It depends on the girl, the tattoo, your on preferences, and how it's worn. It really depends on the individual. I personally have a problem with poorly-done tattoos, and tattoos that everyone has-- like nautical stars, hearts, and cherries. Mine is being created by me, so it's unique :) Go for it-- just make sure you're gonna love that ink for a long time!

Killer makin his way across AMERICA! Everyone read, Expecially the women!?

Q. Ok theres a guy maikin his way across america. he goes by the name of Jokerkid69, he gets onto peoples msn, aol. and yahoo acounts and finds info about young ladies. I want to strongly caution of of the ladies out there to beware of anyone that they come across with this name. The man has a large scar over his left eye. and a tattoo of a joker skull on his neck. around 6'2 with dark brown hair. If ANY of you ladies see anyone that fits this description creeping around your neighborhood, PLEASE!! LOCK YOUR DOORS!! & call the POLICE! The last wearabouts of Jokerkid69 were in the TEXAS AREA! and the first spotting was in Tennessee. He is making his way across america and i only hope that this info can save lots of womens lives. That seems to be one of the least plausible aspects of this story. I have never had tattoos, but I have heard that it is quite painful. Could someone stay asleep while getting face tattoos?

I saw that on the news the other day and I personally think it's a bunch of crap! There is no way that girl "fell asleep" while getting a face tattoo. If she did not feel pain during those tattoos, I'd sure like to know what she was on. And three stars wouldn't even take long enough to fall asleep. It is highly unlikely that that the tattoo artist would risk his career and randomly tattoo 56 stars on her face. They know the consequences and take that stuff very seriously. I don't believe that foolish girl for one second.

What is your experience with tattoos after pregnancy?

Q. Both my friend and I are considering tattoos on the sides of our stomach and up the side of our chests. But we are concerned about what happens to the tat both during and after pregnancy. Its obviously going to stretch but what will it look like after the weight loss?
Will it be something easily corrected with a touch up from the tattoo artist?

It really depends on the elasticity of your skin. Every woman is different. Some women don't get any stretchmarks on their belly during pregnancy, however, some women get them from their pelvic area all the way above their belly button. I would say it is a huge risk if you don't know how your skin will appear after having a baby. I would take a look at your mom's stomach to see what the texture is like... it doesn't necessarily mean your skin will be the same as hers, but you will at least get a good idea. Also, if you have sister(s) that have had children, take a look at their bellies as well. One thing to keep in mind... if you get the tattoo and then you become pregnant later on in life and your belly is covered in stretchmarks, you will probably want to keep it hidden anyway... so no one will even notice whether or not your tattoo has "altered" it's shape or appearance. As far as an artist doing a "touch-up"... that won't be easy, because stretch marks are basically scars, and it is difficult to tattoo over scars and have it appear consistent with skin that isn't scarred.

Time.A woman may also seek counselling should she want to.Losing a pregnancy is hard,and like any loss it has to be mourned.As there is no set time period for grief or how long the process will last,then time is the only thing that will help.Some women find a 'funeral' helps them to move on.Release some balloons with the name of your child on (it doesn't matter if you knew the sex,go with your gut on whether it was a boy or girl and use the name they would have be given).Several of my friends have had miscarriages and many of them have a tattoo to commemorate their lost baby.One of them also has a charm bracelet with charms representing her children,including a star to represent the one she lost.Perhaps something like that would help.One of them buys a card at Christmas and on her due date to put in her memory box about her daughter (but she was a still birth).It's also normal and OK to get weepy around the time you would have given birth.Surround yourself with people who love you and talk,talk,talk - it really does help.Wishing you all the best

I'm doing some research for a tattoo. I have in memory of my grams, I'm adding to it now for my mother.

She was an incredibly strong, independent woman and I want something to show that. The only thing I can think of that really reminds me of her is the Virgin Mary, but I'm not putting that on my body for many reasons.

I'm just looking to see what othe people have so I could maybe have some inspiration for when I have a meeting with my artist. I'm not looking to copy and I have full intentions of having an original piece of art (this is my 6th one) I'm just blocked and need a little inspiration out side of the japanese symbols that keep poping up.

I probably do not fit into the preconceived notion of a ârebelâ. I have no visible tattoos and minimal piercing. I do not possess a leather jacket. In fact, when most people look at me, their first thought usually is something along the lines of âoppressed female.â The brave individuals who have mustered the courage to ask me about the way I dress usually have questions like: âDo your parents make you wear that?â or âDonât you find that really unfair?â

A while back, a couple of girls in Montreal were kicked out of school for dressing like I do. It seems strange that a little piece of cloth would make for such controversy. Perhaps the fear is that I am harboring an Uzi underneath it! Of course, the issue at hand is more than a mere piece of cloth. I am a Muslim woman who, like millions of other Muslim women across the globe, chooses to wear the hijab. When I cover myself, I make it virtually impossible for people to judge me according to the way I look. I cannot be categorized because of my attractiveness or lack thereof.

