my ears pierced with a 14g CBR and yes I screamed when Tim pierced them. It hurt! lol

To me, tattoos make a woman look cheap. Tattoos in general have criminal connotations to the general public- sorry, but I would not want a tattoo'd nurse taking care of my kids.

I never thought I would ever get a tattoo, but then about 2 years ago, I got one -- Winnie the Pooh shaking hands with Pink Floyd's man on fire. Has anyone else changed his/her mind about getting a tattoo?

I've been around heavily tattooed people and in tattoo shops since I was a little kid. I always thought I'd get one as soon as I turned 18 but I'm going on 20 and I'm the only one among my friends who doesn't have one! I still want one but tattoos aren't really that exciting to me so I'm not really in a rush.

What would you do if your child came home from college with a tattoo?

I am 19 years old and I am going to get a tattoo soon. I really want it to run along my spine starting at my collar line and run down to just below my underwear band. What would you do if your child came home from college with a tattoo?

I think the question you really want an answer to is, What will your parents do? People on Yahoo can't answer that question. You can usually get an idea to that answer by feeling your parents out in a conversation. Casually, tell them about a friend, who recently got a tatoo, that you think looks cool and see what they say. Or go with somebody, that you heard is getting a tatoo and tell your parents about the experience, as a passing story. Sort of work it into the conversation smoothly. They will probably ask you if you are thinking about getting a tatoo and you can Say, "maybe, someday, I've thought about it". Their reaction will tell you what they will do, before you actually get the tatoo. Both of my older kids got tatoos. I'm not real happy about their decisions, but I never gave them a hard time about it. The only reason it bothered me, was the fact that they got them in places where it's hard to cover up (forearms for my son and upper back for my daughter). You have to think about your future and how your artwork will look during an interview. Tatoos on the neck, hands and lower arms, aren't the greatest places for professionals to have. For a woman the upper back isn't always the greatest if they have to wear a nice dress for some function. When you are young, you don't usually think of yourself as having a job where you have to look really sharp and professional. Maybe you will never have a job like that, but you should always look your best in a job interview, even if the job doesn't require much contact with the public. It doesn't mean your tatoos will keep you from getting a good job, but why affect your chances when you can get tatoos in so many places. You don't have to break certain lines, such as the collar line or the short sleeve shirt line. These are things that parents think about. My younger son will want one some day. I tell him to wear a short sleeve dress shirt or a nice polo shirt to the tatoo place. When they apply the stencil transfer, you can see if the tatoo will stick out, then you can get it somewhere else. That's all I ask. He understands this. His half brother regrets his tatoo that goes up to the back of his neck. He can tell when he goes to interviews, that people keep looking at it. I'm glad my younger boy understands this fact.

Why do women expect men to shave every ounce of hair off their entire body?

Q. i mean seriously women want us guys to shave our mustache, beard, chest, legs, heck even our pubic area. the only hair women like on guys is the hair on their head. i mean come on ladies don't you think you're taking it to far?

there are still plenty of women that like hair on men. At least women over 30 or so.

If I had to shave everything by the time I got finished I'd have to start all over where I began. Got hair everywhere but my forehead, palms, and soles of my feet. Unfortunately, as has been mentioned, being that way is not as popular as it used to be. But Sean Connery still gets away with it. Always did. And I think he's never had much trouble getting laid. Me neither.

In fairness, I don't care if women shave anything either. Actually prefer that they don't.

This new hair is gross crap is rooted in capitalism. No money to be made off of people that are content to be the way they were made. Had to ride the bus home the other day, and jesus, it was an eye-opener. Mexican kids with foot high cockatoo do's, black girls with multicolored, braided, two hundred dollar medusa-like tangles of greasy strings, white suburban punks with those ridiculous three inch long cones sticking through their ears. Bull rings in their snoots. Pierced this, pierced that. Tattoos everwhere that look like they were done with knitting needles and prune juice. Now we're supposed to get rid of all the hair that's not on our heads.

Culturally manipulated twits. The lot. And any woman that expects a guy to shave everything deserves the sort of spineless pushover that would accomodate her.

I'm going to be a high school teacher and I super conscious of where my tattoos go. I like tattoos very much be feel afraid of society's reactions.
My husband does tattoos so hopefully you get the idea of my joy of tattoos.

Haha, if I didn't know better it could have been me asking this very question! I'm currently doing a degree in history and am hoping to take a PGCE (I'm in the UK) and go into secondary history teaching. And I have the very same issue. After a lot of deliberation I eventually moved onto my upper arms, but I do feel nervous that I'm always going to have to wear half length sleeves or longer, I'm not good with heat! (fortunately that doesn't come about so much in England, and the hottest period of the year is holiday anyway!). But I'm desperate to go onto my lower arms, I don't feel my arms are close to complete yet, but I'm only 21 and worry at this age that I might be making a mistake about deciding for myself to always wear long sleeves for the next four decades or more of my life. So I'm going to wait until I'm in the job and then make my decision.

Anyway sorry I'm rambling without answering your question. Personally, obviously, I have zero problem with tattoos on teachers. I also think you'll find that you won't lose any respect from the children; if anything (if you're talking about secondary teaching) you're more likely to gain respect from them. When a teacher at my school would let slip that he or she had a hidden tattoo somewhere we saw it as the coolest thing. I think to kids it turns you into more of a human and less of an ogre. There might be the occasional student who takes this to mean you don't have the same level of authority, but I think that attitude would be well into the minority and nothing that the correct discipline couldn't see to.

I think the biggest problem is the parents and the school itself. I tried to do a bit of research before moving onto my arms as to attitudes schools take to teachers with *visible* tattoos. Most of the people I spoke to (generally teachers) said their school either forbids visible ink all together, or allows it on a discretionary basis as long as it's relatively subtle and not a full sleeve or throat tattoo or anything too in your face. I've yet to come across a school that allows its teachers to display all and any amount of ink freely, but this is in England, attitudes could well vary all over the world, they might even vary within this country, I've only researched probably within a 50 mile radius. The work I'd be having on my forearms would be more than a subtle little thing so this is why I'm leaving it for now. But I spoke to a couple of teachers I know, husband and wife, one has one full sleeve and the other has both arms fully sleeved. They simply wear long sleeves, and say it's never been a problem for them. The woman simply wears loose fitting thin material when it's very warm.

So I think as long as your tattoos have the ability to be hidden (ie anywhere other than hands, neck and face) then you won't have any problem as long as you're willing to wear the clothing to cover them, if you do end up working for a school who will not allow it. Nobody has to know about your hidden tattoos at the end of the day!
