Answer
It's permanent. No one can ever take it away. That's a pro and a con. Even if you lose your job, spouse and home, you'll still have it. I am part of a crew that serves dinner to 160 homeless people once a month. I didn't make that example up out of my head.

On the other hand, if you make a mistake, or your life changes, you'll still have it; unless you go to a dermatologist for one to many long, painful, expensive sessions. The laser, I've read, feels like a rubber band snapping against your skin, over and over and over again. Figure $20,000 for a large one, and your skin will have an angry red scar where the tattoo used to be.

For a period of 10 years or so, whenever I saw a guy with a girl's name on his arm, in the YMCA locker room or at the checkout stand, or we were both pumping gas, I'd ask. 90% of them had done it when they were young and foolish, and broke up with the lady in question.

If you are asking a bunch of random strangers for a good idea, then you should not get one.

It should mean something.

If you finish first in the Olympics, Pan-Am games or NCAA finals in a swimming relay, 4 playful little dolphins around one ankle would be fitting. Lots of Olympians in London in 2012 got the 5 rings, I remember.

I knew a man, now gone, who jumped into Normandy one dark morning in 1944, then got to tour France and Germany at government expense. He had the 101st "Screaming Eagle" on his shoulder, about where the patch had been when he was in uniform.

Lots of submariners get the dolphins tattooed on their chest where the silver pin goes.

Mothers who lose children sometimes get the child's name tattooed over their heart.

Mine is a tribal one, which I got in Borneo a a Peace Corps Volunteer, from the Ibans, the tribe whose teen-agers were my students.

You can Google "Bad Tattoo" and see a thousands of images, including "Too Cool 4 Scool" and "Only God Will Juge Me", both spelled that way.

So -
Make sure it has meaning for you
Think about it for at least a year
SPELL CHECK, if you use words
Don't get the name of whoever you are in love with this semester
Make sure it's in a place you can cover it up easily. More on that below.

Below:

One of the favorites in the "Bad Tattoos" is a guy who had "P_ssy Eater" done on his upper lip, where "_" is a "u", that being a common slang term for performing oral sex on a woman. He usually comes up in the first 10, in Google or Bing. There must be hundreds of copies of the picture out there. Really, really, really bad. Imagine him applying for a job, or taking communion, or meeting a girlfriend's parents, or applying for a home loan.

I met a young woman who had a solid blue star on the back of the first joint of her middle finger, so that when she did the gesture known as "flipping the bird" it would stand out more. She had a lot of anger bottled up inside her. Again, really bad idea.

I can cover mine up by wearing a long-sleeve shirt. No fuss, no bother.

Do you find tattooed women attractive?

Personally, I absolutely love tattoos. I find it weird when people say they are disgusting, especially on women. So, what do you think?

Answer
Yep, if they are good tatts, and shes a girl who looks passable,

I mean jail house tatts on a moose don't make her alluring to me , but reasonably good looking girl with some bold, well done art looks great, (not a tiny butterfly/dolphin on foot just so it can be shown at parties that puts me right off that person), I mean real tattoos

but im a biker, and an ex squaddie, civilised people like my ex find it 'grotesque' because that is what they are brought up to believe and they pass to their kids.

One guys moose is another guys queen, each to their own, could you picture yourself being attracted to someone with an ideology so different to yours, it rarely works
