My best friend is coming down from out of state soon. We want to get tattoos, nothing huge just small japanese characters on our shoulder. (I'm getting the one that means mother, it's beautiful) Anyway, my sister said I couldn't get a tattoo while I was breastfeeding. Is this true?

You can get a tattoo while breastfeeding, the ink itself will not enter the bloodstream and therefore not your milk, and even if it did its not generally harmful.

The reason that breastfeeding women are advised to avoid tattoos is that if you contract a serious infection (Hep, HIV) from the tattoo that could be passed through your milk to infect the baby.

You, and only you, can weigh the risks of getting an infection against your desire for a tattoo. Whether you are breastfeeding or not you would want to minimize the chances of contracting a serious disease from a tattoo -and as long as the place is following safety guidelines it should be very safe.

I donât have tattooed eyebrows, but three small hoop rings on one side. I like them and it doesnât look too bad. I didnât find out until after I had done my own peircings that there is a nerve up there that if hit, can paralyze the whole side of your face, hmmmm. Guess I got lucky there.
We worked at a mill in an isolated location in British Columbia and there was a young couple that got on there for a while too. They had spent time in Africa and she had tribal tattoos on her face. She was and is a very pretty young woman, but I thought then and still do that they looked rather cool.
These days a lot of people are getting tattoos of Japanese symbols, that depending on who sees them may result in some not so good misunderstandings. Be aware of what you are getting and know some of the culture behind it before you get the tattoo. Itâs easy enough to get a cover up, but on the face, I donât think so. I am considering one on the face, but I have considered the same tattoo a few years now, so it is a big decision for me. I already have six tattoos, but none on my face (yet). So, in light of the above;
It does not ruin a beautiful face when done right Be prepared to live with it the rest of your life It definitely does add character to a personâs face, but not all peopleâs faces. Be careful of what symbols etc. that you do get as sometimes they can have different meanings; depending on who sees them.

Planning a trip to Japan anything I should know?

I am planning a trip to Japan from the US and was wondering if there is anything I should know as far as what to do and what not to do? What about cell phones would US Cellular work there?

Woah there! I'm not sure if I agree with all of the comments in the 1st answer above (each to their own though..lol).

It's great you've chosen to come to Japan. It really is a fantastic country and its people are incredibly kind, generous and gracious hosts. To a foreign mindset, Japan's social customs and traditions can often seem alien to Westerners. Don't worry! Do you best not to prejudge or mock the way things are here. Some countries just do things a little differently to the West. Here's a few tips I found useful before I came out, and some I've learnt while I have been here:-


When sightseeing...
- don't blow your nose in public, for some reason this is considered VERY rude...if you really have to, do it in a toilet cubicle - preferably where nobody can hear or see you
- don't eat, drink or smoke while walking
- don't point within Buddhist temples, it's considered rude, there will be signs in English saying where you can and can't take photographs too
- some areas of Japan are quite conservative when it comes to women's clothing. If you're going to somewhere outside a big city - especially in the summer - don't expose your midriff or cleavage...some people also find tattoos offensive [see 'onsen' below]. It depends where you go though!

When eating...
- the hot towel given to you a the beginning of the meal is for your hands, not your face
- don't stick your chopsticks in your rice (Japanese do this to honour the dead)
- don't pass food from person to person with chopsticks
- don't lick the ends of your chopsticks
- eating all of your meal is fine (!)
- believe it or not...DON'T TIP WAITING STAFF.(or taxi drivers, or anyone for that matter)..it is not the custom in Japan and some even think it's rude!

When staying at a Ryokan/more traditional hostel or someones house...

- be aware of where to take your shoes off, a lot of traditional Japanese accommodation does not allow outdoor shoes to be worn indoors (bring some slippers!)
- don't wear your house slippers when you go to the WC, change into the toilet slippers provided (change them back when you finish!!!)

Generally...

- the Japanese bowing custom is very complicated. For foreigners, a gentle bow or a simple nod of the head and a little smile works wonders
- if you are offered a gift, receive it with 2 hands, if you are giving gift, give with 2 hands
- be careful about calling people by their given names...it's usually simple to ask them what they would like you to call them! Lots of people will say their name followed by '-san' is ok
- if you are going to a traditional Japanese hot spring (or 'onsen') be prepared to be turned away if you have tattoos...it varies widely from place to place but many onsen do not permit ANY, no-matter how small and insignificant you may think your ink is
- public displays of affection aren't the norm here, nor is being overly 'huggy' - many Japanese will shake hands to be polite but will often be taken aback if you try to hug them. This does not mean that Japanese people are cold - they are just not used to doing it!

Your phone will not work over here. You can hire them in most cities. Tourist information or whoever is providing your accommodation should be able to give you more information about this.


A lot of the social 'rules' in Japan are the same as anywhere else in the world, so it doesn't hurt to apply a bit of common sense to every situation: be polite, considerate and friendly to people and respectful of customs. Even if you do make a social faux-pas, people will usually understand because you are a foreigner! Japanese put a high value on people trying their best, so my advice is to remember a few of the no-nos but stay relaxed and friendly..you will meet a LOT of wonderful people here.

I hope you have a fantastic time wherever you chose to go in Japan. I can't tell you how awesome this country is.

How do I change the layout on my myspace page? I finally cracked and got a myspace page, now I just need it to look good.
ebest2000, not all the tattoo artists are greasy biker guys. LOL. It's just a stereotype. I have two main artists. One is a women, and awesome. But for my next tattoo, her style wouldn't have been quite right, I was looking for a harder look for the dragon that will go on my hip and my boyfriend directed me to his tattoo artist who is a really cool guy (married) just runnin his own business and doin his own thing.

Okay first of all I never used to like tattoo's on girls, but I have come to appreciate them. The most important thing is that the tattoo should be like a beauty mark - noticeable, dainty, placed somewhere that will be complimented by lots of bare skin. Numerous tattoos clothes together where blank skin is hard to see gets over kill.

My bigest problem however with tattoos in general is people who get tribal symbols, words in different languages or text. It is okay to get a Japanese word or symbol for example if you are Japanese, but I mostly see people with these tribal markings and symbols that needed a translater to get it put there. How is that part of you if you are caucasian and you have egyptain letters on you. SO LAME!

Guys/Girls- what do you think of this-pic included?

I really like the look of it-im thin too, and 18 years old, i would probably change the flowers colors to a pinkish red more but what are your opinions guys/girls?

Its pretty and if you like it you should get it, ur the one that has to see it everyday. But if it were me i wouldn't get it. its kinda big and if u get pregnant itl get all messed up cuz ur skin gets stretched out but its still up to you. and i don't think its feminine at all but maybe if u get a small one like this itl be cute :)
