Me

I am trying to decide where to put my next tattoo. I have a clover tattoo just above my right ankle bone, a shooting star tattoo on my right shoulder and I'm trying to decide where to put my next tattoo which is going to say "Don't stop believein." I am wondering where a sexy place to put it would be which is why I would like to see females with tattoos only to give myself a better idea of where I would like my next tattoo.

what is the best way to train to become a tattoo apprentice?

Cassidy

I'm a 15 year old girl. I've been thinking a lot about future careers and such because this is when teachers start talking about it. I first got the idea when a few friends told me they thought I'd be really good at it, and I was sort of like "oh haha yeah alright" because I wasn't really thinking about anything at that point. But now, becoming a tattoo artist has been one of the few potential careers that I feel like I could really get into. I love art and I'm taking two school art classes next semester, and another at a local art gallery, where I volunteer regularly (they're actually letting me take the class free of charge!) I've taken a few college level/portfolio prep courses and I really love everything I've been learning.

I read about getting an apprenticeship and I've been thinking a lot about it, and my mom would support me in whatever I choose. I know there's like a 99% possibility I'm not going to be getting one right now (because I'm 15 with no practical experience ahhh see) but I was just wondering what would be the best course of action to get started? I don't plan on staying in the area I live in now for college and afterwards so I'm less concerned with cementing a spot in a particular shop and more with enhancing my ability so I will stand out, and learning as much about the craft as I can.

I was also wondering about those beginners kits they sell? I know you're not supposed to do them on people (because that's really unsanitary and I have no experience other than giving my friends tattoos with Sharpies and stuff) but is there a way I could get one and do it on another medium to practice?

And finally what are the odds of getting an apprenticeship as early as possible/when should I actually go to a tattoo parlor and sort of not leave until they let me do something? Do I have to have tattoos before I get an apprenticeship, because I don't really want to get tattoos at this point (maybe like in college or whatever but I want to start as soon as possible?? can I start before/during college or is that a bad idea?) ANYWAY any help in any way, shape, or form would be so super appreciated because I have absolutely no idea what I am doing, but am very interested in learning!! Sorry if this is rambling. THANKS

Answer
It's good that you're getting into this early on! As for the job go to a tattoo collage or a collage with a program for it. (They do exist)

Now a days you need tons of qualification for these jobs, don't expect to get hired until a few years into college. You don't need to have tats to work there though :p

Try practicing on meat like pig shoulder, my friends mum is very religious but has been a tattoo artist for over thirty years. The more exp you have the better you'll look to a major franchise. Look into your state/provinces laws on tattooing and look for schools with your career in mind.