Compare this to life in todayâs society: We are constantly sizing one another up on the basis of our clothing, jewelry, hair and makeup. What kind of depth can there be in a world like this? Yes, I have a body, a physical manifestation upon this Earth. But it is the vessel of an intelligent mind and a strong spirit. It is not for the beholder to leer at or to use in advertisements to sell everything from beer to cars!

Because of the superficiality of the world in which we live, external appearances are so stressed that the value of the individual counts for almost nothing. It is a myth that women in todayâs society are liberated! What kind of freedom can there be when a woman can not walk down the street without every aspect of her physical self being âchecked outâ?

When I wear the hijab I feel safe from all of this. I can rest assured that no one is looking at me and making assumptions about my character from the length of my skirt. There is a barrier between me and those who would exploit me. I am first and foremost a human being, equal to any man, and not vulnerable because of my sexuality.

One of the saddest truths of our time is the question of the beauty myth and female self-image. Reading popular teenage magazines, you can instantly find out what kind of body image is âinâ or âout.â and if you have the âwrongâ body type, well, then, youâre just going to have to change it, arenât you? After all, there is no way that you can be overweight and still be beautiful.

Look at any advertisement. Is a woman being used to sell the product? How old is she? How attractive is she? What is she wearing? More often than not, that woman will be no older than her early 20s, taller, slimmer and more attractive than average, dressed in skimpy clothing. Why do we allow ourselves to be manipulated like this?

Whether the 90s woman wishes to believe it or not, she is being forced into a mold. She is being coerced into selling herself, into compromising herself. This is why we have 13-year-old girls sticking their fingers down their throats and overweight adolescents hanging themselves.

When people ask me if I feel oppressed, I can honestly say no. I made this decision out of my own free will. I like the fact that I am taking control of the way other people perceive me. I enjoy the fact that I donât give anyone anything to look at and that I have released myself from the bondage of the swinging pendulum of the fashion industry and other institutions that exploit females.

My body is my own business. Nobody can tell me how I should look or whether or not I am beautiful. I know that there is more to me than that. I am also able to say ânoâ comfortably then people ask me if I feel as though my sexuality is being repressed. I have taken control of my sexuality. I am thankful I will never have to suffer the fate of trying to lose/gain weight or trying to find the exact lipstick shade that will go with my skin color. I have made choices about what my priorities are and these are not among them.

So next time you see me, donât look at me sympathetically. I am not under duress or a male-worshipping female captive from those barbarous Arabic deserts! Iâve been liberated.

The design would be silhouettes of crows flying and it would start bigger and the shoulder blades and get gradually smaller.

One of my friends has the "Your name" tattoo on his butt.His mom has a rose tattooed on her right breast and shows it to anybody who asks to see it.Not just the tattoo but the whole breast.The tackiest however.One of my coworkers has a vagina tattoo on his neck.He has to wear turtlenecks when we have company visit the plant so he doesnt offend anyone.

I was trying to eat lunch at work. However, these cackling women were talking to each other about nothing, and they got louder and louder, shrieking and laughing like hyenas. It was unreal. I had to leave.

At that point, I thought that maybe feminists have more serious conversations in a normal tone of voice? The subject matter might be heavy, but I could tolerate that if they are just droning on and not mindlessly making noise.

I don't know if they do or not, but I can tell you I'm not the type to purposefully draw attention to myself in the ways you just mentioned. I have a friend who is like that, though...and it's embarrassing (often!) to be out in public with her. Especially if she has any alcohol in her...look out! She's showing everyone the tattoo on her breast, talking loud enough for the dead to hear, laughing like a hyena, etc...she's a great friend, and fun to be with, but let me tell ya, there have been moments when she's made me want to melt right into the floor. One time, we went out on my birthday and had a bit to drink at one of the local taverns...it was karaoke night. She got a bit "tipsy" and decided to sing me a song. She called everyone's attention to the fact that it was my birthday (embarrassing enough for me), and then drunkenly (and loudly) sang the song dedicated to me: It was Bette Midler's "The Rose".... I've never wanted to disappear so badly in all my life...lol!

This question is for women only. Have any women had reconstruction surgery after a mastectomy?

