Should i read the girl with the dragon tattoo or the hunger games?

Shell Bell

Both sound good but which might be better??

Answer
It's funny, in my attempt to read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo I ended up reading the Hunger Games (my friend had both series and couldn't find any of her books after she moved, I went over to help her look because she was taking forever, we didn't find what I was looking for so she sent me home with The Hunger Games)
I really enjoyed it, the first book is a little strange in it's set up, all of the drama and excitement in the first half is at the beginning, so then it seems really dull for a bit, but once that games start the rest of the series keeps that momentum, with a few short-ish exception spots, that are necessary for the plot. It's a YA series so I it was simply written and easy to read quickly. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is next on my list, I would guess that the first book alone in that series has more words than all three of the Hunger Games books. So, if I were you, I would read that first, it's a good series that you'll probably finish quickly, then move on to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
Hope this helped!
EDIT
Just wanted to add that after reading these responses, I can't wait to read the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo! But I stand by my answer, read the shorter, easier one first.

Should I read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo?

Is it good? Is the series good? I'm very mature for my age(14) and I'm not worried about the graphic nature of the book, I've read similar ones. I just was wondering if they are good and worse reading. Lisbeth Salander seems like a very intriguing character.

Answer
First off, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is one of my favorite books and I'm around your age, too.
Lisbeth Salander is my literary idol.
Book-wise, the book starts off a little bit boring...well, not quite boring, but rather statistical. You should know that it takes place in Sweden and that there's a lot of references to Sweden and similar Swedish names. After you I got around half-way through, though, I could not put it down! The first book is an extremely good mystery. My favorite of the three books in the series is the last one (The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest) because there's a lot of action.
So, yeah, I would recommend it to anyone who can get over all the sex, lesbians, sadists, rapists, and murderers.

Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, book?

Q. I watched the movie with Rooney Mara and I loved it. I thought it was amazing. I heard that it's based on a book and there are two books after it too? My question is are the books difficult to read, confusing or hard to follow. Or are they easy to follow and understand? And are they good? I'm a good reader and I usually read difficult books but I'm just wondering.

Answer
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was written by Stieg Larsson and translated to English. They are somewhat difficult to read in that I remember thinking to myself while reading the first book "Not much is happening, but I can't stop reading." So if you can appreciate good writing that does not necessarily have much in the way of action you'll enjoy it. The first half of the book in particular requires that.

The second book "The Girl Who Played with Fire" was a bit more action packed. Good as well, but I did not find it AS good as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The mystery in tGwtDT was just more engrossing.

The third book "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest" was disappointing. Compared to the first two books it was weak. Writing was still good, but the plot, unfortunately, was lacking.

Is "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" any good?

Q. My Mom bought me "The Girl Who Played With Fire" and I've skimmed parts of it just to get a feel and it looks interesting, but I won't actually start reading it unless I read the first one first, didn't know the order until yesterday.

I know it's been getting a lot of hype recently, does it live up to it? I'm 17, so I don't think I'm to young for the content,I know a bit about it.

Answer
I think "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" is excellent. It's one of my fave books.

I'm just now reading "The Girl Who Played With Fire"...

...and I wonder if perhaps the translation simply isn't as good as the first book.

"...Tattoo" was probably translated to English from the Swedish by someone different.

Why do I think that?

"...Fire" is more clumsy and includes many details not needed.
"...Tattoo" wasn't like that.

But I continue reading "...Fire" because, like the first book, it's becoming interesting now... Yet only on about page 350. [!]

PS. The probable reason for any sudden 'hype' is a recently released movie of "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo." Haven't seen it yet, but will.

How can you prevent fainting during a tattoo, when it is a physiological response?

laedeehk

I started my 2nd tattoo today. Not 10 min into it, I fainted. I have NEVER fainted in my life. I didn't faint during my first tattoo 10 years ago, but did get dizzy and felt ill. My tattoo girl was freaked out- and wanted me to go to the dr, which is scary because after looking on the internet, it is rather common. Dr said its a physiological response to pain that some people have- but how, then did I withstand the first? Any tattoo professionals have any real advice? I don't want answers like "don't look at the needle..." etc.. because it is not a fear nor the feeling of pain that causes it usually.
Also, she wanted to stop after that happened. If it happens again in the future, is it reasonable to keep going? She said if it happens again she won't finish it. Right now I have part of a dragon's tail on my back : (

Answer
I have 4, Ive never fainted. I just sweat alot when I'm getting tattooed, usually a cold sweat, not very enjoyable....Try numbing cream, I used that with my 3rd tattoo and all i felt was pressure, Also right before you get a tattoo try and feel "neutral" just relax and calm yourself, have a loved one with you. Good luck :)
