I am 19 and want to get a tattoo soon but can't figure out what i want...i know i want a simple design like a tribal on my arm by the bicep...don't want anything too big or too small just perfect...anybody have an idea of a good tattoo design i could get...

i' m not doing this for girls or anything like that i just want to do it because i want one and like it...you guys are right tribal is old school now , i might get the symbol of my religion on my shoulder and a saying next to it....keep the ideas going....
and i don't really want colored because when i grow old it fades and just too much i want a simple black one...still debating if i should get one or not ..

tattoo artists are actually refusing to do tribal anymore....it's THAT overdone

but honestly, it's your body........so get whatever you want
although from everything you've said, I can be pretty confident that you're not anywhere near ready for a tattoo

if you're getting a tattoo because you just wanna look cute a trendy and sexy for guys, DONT BOTHER. im so sick of girls getting their hips and shit tattooed with flowers or stars or hearts because its cute and they think it'll get them laid.

but if you're serious and want it for YOU and not to look trendy or whatever, i think ribs are awesome. i have my ribs done. its easy to hide, but u can show it off at the beach. huge space where you can get something small, or something huge. won't stretch if you have kids, like your tummy or low abdomen or hips might.

but if you're serious and want it for YOU and not to look trendy or whatever, i think ribs are awesome. i have my ribs done. its easy to hide, but u can show it off at the beach. huge space where you can get something small, or something huge. won't stretch if you have kids, like your tummy or low abdomen or hips might.

i have been thinking about getting a tattoo on my shoulder for a while now, but i have been told they look trashy. if i do get one it will be small and intimate, not big and meaningless.

okay, any guy who will reject you because of a tattoo isn't worth your time. and if you're getting a tattoo based on opinions of guys on Y!A? you shouldn't bother...

i'll start off by saying its not the tattoo that is trashy, but the person. if you're a trashy girl, tattoos won't make you look any better. and if you're a sexy girl, tattoos won't really effect that either. it's not like girls are trashy just because they have tattoos. i don't know where you live, but where i'm from, many people have tattoos, and a lot of them are women. it's not like every girl who has a tattoo is a slut or trashy or anything.

i have two tattoos, both of which are about medium sized. my boyfriend thinks they're sexy and i've only heard compliments from guys about them. not one guy has ever told me my tattoos are a turn-off. if you can wear them confidently and you're a sexy girl, go for it. i can still be a classy girl and have tattoos. i have my ribs and my feet covered, and they're both beautiful pieces.

just because a tattoo is big doesn't make it meaningless. i think the trashiest thing ANYONE can do with tattoos is get like, stupid trendy stuff like hearts or stars (for girls) or tribal or dragons (for guys). if you get something unique and wear it well, it will look just fine.

How should I tell if the tattoo shop and artist is good enough?

I would like to get a tattoo for my birthday. It will be my first one. Is there anything I should look out for as far as a decent shop? Also..because I am a girl..I feel there are only few places tattoos would look nice if you are a girl and have a tattoo where is yours? I'd like some ideas of where to put a tattoo.

Very simple. Any reputable tattoo shops will have their artists portfolios out so that you can look at them. If they don't then they are probably not professional and you should avoid them. Also, look for cleanliness. A good shop is a clean shop. Also a good shop will not have you pay until the tattoo is finished. They will make sure that you have enough money, but not ask you to pay until the work is done. A good artist will always open the needles in front of you, assemble the tattoo gun in front of you, and wear gloves at all times!!. A good artist also is not afraid to tell you that a flash design looks better on paper than it does on skin. A good artist is also not afraid to talk you out of getting a design that you may regret later or be unsure about getting in the first place. The biggest thing to remember is that you pay for what you get. That goes for everything in life, tattoos are no different. So shop around and look at prices. If the price seems too cheap to believe, then you should probably not believe in the quality of it. REMEMBER, TATTOOS ARE FOREVER! As far as ideas and locations go, that's up to you and the artist. A tattoo should mean something, not be just a trendy thing, or something that a million other people have. The best advice I can give you in that area is get something kinda small (not a whole back piece or something large like that) for your first tattoo. Make sure you are able to handle the pain. Also maybe get it somewhere that it can be hidden in case you don't ever plan on getting any more. If you like getting tattoos as much as I did then you wont mind people seeing other ones you may get in the future. I made the concious decision to get my arms sleeved down. I thought about future jobs I might get and having to wear long sleeve shits forever. I have seen one with a swear word "f...", "tramp", "heavy flow" meaning diarrhea. I don't know how much more weird can this gets? Hopefully, people will get ink that make sense. Beckham have a smart chinese tattoo.

I have not seen these, but I heard about them on the radio- apparently a Chinese tattoo artist got fed up with dumb Americans getting stuff they couldn't read put on their bodies just to be trendy, so he started to put characters different from the meanings he gave on people- his victims were as follows:
A girl who wanted to have "beautiful princess" on her midriff (near her bellybutton), he wrote "insert General Tso's Chicken here"
A college student who wanted something like "strength" or "warrior" (can't remember) on his chest instead got "Small penis"
There were a couple others I can't remember.

I also heard about someone getting something like "idiot", instead of whatever it was that they wanted, and another who was given "I can't read Chinese".
