Why do so many Christians seem to shun the extreme?

I'm a Christian and so is my husband. We have piercings and tattoos. We also love going to metal shows. Something we have both experienced in the past is being shunned or turned away by other fellow Christians for being different. For example most Christians both men and women alike tend to be a little on the normal looking side. They wear preppy name brand clothes and listen to mostly contemporary music. I was a member of this Christian dating service before I met my husband. Most of the men didn't care for the fact that I liked hard music, had a few small tattoos and a couple of little piercings. I guess they were looking for a cookie cutter image of themselves. Another example is my husband's step mom told him that his type of music might scare a nice Christian girl away. I guess my point is, why do so many Christians seem to think that just because someone might look a little unique or listen and like things a little unique, they don't fit the typical mold of what a Christian is? I mean really, what does a Christian look like? And what's wrong with punk type hair, dressing a little funky and few body modifications?
And for those who say Christians shouldn't look that way. Many Christian rock and metal bands look extreme. What's the difference?

How do Americans view Japanese?

jenniferar

Japanese view americans like celebs... I was wondering how it was on the other side.
thank you everyone you were all very inciteful and informative. and Bryan i am responding by saying i agree about the whole korea surpassing japan in the entertainmant category. i had lived in south korea for two years and love their music. they are working very hard to be at the top.

Answer
Japan has historically always been the cool asian place. They made all the good video games and anime was everywhere when I was a teenager. I'm 20 now, but Japan seems to have lost its prominence. Korea is kinda beating it right now, culturally. Japanese gaming hasn't really gone anywhere new, while western games are the trend here now. The new generation of anime kids are into K-Pop now. They're not listening to Ayu and Namie like I was, but they're SONEs and love SuJu.

But we see Japanese people like other East Asians: diligent workers but leaning toward robotic. The average American doesn't really distinguish between different countries in Asia. We'd just think you're Chinese if you don't clarify. We don't understand certain Japanese things like Love Hotels and Hosts and the complicated toilets and why everything is so kawaii, therefore we think you are weird. We also kinda think you all look the same, because the population is so homogenous. America has varieties in race, while Japan is at least 95% Japanese at any given time. Also we tend to think ya'll lack social skills due to the discipline that you have, that our culture doesn't hold as high.

The language sounds a lot nicer to our ears than Korean or Chinese. However, its still way too hard. We love kanji though, even if we can't read it. A lot of Americans have tattoos with them. Nicki Minaj has one and I doubt she knows what it says. American women are also surprised at how Japanese women age well.

Overall, Japan is thought of as interesting and unique and an American will think its one of the better countries to be from. If you do read this, I'd like a response.