I am facing the choice of reconstruction surgery and have heard good and bad reports about this surgery. I would like to hear from other women or men that have wives who have had this surgery. Please explain your results and any complications.

I had reconstruction after I was done with chemo and radiation.
I chose to have a diep flap done, but since my tummy was so small , and my original breasts were so big, I also had to have a saline implant put in. This surgery consists of the plastic surgeon removing the fat and skin and a large blood vessel from your belly button down to you pubic area. They take this flap and attach the blood vessel and then attach the rest. There is a 4-5 day hospital stay after this surgery. You will feel like a truck hit you but it does get better.
Keep in mind that the reconstructed breasts are not going to look exactly like the original ones. Bras and shirts will fit a little different, and you will not have any feeling in the breast.
You can also get implants put in. You will first have to have stretchers put in and then they will insert the implant. This is a personal decision and it's not an easy one to make. I am glad that I did it, it made me feel more complete. After reconstruction you will have to decide if you want a nipple. I have had this surgery, but in most women as with mine it usually shrinks up to nothing. If you want the color tattooed on they can do that also, but that usually fades to nothing.
I did have to have 8 surgeries to have my reconstruction completed. You will leave the hospital with drains in which you have probably had after your mastectomy. It is about 8-10 weeks recovery.
I am pretty happy with the results.

Hip? I think it'd be fine. Just don't get it in your belly and don't use pregnancy as an excuse to heavily overeat lol. You should get plenty of nutrition but some women go overboard and get really really fat.

I say don't get one at all...the ink in tattoos tend to bleed a lot easier and a lot faster on fingers than anywhere else. So whatever cute little design you get now will more than likely end up looking like a blob of ink a few years from now, or looking like you've been wearing fake jewelry. But I say on the side of your finger.

With tattoos you want to first talk have an idea of what YOU like. Flowers and butterflies are nice and girly, stars and space is cool. If it doesn't mean anything to you, it won't be special.
I think the best body tattoos should be done with the contours of our body. backgrounds can be done free hand, or should be sketched on paper over the body. A good tattoo artist will work with your body to accent you and your tattoo.

Loaded question. Most artists charge around $150/hr, but will normally quote you on a piece. I've got two tattoos that cost me $150 and took 4-5 hrs (including breaks, etc.) and one that cost $350 (and took about the same amount of time). All depends on the artist and what you want to do. Straight American Traditional, no shading....who knows, but probably would take 2-3 hours tattoo time, depending on the design.

Shading and detail take a long time and a good artist, but not every artist can do a good American traditional tattoo like the mermaid. Find out what artist(s) specialize in what techniques in your area.

Ribs reputedly hurt a bit more than other areas, but I will say my calf burned like white hot coals as opposed to my shoulder/bicep area. Calves are far from you heart, so much more difficult in healing.

I don't actually feel that if it's 'closer to the bone' it hurts more. Sure, the foot and the ribs are a painful spot (I have both done), but the back of my thighs hurt the worst, and i'm not the skinniest girl in the world.

Hurting the least? Generally your arms, or areas where there tends to be more muscle.

Anyway, without knowing you or your interests or other aesthetics, it's difficult to feel like I'm recommending anything useful to you, but here's the ideas I had. When I thought about it I saw perhaps something growing, fractal-esque or plantlike even, unfurling from the top of the corset. Perhaps even something organic but geometric and chaotic. I just feels like bows or hearts or something of that sort would take away from the interesting work you already have done, and it sounds like you want something to enhance it.

My recommendation would be to consult an artistic friend, or even better find a tattoo artist you trust and whose portfolio you like, and have him/her conceptualize something for/with you. That way you can more easily have a dialogue of ideas and truly create something that would be perfect for you.

I'm getting a tattoo in July, and I've been reading about tattoos to make sure it is safe. And I keep seeing these articles about how women with tattoos are "disgusting". How can a beautiful women with a nice feminine tattoo be disgusting? Why can men get sleeves, but if a woman gets a some-what large tattoo its considered terrible?

I`m old fashioned and prefer women with no tattoos. To me it`s advertising to be in a lower class, especially the body tattoos that are very visible no matter how they dress. I don`t look down on people with tattoos, I just prefer their natural self. To each their own and freedom to all.

I have a large dragon (coming out of some clouds) on my right upper arm. I got it about 10 years ago when I was younger and now I have been feeling self concious about it. It covers almost all of my upper arm. I have thought about removing it but that would cost thousands of dollars that I do not have and it would leave a large scar. Do you think I should leave it? I do recieve a lot of complements on it but I still feel that it draws attention away from the rest of me.
