Tattoo behind ear... do people notice?

I was thinking about getting a tatoo behind my right ear.
I was wondering if
a. it hurts more than normal (because there's no fat, just bone)
b. is there any risk to my ear, hearing, brain, etc.
c. i wanted it to be pretty inconspicuous, is it pretty obvious (I am a girl with long hair but I may have short someday)

I have a tattoo behind my ear and out of the 7 tattoos I have, it was the least painful. It was just a little odd to have the machine vibrating right there. There is no risk of damage etc.

If I wear my hair up, I get a few comments on it, but it is very colorful and about 2 inches big. But if I wear my hair down, you can't even see it.

Ok I was thinking about getting a tattoo behind my ear at some point. I was just wondering a few things.

Most pictures I see online of behind the ear tattoos are on girls. Are behind the ear tattoos not socially excepted on males or something?

What good ideas to people have of a nice tattoo? I was thinking about like a music note or something. Since I'm big music fan. I don't want anything un-classy. Just something cool and appropriate

Would it really effect colleges and job applications? Seems like that would be discrimination and would be illegal.
Well I am almost 17 right now, so I suppose I have a year to think about it anyway.

As for appearance, I don't look like a gang member heh. I have 1 earing on my left ear that is a simple small silver loop. I have average length hair. Not really short but not to long either. I probably look more preppy then gangster with the clothes I wear.

I have a guy friend that has one behond his ear. It just may effect you getting a job, depending on the job or even where you live. Maybe you should get the job/get into college first and then get the tattoo. Here are some pics of other guys with behind the ear tattoos. Oh and if your hair is long enough it could cover it!

I want to get a tattoo on the back of my neck, under my hairline or behind the ear. Something small and simple. I'm going away for college and want something that symbolizes my mom my sister and I. I was thinking something like a sun/moon and a star or a crescent moon and two stars. Any ideas? or pictures of some nice designs? I'm looking to keep discreet nothing too big.

Im 16 A while ago i saw this girl in my school who had 2 little black flying birds behind her ear. I loved it and couldnt stop thinking of it since, its the perfect location (easy to hide, but can show when want to) and its not tacky, too big or something i feel i would regret in the future. But now i feel like people would think i copied her (which i technically am) but i really love it. Does anyone else have any similar ideas? i hate stars or colours or anything like that but something small to put behind my ear. Thanks!

Well I have a black dove behind my ear, but you said you didn't want a bird. You could get a short word that means something to you, like live, laugh, love. The most important thing to consider when you get a tattoo is to get something you will love for the rest of your life, not what other people are going to think. My advice: get a bird if that is what your really want, if not, think about it for a while, tattoos are not meant to be rushed into... I mean it is permanent. And tattoos are how you represent who you are.

So, a little about me...
I'm sixteen, have a daughter named Serenity. I'm kinda peachish paleish, really short, long brown hair with blonde highlights, braces, glasses, hazel eyes. I like being pretty but also got my tomboy days>:) I like to get dirty, wrestle/play-fight, video games, English class:), making new friends, hanging out with guys, drawing, singing, animals, babies, and listening to music. I live in Ohio, but am from Texas. I don't listen to a certain kind of music, I listen to everything. From Machine Gun Kelly, to Linkin park, Nicki Minaj, Nickelback, Brad Paisley, etc. I listen to everything.. ! And I am outgoing and loud and beautiful. I have tons of friends and a good life. I've had a hard life too though.

Based on all of that, what do you think the BEST tattoo would be for me and where at ?
Ideally, I want a tattoo on my hand, wrist, behind my ear, on my shoulder, lower back ( tramp stamp ? it's called I think ), ankle, or up the side of my belly. Or on my foot. So what should I get!!!???
Also, how much does it hurt in each of the places I mentioned? And how much does a small tattoo cost? And how long does it take ?

This website isn't the best place for advice on this. A tattoo should be only about/for you, not what the internet and a bunch of strangers say is best. Personally, I think getting a tattoo at sixteen is a bad idea. I've met a lot of people who regret getting one just because they want one around that age.

If you are seriously thinking about it, do some research. Look into tattoo books and blogs. Doodle your heart out and find symbols and images that appeal to you. Once you've found something you think you like, draw it up or have an artistic friend draw it up for you. Then, put it on your bathroom mirror for at least a month. If you still like it after seeing it every day for an extended period of time, then maybe think about going for it. You can place that drawing on yourself and shift it around until you find a place it fits.

No offense to Sam, but you probably shouldn't get a Chinese or Japanese symbol UNLESS you actually speak the language. Too many times the symbol is incorrect.

Flowers are always good. music note. A heart. A small bird. A leaf. Your star sign.

What kinds of things do you do in your free time? Do you like to write, play games, workout, ect?

Try and pick something that you can relate to, not something that is just pretty or cute.
I knew a girl who got a pineapple behind her ear. It seemed weird, but when asked she had a whole story behind it. Her parents were from Hawaii, and they would eat pineapples all the time. So for her the pineapple reminded her of how much she loved her family. Never would have guessed that from a pineapple tattoo! :D

Other than that, tattoos behind the ear are very cute and easy to hide if necessary.
