Do girls like Koi fish tattoos?

Brandon

What are your opinions on them? I'm a quarter japanese and I really like the meaning behind the koi. I want the tattoo on my left tricep to match my right tricep tattoo. It'll be black and white but the water around it will be blue.

Answer
Dude, I think koi fish are so beautiful as well as tattoos of them. :P
Like this one :D http://www.tattooset.com/tattoo/3718-side-wrap-around-koi-fish

http://blogs.sltrib.com/vulture/uploaded_images/400_mcorkrey_kwinter_090306_85269392-776885.jpg

i like it to be japanese styled.
i like everything japanese, like fans, geshia girls, the music, japanese characters, samurais, dragons, flowers, koi (carp)

i just don't know how to have everything on my arm for a half sleeve tattoo. any ideas?????? thanks so much!! i want to make a good decision!

Answer
I strongly wouldn't recommend it due to the fact that it it has ties with the yakuza. I will however tell you to get the following designs: 1. Koi fish (most popular unisex tattoo); 2. Cherry Blossoms/any other flowers (also unisex, but most commonly worn by men); 3. Kanji/Haringa (not one of the best choices, but wildly common).

What do you think of koi fish tattoos on girls?

Delle

Answer
It depends on where you have them. Tattoos on girls can look either trashy or sexy. It depends where you have them and what you have. I've seen some amazing koi tattoos, but I prefer dragons/ serpants on girls!
Actually the sexiest tattoo on a girl I have ever seen in my life was a girl who had the old "Death Before Dishonor" tattoo on shoulder blade, christ on a bike she was sex on legs!! (look up death before dishonor - the original one) Damn, I just looked and it seems everyone has the thing now... Stick to the Koi or go with a dragon!

Koi fish tattoo help? :C?

Rose

hey i found this image of a girls back with a tattoo of three koi fish swimming from her right shoulder to a lower part of her back diagnolly. but like an idiot i didnt save the page or image :C i really wanted to get this as a tattoo for myself. the koi fish werent any fancy colors, but it was a really nice simple design, the fish didnt take up her whole back at all. i believe there were two small lotus flowers in the tattoo design as well? can anyone help me find it again? i had deleted my history after looking at it so i cant seem to figure out what keywords i had used D: but i remeber what it sort of looked like, and that i had found it in google images. can anyone help? ive literally been searching for over 4 hours now ;w;

Answer
Don't worry, it is a classic in the Japanese tattoo tradition. Any Japanese tattoo style artist can do it. The only problem is there aren't any in Wisconsin. If you can travel, email me and I will recommend one.

I have a koi fish and cherry blossoms on my right arm, and two butterflys on my left calf. Would American Eagle Outfitters still hire me? Or would do I have to cover my arms or what? I need a job, and I think I would be perfect for it.
I'm sixteen, btw.

Answer
It depends! I have seen some girls with tattoo's at american eagle but never big ones on their arms or anything like that. I would put my resume in there anyways and see what happens :) if you dont get the job then your just in the same place you started out!

Ideas for tattoo meaning strength and overcoming odds?

metal_mani

I'm adding to my tattoos and have hit a block. I'm looking to do either a half sleeve or at least a good portion of the upper arm. I like the symbolism of koi fish, the overcoming odds and strength but, i want some other ideas than just the fish because i already have one. Any ideas how to capture the same idea?

What does the koi fish symbolize?

Im trying to find out what the Koi fish symbolize when people get them for tattoos.

Answer
According to Japanese legend if a koi succeeded in climbing the falls at a point called Dragon Gate on the Yellow River it would be transformed into a dragon. Based on that legend, it became a symbol of worldly aspiration and advancement.

More generally, the Japanese associate koi (also known as carp) with perserverance in adversity and strength of purpose. Because of its strength and determination to overcome obstacles, it stands for courage and the ability to attain high goals.

Others say it means good fortune or luck.

More input:

The Koi Fish is symbolic in the Buddhist Religion, representing courage. Humans 'swim' through the 'ocean of suffering' without fear, just like a fish swims through water.

The Koi is symbolic with family. On Childrens Day Koi flags are raised, Black Koi the father, Orange/Red mother, Blue/White for a boy, red/pink for a girl.

"There is another word to describe "love" which is "koi". The kanji character for "kokoro (heart)" is included as part of both kanji characters. Both "ai" and "koi" are probably translated as "love" in English. However, they have slightly different nuance: "Koi" is a love for the opposite sex, or a longing feeling for a specific person. It can be described as "romantic love" or "passionate love". While "ai" has the same meaning as "koi," it also has a definition of a general feeling of love. "Koi" can be selfish, but "ai" is a real love. Here are some lines that explain them well: Koi is always wanting. Ai is always giving."

A koi tattoo is supposed to represent different things it just depends on the color and the amount of them and the direction they are swimming in the stream. 5 golden koi is supposed to represent eternal wealth and well being.

In general Koi are associated with good luck, plain and simple. The colors and size doesn't mean anything.

How do young Japanese (in Tokyo) feel about tattoos?

willnyu198

I have the back of both of my legs covered. One tattoo is a Japanese design, a koi fish turning into a dragon, which is big and the other is Atlas, holding a globe. I'm a 24 year old white guy from California, so I'm obviously not a Yakuza, but still understand the taboo in Japan. What is the general opinion of the Japan's younger generation (25 and under) towards tattoos? I know overall they are still looked upon negatively, but it seems like younger people are more open and accepting. I want to live there eventually, but don't know if it will cause me problems. Since they are in an area that's easy to cover, I don't think it will be a huge issue, but I'm still concerned. I'm a corporate, business type, so I always dress nice, am very courteous and don't look like trouble. I know there are tattoo shops in Japan, so there must be a certain level of acceptance.

Answer
When Japanese Univ students, particularly girls, reached 21-23 years old (the age they graduate), they go to plastic surgery to erase their tattoo to get better job.

And small tattoo stickers are also popular in Japan.
http://www.ta2.com/tribal/
http://www.arkin.jp/

These are the reason why the absolute amount of tattooed people don't increase in Japan.

Go to establishment with your friend. I think you have no big trouble, maybe some.
But remember, when you were in Japan, the country is NOT the West. You can't judge with your American's standard.
And you should know that they don't look negatively, but they do NOT want see tattoo (do you understand this feeling?). Whether you are Yakuza or not doesn't matter.
Japanese people focus on how other people think and want in public place, rather than focusing on personal (individual) feeling. They are afraid of being a person "lack in common sense".

All the reports in English are written by westerners. Their feeling differ from Orientals. When you came to Japan, ask Japanese directly, not only younger but also elder people. They may not tell you honest feeling though.

Does anyone know any twin symbols or good pieces signs to tattoo?

Daniel

Me and my twin sister want to get twin tattoos. We're pieces but shes a girl and im not... so i want to know if anyone knows any good tattoo ideas that could work for moth her and me ? Thanks!

Answer
The astrological zodiac sign is spelled "Pisces" - I hope that's what you meant, otherwise you are both falling apart into pieces. The symbol looks like this: â so that would work well:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pisces_(astrology)

or you could get a quality tattoo artist to design a couple of fish swimming around eachother:
http://loiaconos.deviantart.com/art/Koi-Fish-Tattoo-287731648

Find out the origin of your last name (surname) and get something representing that. For example, Smith comes from blacksmith so you could both get a horseshoe, which is also a lucky symbol. Jones comes from the biblical figure of John, who is symbolized by an Eagle in Christian art, so you could both get an eagle.
