Is it weird to have your niece/nephew name tattooed on yourself?

Babyy Girl

I'm an 18 year old girl and I want a tattoo of my oldest niece name on my inner wrist. I'm an aunt of 13 kids (9 boys & 4 girls) ,but most of nieces/nephews don't know me .

Me and my 4 yr old niece are very attached and I love her to death like she's my own daughter.
This will be my first tattoo

Answer
Take the money you would have spent on a tattoo and spend the day with your neice making good memories. Go to a zoo or amusment park - something you can do together.

If you want a tattoo later in life you can get your own childs name. Keep i mind that visible tattoos like on the wrist can really cause employment problems.

Is this tattoo too manly for a girl?

Ashley

For my birthday I plan on getting a third tattoo and I already have a scorpion on my inner wrist (Scorpio star sign) and a Sun,Moon,Star tattoo on my upper right arm (Because I love both astronomy and astrology) and for my third one I was thinking of maybe getting a Black Widow on the top of my right foot or maybe on the back of my neck since I have long hair and can hide it if needed. My B-Day is still almost 3 months off but I like to plan my tattoo ideas well. BTW I am 25 and know what I am doing and yes it has a meaning. My dad died 4 years ago and he had a Black widow tat on his left hand and I would like to get one as well as a memory. So I was thinking maybe about this one located below or would it be too manly?

I'm a 17 year old girl, my mother passed away 2 months ago, she was my hero and i miss her a lot.

I've been thinking about getting a tattoo in memory of her. I was thinking maybe a bible verse. Any bible verses that could maybe be appropriate? Or a symbol?

I came across Philippians 1v3 "I praise the lord in remembrance of you.

Any ideas?

Answer
First of all, I'm sorry for your loss. This is something I recommend you really think about and take your time. It's completely understandable that you want to do something in memory of your mother but a tattoo is a huge decision. You want to make sure that you will find a design that you will love for the rest of your life and will be perfect for honoring your mother. What you can do is just sit down and write out things that your mother loved or things and represented her. What was her favorite flower? birth flower? animal? song? color? did she have a favorite saying that she would always tell you growing up? what were her hobbies and passions? You're bound to find something there. You have plenty of time to work on and play around w/ designs and ideas. My husband lost his mother at the age of 12 and he got a tattoo for her when he was 24. Good luck and again I'm sorry.

What do you think of a guys/girls with a tattoo?

Have you a tattoo or not?

BQ: If a girl were to get a tattoo of a deceased relative, a close relative, on her back, would it still be seen as trashy? Just something to commemorate the memory of someone she lost, nothing to add to her sex appeal.

Answer
I think tattoos on women are often sexy if done right. Now, I'm not exactly up to date on my inking subculture and I couldn't tell you, specifically, what tattooing 'done right' looks like. I just know it when I see it.

I have no tattoos. Not that I am against having them. I just realize they are permanent and I fear I will regret my tattoo choice 10 years from now.

BQ: I don't think that's trashy. People commemorate their beloved, but now deceased, relatives in many ways. Tattooing is just one way. I named my daughter after my beloved, but now deceased, grandmother. Some people may think it's morbid. I think it's a gift to both the memory of my grandmother and to my daughter. Maybe people feel similarly about tattooing in rememberance of ones they loved.

What do you do to hold onto the memory of your baby who has died?

Aidan Lees

There are many things a parent can do to honor their baby who has died. No matter the cause- miscarriage, stillbirth, SIDS, health issues, or otherwise- the impact this tiny person has on your heart and on your life will stay with you forever. There is no "getting over" the death of your child.

As bereaved parents many of us do specific things to honor our children's memory: planting a tree or flowers, donating momentos to your local hospital for newly bereaved parents, donating books for your library on grief and loss, or even voluteering your time at a local children's shelter...

There is no "guide book" to follow after you lose a much wanted and very loved baby, there are no "rules" for grief- no right or wrong in how you honor the child who has passed away.

Please share with us your thoughts and ideas- you may be able to help a parent who has had their heart broken and dreams shattered by this devastating loss.

What do you do to honor your baby who has died?

Answer
I have a special shelf with my baby girl's picture, a few little stuffed animals that were to be hers, the prayer card and crosses from her funeral, other little trinkets, and a pink birthday candle that my son and I light then blow out (after we tell her "Happy Birthday") every year on the day of her birth/death day.
Since my daughter was born with severe birth defects, I have made a few small donations to the March of Dimes. I also wear a March of Dimes Saving Babies wristband.
I have a tattoo on my back of her name in a heart.
I added her name to a few online baby memorial walls.
I don't live in the state where she is buried, but when I did, I would visit her grave, take flowers, and talk to her.
She is forever in my heart. A parent does not get over losing a child, but you can get through it, by doing whatever it takes.

People get all kinds of tattoos, I myself want to get a tattoo and have been brainstorming a lot so I was curious what some of you had to say about how you got your tattoo/tattoos.

Answer
I got my first tattoo when I was fifteen, it is a rose with two names. I got it in memory of a little girl whom I adored, and also my brother, who both passed away three days apart. I regret getting this tattoo because I was young and naive and headstrong. i didn't research the artist and didnt even know that it was illegal. The result is a tattoo that is quite poorly done. I am still attached to it for the reasons aforementioned though. Then I began a tattooing apprenticeship and my whole world opened to art and the myriad of possibilities available in tattooing. I got a tattoo that represented myself and my beliefs. Then I got a handprint of the little girl who passed. I placed two doves on my chest with the words "Flight and Fall, In Deo Speramus (In God we trust)." I also added a half sleeve, which you can see on my profile picture is of a blue buddha. He is my artistic interpretation of the Boddhisattva Avalokiteshvara, who is the buddha-to-be of mercy and compassion. Through his crown are the initials of my eight siblings (in elegant ancient mayan). This was my way of carrying the people I love with me for all eternity. I recently added chess pieces to my foot in memory of my dad, which you can view below if you wish. All of my tattoo's I chose because they are things I am proud to carry with me for my entire life. They run deeper than a phase, or a passion. They are part of my inner self, that through a very talented artist (my boss) I was able to apply to my outer self as well. A lot of people regret their tattoo's and as someone who works in the industry it saddens me greatly. If people take more time to decide on their artwork and THOROUGHLY research their tattoo artist' ability prior to wearing the artwork for life, their will be a lot less remorse over poorly made decisions. Also I have found that people focus far too much on cost instead of quality. Best of luck with your choice, please keep us posted. :-)
